Chapter 216: Final Farewell

The day and night passed by so quickly and before knew it, it was already morning. She didn’t sleep the whole night and just carried Rocco in her arms while sitting in the rocking chair and staring at his sleeping angelic face.

It has been only a month since she gave birth to him but now they have to part ways... It was too soon for a mother like her. She couldn’t count how many times her tears streamed down her face while cradling her son.

As much as she wanted to bring him along with her, she couldn’t. She wouldn’t dare risk the life of her son and she could only promise her to return as soon as possible so they could be together again.

[It’s time...] Ciel said from behind after seeing the sky starting to grow bright.

"I know... I badly wish I could conjure portals like Elandir, so I can see him every day," Elsa said as she wiped her tears.

[Then the more you near to hurry in defeating that bitch so we could go back to Rocco,] Ciel uttered.

"You’re right..."

Elsa was placing Rocco in her crib when Hera entered her room. "Are you ready?"

"Even if I am not ready, I still have to go, Mom..." Elsa answered with a somber face.

"I promise to take good care of him, honey," Hera said, wrapping her arm around Elsa’s shoulder as they both watched Rocco sleep.

"I know you will. Right now I wish we were in Novus back in our house in Santa Fe so I could video call you and see Rocco grow up while I am away," Elsa sighed and tried her best to hold back her tears.

"Elsa, you are more powerful than you know. Keep that in mind," Hera declared before tucking Rocco in the blanket.

"Is it because of my father? I am about to go to war and until now you still refuse to give me more information bout him. I might have some powers that I got from him. I saw his hands glow, he can conjure a portal like Elandir and like other divine mages, so is he a divine mage like us? A simple yes or no answer will do, Mom," Elsa pleaded but Hera didn’t even spare her a glance.

"And my answer will still be the same... You will know in time. Be patient. Whatever power you got from him will be revealed at the right time. When it does, I won’t even have to answer your question because you will instantly know," Hera replied after picking up her trunk, signaling her that it was time for her to walk out of the room and go.

Elsa pouted her lips and kissed Rocco one last time before heading out of the room with Hera and Ciel.

Both King Allister and Mistress Valeria were already outside the castle together with Elandir and the King and Queen of Qiryn when Elsa and Hera arrived there. They greeted her with a slight smile knowing how she was feeling about leaving Rocco behind.

"Take care of my daughter, Elandir," Hera told Elandir as they exchanged goodbyes.

"Hera, you know very well that your daughter doesn’t need taking care of. But I will anyway since you are my friend."

The two smirked at each other before Hera raised her arms to hug Elandir and whispered, "I’ll take care of Marina for you as well. She will be seeing you on the first bridge."

Elandir nodded and thanked Hera before turning to his father and mother.

"Father, Mother, please take care of your health while I am gone. I promise to return in one piece," he said.

King Tyrion embraced him and said, "I am not worried. I know you are more cunning than those witches and demons. Prove to our people and the council how strong your power is and I promise to step down from the throne upon your return."

After all the goodbyes and promises to each other, the group of four climb in the carriage and set their journey to the port nearest An’owyn Castle. A few minutes into the journey, Elandir saw the bridge that Hera told her about and called for the coachman’s attention.

"Please stop by the bridge. I just need to talk to someone."

The coachman nodded and did as ordered. Elandir quickly climbed down the carriage and looked for Marina.

"Over here," Marian called out.

Elandir turned around and saw Marina in the water. She flapped her tail, splashing water on him, and laughed.

"I was surprised when Hera said you’ll be here. I thought you would accompany us until the boundary?" Elandir asked the mermaid.

"Nah, I think this would be better since I will be sad if I watch your ship fade away from the horizon while I stay in the ocean alone. Besides, Princess Hera will be needing help with Rocco. She will go back to her cabin after breakfast so I will wait for her there," Marina explained.

"Okay, I understand. Now I wish that I am a werewolf so we can have a mate bond and we can talk to each other anytime. So I can use my portal and go to you, whenever you miss me," Elandir quipped.

"That’s ok, no need to portal back here until you succeed. Focus on your goal and I will wait for you patiently. You need to conserve your energy for the coming battle. I will pray to the goddess of the moon to take care of you," Marina uttered.

Elandir took the ring that he used to propose to Marina and handed it to her. "Keep this for me. When I come back, I will be King and I will immediately fulfill my promises to you. Until then, keep this. I don’t want to lose it in the battle."

Marina nodded and pulled Elandir for a kiss. "Be safe, love."

Elandir found a simple kiss insufficient; instead, he tenderly took hold of Marina, sealing their lips in a lingering embrace. Their tongues danced in a delicate entwining, and their arms embraced each other passionately as they bid their final farewell before Elandir headed back to the carriage.
