My Harem of Dangerous and Crazy Women as a Reincarnated Necromancer-Chapter 68: Wakey Wakey
Mark was on the verge of falling asleep.
The accumulated exhaustion of the entire day weighed on every part of his body, and the softness of Rose’s chest under his head was doing absolutely nothing to help keep him awake.
In fact, it was quite the opposite.
’Just... five minutes...’ Mark thought as his eyes closed.
But then he heard a faint gasp, so faint that Mark almost didn’t catch it the first time.
’Rose...?’ Mark thought without opening his eyes, assuming the sound had come from the vampire beneath him.
Mark didn’t give it much thought and let his eyes stay closed.
But then Rose spoke.
"Master," Rose said in a low voice. "You should sit up for a moment."
While Rose’s tone wasn’t alarmed or urgent, there was something in her voice that told Mark it wasn’t a suggestion.
Mark, who was incredibly comfortable with his head buried between Rose’s soft tits, couldn’t help but groan internally.
’Seriously?... Right now?’ Mark thought with mild annoyance.
But despite his complaint, he decided to listen and slowly lifted his head with all the laziness in the world, and looked at Rose.
To his surprise, Rose wasn’t looking at him. The vampire had her head turned to one side, eyes fixed on something outside Mark’s field of vision.
’What is she looking at?’ Mark thought curiously as he followed the direction of her gaze.
And right then he heard it again.
Another gasp.
This time Mark heard it clearly and could tell the sound wasn’t coming from Rose, but from the same direction Rose was looking.
Mark turned his head toward the source of the sound and realized it was coming from where Alice was lying.
The nun, who had been completely still since they arrived at the clearing, was stirring slightly on the grass.
’She’s finally waking up?’ Mark thought as he quickly got to his feet.
He didn’t think about the fact that he was naked, or that his legs were numb. He only thought about getting to Alice — he covered the distance in a few steps and knelt beside her.
Alice was moving as if she were having a nightmare.
Her body twisted irregularly on the grass.
Her hands opened and closed, grabbing at the grass beneath her, and her face was twisted in an expression that looked like pain, while small gasps escaped her lips between each uneven breath.
"Alice," Mark said in a clear voice. "Wake up."
But there was no response — Alice kept writhing with her eyes closed.
Mark steadied her gently with his hands until he noticed that his touch had begun to slow her movements.
And then, slowly, her eyes began to open, revealing pupils that were completely unfocused.
Until her eyes found Mark and Alice stared at him fixedly for a couple of seconds.
"Where... am..."
Alice’s voice came out hoarse and broken, as if her throat hadn’t been used in days.
"Where... are we?"
"We’re safe," Mark replied, looking at her directly. "We managed to escape."
"And the demoness...?" Alice asked with difficulty.
"Thanks to the hit you landed on her, we managed to buy enough time to get out of there," Mark said. "Rose managed to activate the teleportation spell and got all of us out. We don’t know exactly where we are, but we’re far from that dungeon."
Alice closed her eyes for a few seconds.
Mark didn’t know if she was processing the information or if she simply couldn’t keep her eyes open — though given her condition, it was probably both.
When Alice opened her eyes again she did something Mark expected, but that still made him react.
Alice tried to sit up, pressing both hands against the ground and pushing her body upward, but her arms trembled from the very first moment and she barely managed to lift her torso a few centimeters before her strength gave out completely.
"Wait, don’t try to get up."
Mark extended a hand and gently pressed Alice’s shoulder back down, stopping her.
"It’s best if you stay lying down," Mark said in a firm tone. "Your body is too damaged... if you try to move now you’ll only make things worse."
Alice looked at him with an expression that made clear she didn’t like the idea of staying flat on her back, but her own body was proving Mark right, she didn’t even have the strength to sit up.
"Listen to the Master," Rose said, arriving from behind.
Hearing her, Mark turned his head slightly and saw the vampire walking toward where they were. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Rose stopped beside Mark and looked down at Alice.
"It would be best if you don’t push yourself for now," Rose said calmly. "While the Master channels more of his mana into you so you can recover a little more."
Alice, who until that moment had had her full attention on Mark, turned her head toward Rose and looked at her for a couple of seconds.
"Why don’t you give me mana yourself?" Alice asked in a weak but direct voice. "From what I can tell, you’re a powerful mage... so you must have more mana reserves than my lord."
"That wouldn’t work," Rose replied without changing expression. "We both count as undead... so even if I tried to give you mana, your body would reject it."
Alice said nothing and Rose continued.
"The mana of an undead is not compatible with another undead. You need the mana of a living being for your body to accept it and be able to use it to recover."
Alice processed that information in silence for a moment, then nodded slightly.
"Any other questions?" Rose asked, as if she were a teacher.
Alice stayed quiet, then her eyes moved from Rose to Mark and she looked him up and down.
Then she did exactly the same with Rose, who was standing beside Mark.
"Just one," Alice said. "Why are you both naked?"
Mark looked down and confirmed what he already knew but had completely forgotten the moment he heard Alice, then turned to look at Rose.
Rose looked back at him and shrugged.
"It’s a long story..." Mark replied as a small laugh escaped his lips.
