Chapter 152: Alchemy Room

When the two arrived in front of the alchemy room once belonging to the former archmage, Valeria took out a pocket knife and handed it to Elsa. "Since it is your first time coming here, you have to prove that you are from our bloodline. You have to smear your blood on the door for it to allow you to enter," she explained.

Accepting the knife, Elsa nicked her thumb and applied a small amount of blood to the door. A faint glow emitted from the door, signaling its unlocking, allowing them access. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Contrary to Elsa’s expectations of a creepy, old, and musty room, she was pleasantly surprised to find a modern space that was different from the castle’s overall design. Comparing it to the architectural style of Novus, it resembled a mid-century library.

And when her grandmother said that it was a mini library, she must have not known what is the meaning of mini. The place was huge. The back and right side of the room were filled with books neatly arranged in floor-to-ceiling bookcases. While the left and middle part was filled with tools, equipment, and ingredients that her great-grandmother used.

"Why don’t you take your mother’s position in being the kingdom’s archmage? I heard it was been vacant since she died," Elsa questioned while checking the books in the bookcases.

"She didn’t teach me the knowledge that I need to learn for me to become an archmage. And even though technically I am the next one in line, I declined it, it would be unfair to the people if I could not help them. Plus, your grandpa is against it, but he was just not opposing it publicly. He is quite possessive," Valeria said.

"I can definitely see that..." Elsa said in a sarcastic tone.

"He just doesn’t want me to get hurt both physically and emotionally. Now let’s get to work."

Both women started searching and reading books about anything that could be related to banned plants, werewolves, poisons, and exterminated plants.

Midnight had already come and gone, finding Elsa asleep on the sofa with a book in hand. Valeria, wearing a gentle smile, covered her granddaughter with a blanket, gazing at her peacefully slumbering face before returning to her research.

Valeria found some books that could help them but was not sure if that was the one Elsa was looking for. She staked up all the books on the table that she thought were useful and put bookmarks and notes in each of them before leaving the room to check on Chris.

She had ordered everyone not to contact Elsa unless something serious happened to Chris and to call for her instead if it was something they could manage. As expected, Constance called her because Chris had woken up.

"What is happening to the prince?" Valeria asked.

"Mistress, it seems like Prince Christopher is hallucinating about something that had happened in his childhood. It’s like he is dreaming but with open eyes, if that makes sense," Rylie said.

Valeria touched Chris’ forehead and neck, "His temperature is normal, so fever is not the cause of that... Keep monitoring him. Let me know if something changes again. I will go back to Elsa, she might wake up soon."

Constance quickly stopped her when she was about to go out of the room. "Mistress, you should sleep. You haven’t slept all night. I will take your place in helping the princess."

"Thank you but it would be helpful if you could just bring coffee and breakfast for us. I didn’t get to know the man that my daughter loved and was not able to help him and Elsa when they needed help. I will not make that same mistake again. I will help my granddaughter save the man that she loves."

Valeria left the room and headed back to the alchemy room but on her way, she met Elsa who was about to go to Chris as well.

"I just went to your room to check on your husband, he is fine, with no fever or other symptoms that we should worry about. He seems like he was just dreaming though," Valeria informed her.

"Dreaming? Like how?" Elsa asked.

They heard footsteps running towards them, "Princess! Mistress! Hurry the prince is becoming delirious!" Constance said.

Elsa and Valeria quickly followed Constance back to where Chris was, "What do you mean he is becoming delirious? What happened and what is he doing?"

"He first vomited, and Lexi said to call you since his heartbeat suddenly went faster. But before I got out of the room he was screaming, hallucinating, and uttering words that make no sense," Constance narrated.

"Screaming... Hallucinating... Delirious... No fever... Vomiting... " Elsa repeated the words memorizing them. The two women looked at her wondering what was she doing.

"Neia! Neia! Let me go! My mother and sister need me! Mother! Neiaaa!!!"

They heard Chris from the hallway screaming his lungs out.

When Elsa entered the room, the first thing that she checked was his eyes, "His pupils are dilated." She then touched his forehead, neck, and back. "I thought you said he doesn’t have a fever? He is burning!"

"What should we do? Magic is not working on him!" Rylie said in a panic.

"Cool his body down, give him this," Elsa then handed the glass container she took from the alchemy room. "I made this using the herbs I found, it should help his fever, and make him sweat. I want you to monitor if he will sweat or not. That will confirm my suspicion."

Elsa then turns to Valeria, "Grandma, I need to go back to the alchemy room. I think I found the answer, I need to get a book there. Can I take it out?"

Valeria nodded, "Yes, dear. Take everything that you need." Valeria moved closer to Elsa, slipped a paper into her hand, and whispered, "There is a secret room at the very end, chant what’s written on the paper to the bookcase that has a row of brown books and it will open. Inside are rare herbs that can be used for healing and antidotes. But remember, you have to use the correct mixture for it to work on a werewolf."

"Thank you," Elsa hugged Valeria before asking Laureen to shift and take her so they could reach the alchemy room faster.
