Chapter 78: A Royal Summon - II

As the queen of a huge and powerful country, Queen Emalia did not seem scared of what she had said which only confirmed my underlying thoughts.

"The prince talked to you." I stated to which she nodded not talking her eyes off of me. "And you agree with it?" I asked. Her son was a prince and at times they were not aware of what the implication of certain acts could be. She had to come in and think of a different approach.

"I did." She answered and shifted slightly. "We are not going through . . . ideal circumstances as a family and Lysar might have to make huge sacrifices because of it, which is why, if he wishes to establish relationships with you, I would like to make an unofficial proposal to you, amongst us."

"Why amongst us?" I asked her first, caring making out the meaning of her words in the meantime.

"Because I want to know where you stand. If you have, even a little bit, of feelings for my son then I would like to take it all forward, if not, then I suppose the next course of direction would selected by the king." She answered as if prepared for it all.

I thought about what she said or rather told me because she did not hint at the dying firstborn, rather told me that the circumstances were not ideal. She wanted to know my feelings about it but she was not ready to let it go entirely because of which, even if I refused, she would have her husband precede further with it.

She wanted it know about my feelings ad also, would continue with what this family wanted anyway. How was this fair? 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

I sighed, proceeding with a truthful answer was better. "No, your highness, I do not have any feelings for the prince."

Her eyebrows shot up immediately at that. "Not even his face you like? He got that from me." She pointed out, biting back a smile.

I laughed lightly at that and she did too. "He does have a pretty face, but I do not have any feelings or affections towards him."

She nodded and glanced up for a moment before humming and coming back to the conversation at hand. "Do you know why that is?" she murmured softly, like she wanted to guide me through this and with her motherly expression, I let myself be enchanted. "It is because you put duty forward. No one can resist some attraction felt by an opposite gender, you have completely let go of yourself to your country."

"I do love someone." I blurted out before it could think and my eyes widened for a quick second as did the queen’s. She was not expecting that and nor was I. This was not good, I had barely managed to get Tristan out today and here I was, again telling a royal about him.

But I was slightly offended by what she had said.

"What?" her sharp voice and eyes reached my ears, she did not like what I had told her. "You?" she pointed finger at me as if all was a joke and that made me a little self-conscious. What was that supposed to mean? Could I not love?

"Yes, I do," I said more firmly, "I can love as well."

"Yes, well, I never denied that." she gathered herself back as she said so quickly, "Just quiet surprised by it. Do tell me who have you fallen for." She made a go-ahead notion as she asked me about it.

By her expressions I could tell that she was highly amused by the conversation and by my slip up. Frankly speaking I could tell that she did not believe me in the first place and even if there was a slight probability that I had fallen in love prior, she just like her son would like to use that against me.

I shook my head as I answered her question denying what I had just told her. "It does not matter who I have fallen for, even slight feelings for. What matters is that I have my marriage coming by the new year’s spring and I have to dedicated myself to another country."

Her eyes narrowed slightly as she knew that I had managed to slip by her interrogative question. "Well, sad it is that you cannot have feelings for the one you love." She sighed sadly. "However there are families that do not use each other as puppets." She spat out. "You might want to consider that as an option."

I had really grown tired of this conversation and I would not mind to cut it short but if I did that disrespectfully I would only manage to anger her and if I angered her, I would anger the king as a princess who disrespected his queen.

"Your highness," I bit my lip slightly appearing to be nervous in front of her, "I do not know what to do in the situation simply because I do not have the power to take the decision. My father is the king of the country and he has the power to take this decision along with my sister who is, by birth, the next Queen of the country." I told her the facts I had.

"If there are people that can choose to withdraw from the agreement placed years ago for me and Prince Terrence; they are my father and my sister."

"Not you?" She teased and I tightened my smile. "Why do you not have that power Genevieve?"

What game was this petty Queen playing at? She knew very well that I was the second born princess who was already considered the future queen of another Kingdom, so I was not given much importance in my own court. I was a guest already in my kingdom. So it only came naturally that a guest did not have much of an opinion or a ruling hand in the matters of the house.

"No, your highness." I decided to bite her back this time. "However I believe that as the Queen of Astria I would have more power in the house matters."

"Ah," she said loudly and then looked ats with a dark look in her eyes. It was the same look that her son had when he had something that would give him the upper hand.

"I am aware of a battle between princes Estelle the firstborn of the king and queen and Prince Augustus; the bastard born child," she leaned foward as if whispering a secret to my ears and I knew what it was.

"What if I were to assure you that every minister and higher officials working under the king would vote for princess Estelle to become the next crowned Queen?"
