The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 79: A Royal Summon - III
What if I were to assure you that every minister and higher officials working under the king would vote for princess Estelle to become the next crowned Queen?" I was amazed by the fact that the queen of the Lethoris was free enough to think about the gossip and troubles going on in neighbouring Kingdom.
The expression which was slightly smug on her face had told me that she knew she had hit enough and it was exactly where she wanted corner me.
By my silence she was sure that she had won this part of the conversation because I would surely have a difficult time getting out of it.
I gulped before speaking. "Higher officials and ministers do not hold that much power as the king does. How would you move him?"
Arguing with her would get me no where on the current topic because she was the queen and she was more experienced in political topics than I was. So it was obvious that whatever I would say she would still manage to win the argument which is why I had changed my course of direction.
Instead of going forward and denying her again which would be a waste as she had presented me with a good possible offer of help for taking Estelle to the throne and providing better opportunity for my country to survive.
She leaned back comfortably as if pleased with the question I asked. "Well, to begin it is easy to pursue a man who is drowning already. Your father at this moment would take any better offer given to him especially when you tell the benefits to him."
I titled my head curiously. "So you would be telling about the benefits and hiding all the liabilities of the proposal you make to him for my hand in marriage?"
She smiled, again please that I had managed to catch on to her words. "Once again, a drowning man will only look at the benefits. There .any liability for him would be to make a decision against what his ministers would truly want but he would take care of that too. " She clapped her hands twice. "He would make a decision for rich retirement after giving up the throne to his only daughter and not a bastard child. Your father, for sure, would not even care about the current mistress he has."
"She is the queen of Melenmore." I spat without holding back. Whenever someone mentioned her regardless of the fact that she was just mistress or a concubine made Queen it would always pinch my heart or rather squeeze it painfully.
A maid came and presented us with glasses filled with cold lemoned water. It was refreshing and I was pleased by the fact that the queen chose not to present me alcohol.
After all, she was still merely a concubine given her status because of the looks she had and not the witt she was to possess and now she was the queen of The country.
She was someone who had replaced my mother; the late queen Cynthia.
"Yes," even her eyes flashed with unknown anger at my words. "We queens of different countries do not interfere in politics but we are aware, very much, of what is happening. The only thing we hate about all of this was not your father taking another wife but him making a mistress the queen of a great country, now in ruins."
I refrained from commenting on it because I knew if I did then I would end up giving all of my secrets to the queen who was using them against me.
The conversation had been dragged long enough and I just wanted to rest my eyes for as long as I was allowed.
"Your highness I think you have established the fact that I do not have any feelings for your son and even if you decide to make a proposal for my hand in marriage officially, you know that I have no power in accepting or rejecting it."
She narrowed her eyes slightly. "I guess, someone is bored." She commented and I smiled politely at that. "I have presented you with the trump card to how you can make sure that your sister is the queen of Melenmore, without a battle inside the court which your country cannot afford. If I make an official offer and your father accepts I want no resistance from your side."
That was a command.
Had she been the queen of my country I would have readily accepted the order because I knew what were the consequences of rejecting a royal command if one did not belong to the royal family itself. But I belonged to an equally powerful family of a different country which is why I have the right to reject what her words commanded at me.
I stood up, "Your highness, I cannot assure you of that because I cannot even assure you that my father would agree for the marriage itself. It has been there for years and just because the prince has seen me once, it would not be enough to convince him. Nevertheless, the decision lies in his hands." I bowed slightly, "If you would excuse me, your highness." I took a step back before she said her next words making me halt once again. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Darling Genevieve, you never asked me if I knew why you were here." She said in a cool voice, not giving much away.
I turned around. "What is it that you know?" I whispered to her. The Prince could have told her anything including his first assumption of me following him here because of his so-called beauty.
She smiled and stood up, now looking like a regal queen, who slightly intimidated me. "I am aware of the truth to why you are here. Prince Lysar had to tell me that first before I proceeded with this conversation with you. A princess, especially of another country, and someone who my son likes will not be involved in any kind of investigation regarding the creatures of the night." Her eyes flashed in anger, which was possible because the creatures of the night and almost killed her son. "This is a royal commands issued by the queen. You, out of all, will not be involved in best investigation any more!"
