The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 288: The wooden cottage - I
Sir Walter must have been informed by his sons what had conspired with the prince because he had a healer ready by the time we reached the small cottage that was a short distance from the outskirts of the capital.
In the dead of the night, after what I had done, my heart kept on beating in the fear that we would be jumped by someone, or was attacked by a vampire.
The prince’s body had to be held down by me and Dorothy. He kept on moving side-by-side as the carriage carried on.
In the dim light of the moon, I could see how his body had been beaten and breast. Blood was Sticking to his skin meaning he had obviously been beaten for a long time and had been left and cared for.
By the time we reached the small cottage slightly into the words, the wind had grown chilly as compared to before. We were well into the night by now.
Sawyer and his brother picked up the prints very carefully before carrying him inside the cottage where Dorothy and I followed him. From the far the cottage seemed much smaller than it was in reality.
It was what I would call an average house, for someone who was financially comfortable.
Sir Walter stepped out of the house and opened the door wide enough for his children to go in with the prince. I stopped at the entrance with him.
"Was the journey you made safe?" He asked, "The servants made sure to distribute the glass of wine to everyone as the custom suggests, so I hope there was no one awake when you left."
"No," I answered, "no vampire was awake, at least. As for the human gods, I think we escape them without letting anyone else know."
He nodded before extending his hand into the direction of the door, "please, come in."
Dorothy and I entered the house first before Sir Walter followed and closed the door behind him.
"It is very late, which is why I will be telling you where your rooms are. We can talk in the morning. Is that alright with you?"
I nodded and from the corner of my eye I saw Dorothy do the same.
The layout of the wooden cottage was very simple. After entering the door, One stepped into the sitting room after which, on the right side was a kitchen with the entrance of a door and a window. On the other side of the living room, there were two small hallways where I was sure the rooms were.
Sir Walter led us to the right side of the whole way, they had three doors there and he took us to the second one.
"My sons are staying on the left side of the house. My wife and I occupy the first room, the prince will be in the room on your left and this one will belong to the of you."
"Thank you." I said as gratefully as I could. He did not enter the room, giving us a nod from the entrance before closing the door behind him. Dorothy went further into the room and lit the lamp or before looking at the beds.
"Twin beds," she commented, "which side would you prefer?"
I would have appreciated if the room had more light, but the small window that was thankfully there, was towards the bed on the right side of the room, so I pointed over that one.
The bundle I had brought with me had a few dresses in it. I had packed everything in a hurry which is why it was bigger than the one Merlin would make.
"You should go first, princess," Dorothy said as she walked towards the door, "I will get us a pitcher of water until then."
Nodding wordlessly, the moment she left eye open to the bundle and picked out a cotton dress for the night.
By the time she came back, I had already changed and packed my bundle to keep it in the corner of the room. I had no idea where to put it, this was something usually Marilyn would do.
"Here," she handed me a glass of water before going behind the wooden folding wall and changed her clothes.
I kept my glass near the water picture that she had kept on a table, the only table in the room. Before walking over to my side of the room and getting into the covers of the bed.
The moment I shifted under the covers, the fatigue thrust upon me and the entire body started to hurt. I didn’t even register how tired I had been with all that had transpired today but the weight of it dawned on me.
"Tired, prin—"
"Genevive," I corrected her from making the mistake like last time, " I gave you that right, Dorothy . Call me by my name."
"It feels weird." She said before sitting on her bed. "You and I have been close, but you have always been closer to Marilyn. Being this close with you makes me realise that.."
"That?" I probed.
"that you are not like your sister." She whispered softly. "The first princess Estelle, she is quite harsh in nature and I thought you were like her but more refined with us, the more close I grew towards you in these past months I realised that you are nothing like her."
I hummed lazily. The city almost stopped me from defending my sister but I did it anyway. A few words would do it.
"She is the heir to the throne, but it would be taken away from her because of her gender. If her stepbrother gets the position, the kingdom would be incomplete ruin, more than it is now."
I turned to look at her. "sometimes being harsh is the only way to get something in life."
Just like what I had done today. Breaking my heart and breaking his trust just for the freedom of the people.
