The Princess And The Lord-Chapter 1429: Milord First Experience
Chapter 1429: Milord First Experience
"Achooo—"
"Li Xin, are you sick?" Lory looked at him with a worried face.
Zhao Li Xin rubbed his nose. "I don’t think so..." He didn’t know why he had been sneezing so much lately. He turned to Lory. "You’re not thinking about me right now, are you?"
Lory blinked, puzzled. "Not right now." She turned her head back to the large movie board ahead of them. "Right now, I’m thinking whether we should watch this or not." Her eyes sparkled as she stared at the title: Ninety-Nine Betrayals.
It had been so long since she indulged in a messy love story like this. Usually, she would watch these kinds of movies and spend half the time mocking the male and female leads with Girsha.
Perhaps it was this very habit that had sparked Girsha’s fascination with gossiping about humans in the first place.
Meanwhile, Zhao Li Xin was staring at the bold title with an inexplicable expression.
Such a brazen title... He had no idea what kind of story it would be, but seeing the excitement on Lory’s face, he chose to say nothing.
Today, Lory had squeezed precious time out of their chaotic lives to have a few hours of quality time with Zhao Li Xin. With all the trouble surrounding them, her managing kingdom affairs and watching over Lucas’s recovery, meanwhile, Zhao Li Xin delving into new array formations with fire spirits in the Mystique Realm, because of that, they had barely seen each other lately. So she had insisted they spend a few hours together, just the two of them.
As usual, they were in disguise. Thanks to the Versipell Potion, their hair color and styles had changed completely. They now looked like two unassuming college students—nerdy and completely ordinary.
Lory wore a long skirt, a white shirt under a beige oversized sweater, and a simple sling bag. Her light brown hair was curled and lazily braided, with big glasses completing the look. She truly blended in.
Zhao Li Xin, for his part, wore a crisp white shirt, a dark brown cardigan, and khaki pants. His hair was now trimmed short, falling a few inches below his neck, after long pleading and persuasion, Lory finally allowed him to cut his hair.
But only after he promised to take a new hair regrowth potion made by N.I.M.S. that would fasten people’s hair growth, though in truth, he did not need such things.
As a cultivator who had reached the Sovereign level, Zhao Li Xin could control his body down to the cellular level, allowing him to heal from heavy injuries, let alone fasten his hair growth. This was also why cultivators could maintain their youthful appearances for centuries and recover from wounds far faster than ordinary humans.
Lory tugged him over to the ticket machine. As she scanned the screen, she noticed the theater wasn’t too crowded, probably because it was a weekday. That was a relief. Her husband wasn’t fond of noisy, cramped places. After selecting their seats, she purposefully chose ones at the very back and highest row, away from other people.
Next they went to the snacks counter, Lory then bought popcorn, potato chips, and, after repeated pleading Lory finally bought zhao Li Xin Poko Pop soda. Zhao Li Xin was delighted he drink proudly, despited it was the lowest carbonation level, he could tolerate it.
As they waited for the theater to open, Zhao Li Xin’s sharp eyes wandered over the couples around them, some fairly young and they giggling at each other, others middle-aged, and even a few elderly pairs walking arm in arm, exchanging affectionate glances and soft smiles.
In his world, public displays of affection, even between married couples, were considered vulgar, especially among the nobility. He himself had always been an exception to that unspoken rule, never caring what others thought when it came to showing his feelings.
Yet, now that he was here, he realized his own actions seemed almost restrained compared to the young couple nearby, who were passionately kissing in the corner without the slightest care for their surroundings.
Zhao Li Xin frowned faintly in distaste and quickly averted his gaze, letting it fall instead on Lory. She was sitting comfortably, sipping the hot chocolate she had just bought, her cheeks faintly pink from the warm drink.
His eyes then shifted to the bag of snacks balanced on her lap. Popcorn, chips, chocolate bar... she really was a little glutton. The cold edge in his eyes softened beneath the shadow of his long fringe.
He took the bag from Lory’s lap and placed it on his own. Lory leaned against his shoulder as a habit. But then she noticed a group of girls giggling with their friends while sneaking glances at Zhao Li Xin. Lory pursed her lips and lifted her head to look at him. How infuriating. Even with his eyes hidden behind messy fringes and his nose slightly altered to look less perfect, he still managed to draw attention.
However, a moment after, she felt ridiculous to feel this way: why was she even complaining? Didn’t she know this from the very first time she met him? Even in the cultivator world, the number of women willing to throw themselves at Zhao Li Xin could break the four walls of the entire Ning Jing Manor, so why is she angry now?!
Noticing her quiet mood, Zhao Li Xin reached out and gently pinched her chin, then turned her face toward him. His eyes, partially hidden under his fringe, searched hers with a silent question: Are you alright?
Lory blinked a few times, then let out a soft chuckle. They had been married for so long, and yet here she was, sulking over something so trivial like a young girl, and whywas she jealous of those girls? They were only teenagers, perhaps only fifteen or sixteen years old.
Embarrassed by her own pettiness, she leaned in and gave Zhao Li Xin a quick peck on the lips before breaking into a broad grin.
Zhao Li Xin didn’t quite understand how her mood flipped so quickly, but as long as she was smiling again, that was all that mattered to him. Perhaps it’s just... that time of the month? He thought naively.
The group of girls who had been sneaking glances at Zhao Li Xin instantly deflated when they saw the affectionate gesture, but their disappointment didn’t last long. The announcement of the theater’s opening sent them squealing in excitement as they rushed inside, already forgetting about him
Well... that’s how young girls are, their admiration comes and goes as fast as the wind, Lory thought with a small smile.
Soon after, another announcement rang out, it was for their theater. Lory hopped off the couch and tugged on Zhao Li Xin’s hand, her excitement palpable. "Come on, it’s been ages since I last went to a movie theater!"
Zhao Li Xin obediently followed her, his curiosity piqued. It was his first time seeing such a place. As they stepped into the dim auditorium, his eyes widened at the enormous white screen that stretched across the front wall. Lory led him up the stairs to the highest seats at the back.
For a man from an ancient world, Zhao Li Xin found himself strangely eager to see how this would unfold. He swept his gaze to the empty seat in his row then dart his eyes to the screen. Not long after the lights gradually dimmed. Lory settled into her seat, resting a tub of popcorn on her lap and popping a few kernels into her mouth.
Suddenly, a loud sound blasted from the theater’s speakers. Zhao Li Xin grimaced, the volume grating against his highly sensitive hearing. Thankfully, as a cultivator, he quickly adjusted his senses and tuned it out. Moments later, the bright screen flickered to life, and the movie began.
As the plot progressed, Zhao Li Xin found himself dumbfounded at the sheer absurdity of the story.
"Caroline, I love Anna. I want a divorce!"
"How could you do this to me?!"
"You deserve it! You had cheated with my twin brother and caused himto die!"
"I thought he was you and he fell from the horse by accident, it’s not my fault! But how could you dating my twin sister, Anna, now?!"
Zhao Li Xin sat frozen. What in the heavens is this nonsense?
He turned to Lory, only to find her eyes sparkling with excitement as she munched—not on popcorn anymore, but on a bag of potato chips. Zhao Li Xin sighed inwardly. So this is why she used to interrogate Mong Yi about every rumor in the city... and when that wasn’t enough, she’d drag Bei Li Yan into sharing all the juicy scandals from the noble houses and the Imperial Palace. So this is his wife’s hidden hobby.
Then the scene shifted into a steamy bedroom encounter between the man and the stepsister. Zhao Li Xin’s eyes widened. Reflexively, he covered Lory’s eyes.
Lory blinked at the sudden darkness. A sense of déjà vu hit her—Zhao Li Xin had done this before, back when they caught a couple being intimate in the library.
"Hey! Stop it!" she protested, trying to pry his hand away.
"You don’t need to see this," he growled, keeping his hand firmly in place.
Annoyed at missing "Come on Li Xin, this is the best part," Lory managed to push his hand down, only for Zhao Li Xin to clamp it over her eyes again when the ambiguous moans started echoing from the speakers. Now what? Zhao Li Xin thought, conflicted. Should I cover her ears too?
Thankfully, the scene ended after a few minutes when the female lead burst in and screamed:
"How could you?!"
The male protagonist jumped from the bed, hastily covering himself with a sheet then threw classic excused.
"Wait—this isn’t what you think!"
Lory snorted and burst out laughing. "Yeah, right."
Zhao Li Xin blinked in disbelief. What a pathetic excuse.
The story grew increasingly ridiculous. The female lead stormed out, packed up her belongings at the marital home, and dramatically slapped the divorce papers onto the table before walking away.
The male protagonist, now heartbroken, and the next scene shows the male protagonist desperately searching for her. But just as things couldn’t get any more absurd, the scheming twin sister appeared and announced—
"I’m pregnant with twins now!"
Zhao Li Xin’s brow twitched. ’Twins again?’
The plot thickened further—turns out the stepsister was secretly involved with the male protagonist’s father, and the male lead, who was the only child turned out to be infertile. Therefore, the father plotted a scheme to secure his bloodline without his wife knowing.
Lory’s eyes widened with excitement.
Zhao Li Xin’s face, however, grew more perplexed by the minute, he remembered there’s an option called ’surrogacy’ today.
The male protagonist finally snapped. His eyes went wide, veins popping dramatically on his forehead as he bellowed, "YOU RUINED EVERYTHING!"
With strength that defied logic (and physics), he shoved the evil twin sister so hard she shot two meters through the air like a ragdoll launched from a catapult.
She flailed midair in slow motion—arms and legs windmilling—as if trying to grab the nonexistent award for "Best Death Scene." Then, she crashed at the top of the staircase and began her epic tumble.
To add insult to injury, a random family heirloom vase fell off a nearby table and shattered on her head for extra drama points. Of course, the unborn child also perished because this story demands maximum tragedy per second.
Zhao Li Xin pressed his lips into a thin line ’How annoying’
The male lead’s mother was furious and then gave quiet approval to lock away his father in a psychiatric hospital, where the old man’s mind slowly crumbled into madness.
Then somehow the male decides to investigate what happened in the past and found out, it was her evil twin sister who had drugged the female lead into sleeping with his twin brother, weaving lies to tear them apart.
Worse still, the evil twin sister was the one who murdered the twin brother in cold blood, in order to silence him forever when he said he planned to come clean about the truth.
Zhao Li Xin was confused as to why the evil twin had to kill the pitiful twin? The fact that the female lead slept with the male lead’s brother would have ruined their relationship anyway, so why bother?
"Lory... this is so—" He wanted to say how stupid this was, but Lory slapped his arm.
"Hsssh!" Lory hushed him, signaling for him to be quiet.
What can Zhao Li Xin do? he sighed, then reluctantly turn his head back to screen again.
The story continues, the male lead regrets how much he had hurt the female lead and somehow realizes he actually loves the female lead very much, after that he determined to find the female lead to win her back.
Zhao Li Xin: ’...Are you serious?’
When he finally found her, she was already married with twin daughters.
Zhao Li Xin, deadpan he scream inwardly: ’Enough with all the TWINS CR*P!.
The male protagonist pleaded for her to divorce her husband and return to him.
"Come back to me, I’ll raise your daughter as my own! Don’t worry, I can’t have children anyway..."
Zhao Li Xin rubbed his temples. That’s not the words you choose to persuade someone to return.
The female lead understandably furious, then slapped him hard.
"Leave us alone! Don’t ever come near my family again!"
Yet the male lead persisted, following her to her shop and even when she picked up her child, until her husband punched him square in the jaw. Furious, the male protagonist cried out:
"Why did you choose him, Caroline? Don’t you love me? If you worry about your step sister, don’t worry, I have get rid off my father and that wench for you! Now no one can stop us!"
Zhao Li Xin’s face went completely blank, ’again...that’s not how you persuade someone to come back to you’
Suddenly, the movie’s climax hit—an earthquake struck out of nowhere. The ground split dramatically as chaos erupted on screen. Amidst the screaming extras and toppling CGI buildings, the male protagonist heroically yanked the female lead away from a sinkhole that conveniently opened right beneath her feet. free𝑤ebnovel.com
But in a shocking twist, he slipped and fell into the gaping hole himself—of course, the entire scene played out in agonizing slow motion, complete with dramatic music and close-up shots of his outstretched hand. To add even more ’tragedy’ to the story, he was promptly buried alive by falling debris, the camera lingering on a single tear sliding down his dirt-covered face.
Zhao Li Xin’s face darkened. "How annoying," he muttered impatiently, his tone flat with disdain. But then, as the credits began to roll, a sense of relief washed over him. Finally, this absurd story was over.
As the auditorium lights brightened, several girls in the audience wiped tears from their eyes, moved by the tragic love story.
Lory let out a contented sigh and turned to Zhao Li Xin. "So... what did you think?"
Zhao Li Xin stared at her for a long moment, he looked extremely exhausted. Then, in a tone of pure grievance, he said: "I feel a lot of my brain cells are dead."
Lory’s eyes sparkled with delight. "I know, right~?"
