Chapter 32: 32 - Reunion

Elon stared at Ava with obvious admiration, his eyes tracking every movement she made. She looked at him with mild curiosity, waiting for his response.

"Do you know about me?"

Elon hesitated for a moment, clearing his throat carefully before answering. "Ah... yes, I do. Who doesn’t? You’ve aced that difficult department despite not getting support from your main family. Working as a knight in that pathetic family must have hurt your pride considerably."

Ava remembered her time in the Midgard estate vividly—it was decent, not too shabby in terms of accommodations, but all in all she had been pretty much sold there like a commodity to be used. Hence she would hit Cale sometimes to exert her anger and frustration at her situation, taking out her resentment on the only available target. Though it all changed since she last slept with him, everything shifted in her perspective and understanding.

After remembering him with sudden clarity, she decided to ask Elon about his current status. "How is Cale? What’s he doing nowadays?"

Elon frowned, anger developing in him rapidly at the mention of that name. Here he was trying to woo her and make an impression, while she was asking about that failure who barely existed in the academy rankings and competition.

But no one noticed that even William himself admired Ava, watching her with quiet intensity from the side. His eyes followed her movements with interest that rivaled Elon’s.

William suddenly spoke up. "Get away. We need to leave."

He was trying to stop this conversation about the same man Ava talked to everyone about whenever they met her. Her personality had changed drastically since meeting Cale—the old saying about realizing someone’s worth only when you’re away from them seemed to apply perfectly in this case.

William continued with mounting anger. "Let’s leave. You people get away. You’re blocking us."

Elon smirked at the provocation. "How are we blocking you?"

"You are, standing right in front of us and trying to get her favor. You pathetic scum."

Elon laughed dismissively. "Just go by the sides, hehe."

Ava sighed heavily, watching the situation escalate unnecessarily. "This is so childish. Fighting like kids. Let’s just go from the sides."

This bitch acts like she’s resolving the fight, but she’s actually trying to add more oil to the flame, Elon thought bitterly, understanding her intentions.

William took a fighting stance, wanting to make Ava see his so-called manliness and strength. However, she was never really interested in displays of power or dominance from him anyway.

Elon moved quick, exploiting William’s moment of distraction. While William only took a provocative stance, Elon scraped his leg on the ground, making dust form near William’s face in a cloud.

William punched through the dust since he knew Elon was in front of him regardless. Again and again he struck, until one hit connected with Elon’s palm as he blocked it. Elon used a palm technique to hit William’s sides in retaliation, but his abdomen was steel hard, absorbing most of the impact.

But Elon realized quickly that the person ahead was already a Rank 7 Novice cultivator—significantly stronger than him. The realization sent a chill through his body.

After a barrage of exchanges, both of them retreated back, huffing heavily with exhaustion. The other kids saw them separating and took that as their cue, running toward each other to fight in smaller groups.

Ava and two other girls stood back, not a bit interested in this skirmish or the testosterone-fueled display happening around them.

The fight continued as both William and Elon infused aura into their attacks. Each punch became heavier now. William was slowly gaining on Elon as the exchanges continued.

William laughed cynically between punches. "So this is the power of the almighty fool, hehehe. You’re nothing but a pipsqueak, trying to enter such an elite department. And now see how you’ve failed."

Elon’s face became bright red from both exertion and anger at the insult. William pushed forward relentlessly, his punch speed increasing dramatically as he sensed victory approaching.

Elon quickly took a defensive stance, crossing both his arms and using his forearms to cover his face completely. William continuously kept hitting the same spot, hoping Elon would open up eventually and create an opening for a decisive blow.

The roars of these kids fighting was loud enough to be heard from around one hundred meters away, echoing through the academy grounds.

Cale was walking leisurely, humming to himself, toward the location Elon had given him in the letter. Both his hands were locked behind his back as he moved with relaxed confidence. He stared at the clouds passing overhead, lost in his own thoughts.

Since he asked me to waste time in the letter, why not waste more? I’m not in any mood for duels today anyway. It was more interesting to cultivate and train instead.

While walking close to the fighting area, Cale sensed the energy bursts and screams of kids battling. The sounds grew louder as he approached.

"Huh, is there a fight nearby?"

He turned toward that direction and ran as fast as he could. Since he could hear girl screams too mixed with the sounds of combat, he wanted to know what was happening.

As soon as he reached the place, the first thing he saw was William holding Elon by his throat using his forearm, pushing him back against a tree trunk. Elon was choking from the grip, but William kept punching relentlessly. Both were injured, but Elon’s face was badly hurt with blood streaming down.

William laughed cynically. "Elon, haha, see? I told you. You’re fucking weak."

He punched him more, and more, and more. Blood spattered across the tree, Elon’s mouth and nose bleeding profusely.

Cale was slowly coming closer while observing from behind a tree, trying to assess the situation. He had yet to see Ava among the girls standing to the side.

Elon saw William laughing at him and then spat down hard.

"Ptuh!"

"Haaah, fuck you. You think I’ll submit to this? Don’t forget your place."

Who did this guy offend right after challenging me? Cale thought, watching the scene unfold.

Cale was actually impressed by the willpower Elon displayed. He thought Elon would have already bent and tried to escape this place, but the fight seemed more personal than simple academy rivalry.

Ava saw the escalation and was getting increasingly annoyed by it. She walked toward William, trying to defuse the situation.

"Hey, why don’t you let him go? We should get out of here too." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

William was still in the fighting zone completely, lost in his rage. He didn’t listen and picked up a palm-sized rock from the ground, about to hit Elon with it.

As soon as he was about to strike with the rock, Cale quickly went in and held his arm tight, stopping the blow completely.

William turned behind to see who had interrupted him. "Are you one of his men too? No, you’re stronger than him."

Ava saw Cale and stood stunned, her entire body going rigid. She knew Cale was here somewhere, but she had been trying to find him without success, not able to meet him for such a long time. Call it sexual attraction, or slightly romantic attraction mixed with admiration, she definitely felt that he was better than any other man she’d encountered.

Meanwhile, all of William’s guys ran toward Cale with killing intent in their eyes and movements.

Cale sensed them easily since none of them except William were above Rank 5. He hit one behind the neck, then hit another on the area below his throat using two fingers joined together. He hit two more in their sides with controlled strikes, and the rest all went down from punches to their faces.

Seeing Cale’s speed, William was also enraged and jumped back into the fight himself. Elon was equally surprised by the sudden intervention and improvement in Cale’s combat abilities.

Cale took a few blows too, but his slow Yang healing was good enough to handle this amount of damage. It was a lowest-tier skill, but thankfully it had its own practical uses for quick recovery.

Ava looked at Cale while he fought, her expression thoughtful. He has grown so much since then. Looks more manly too. She clicked her lips unconsciously.

Two of William’s men came running with daggers in their hands.

Cale hardened his palm skin enough with qi so it wouldn’t cut for at least a few seconds. He held the blade with bare hands and then punched both of them simultaneously, dropping them.

Cale then looked at Ava, finally recognizing her clearly. Though she was a bitch throughout their time together, he did feel something since it had been a long time he met someone he actually knew from before. Still, she was a bitch anyway, so giving her more than she deserved was unnecessary.

Cale went to her, his movements casual despite the chaos around them.

"Hey."

Ava blushed slightly, evading his eyes with embarrassment. "H... hi."

"So, you got in from your family, not as a knight."

"Ah... yes."

Cale tilted his head slightly. "But didn’t they... abandon you? Why did you go to them?"

Ava frowned deeply, clearly not wanting to answer that question. She had been sent to support her sister, someone she had never seen since they both turned twelve years old.

Cale realized this wasn’t something she wanted to discuss or explain. He let the topic drop.

"Well, it’s been a long time, right?"

Ava laughed softly, a sad sound. "Haha, really... really long."
