The Lady of the Prestigious Family is a Big Boss-Chapter 47 - 0, Fifth Master: Is this all I’m worth? (three watches into the night)
Li Mochan’s brows relaxed, he gave her a slight glance with profound eyes, "Do you remember that you still owe me a meal?"
The sudden change in topic caught Ye Jiuliang off guard.
The startled expression in her eyes told Li Mochan that she had indeed forgotten about it.
His mood instantly plummeted to rock bottom, his tone tinged with a hint of sourness, "If you don’t remember, then forget it, just go on copying your family rules."
"I haven’t forgotten, I haven’t forgotten." Action preceding thought, Wen Liang’s hand grasped his sleeve tightly, creating slight wrinkles on the smooth fabric.
"How could I forget such an important matter as inviting Master Li for a meal, why not strike while the iron is hot, I’ll treat you to a meal right now."
Being alone here was too boring, and chatting with him was quite entertaining.
Li Mochan reminded her pointedly, "Aren’t you grounded?"
"..."
Ye Jiuliang was at a loss for words. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Letting go of his sleeve, she turned to grab her phone, "We can just order takeout."
There was no response from behind her, and when Ye Jiuliang turned her head to look, Li Mochan was standing still. She walked over and pulled him back.
Li Mochan looked down at the small hand tugging at his sleeve, a captivating smile briefly crossing his lips, which he swiftly concealed.
Ye Jiuliang let go of his sleeve, scrolling through her phone for recommendations of tasty spots in the capital city, "What do you like to eat?"
When inviting someone for a meal, naturally, she should choose something the person likes.
"I’m not picky," he said.
The subtext was, "You decide."
Ye Jiuliang’s eyes sparked, an idea forming.
That’s it, Li Mochan has definitely never tried it.
She quickly placed the order, tossed her phone on the table, and, leaning on her hands on the surface, jumped up to sit on the table with a graceful swing of her feet, which she dangled in the air.
Her straight legs swung freely, not finding a place to rest.
"Did you come to the Ye Family alone?" She asked casually.
"My father is here as well."
So, the elder Mr. Li had come, too.
Ye Jiuliang raised her eyebrows, "Could it be because of that incident at the banquet the other day?"
Could it be a reckoning after the autumn harvest?
Li Mochan said, "No."
"Then what’s it for?"
"An engagement," he said tersely.
Ye Jiuliang blurted out, "You’re getting engaged?"
Forgive Master Jiu for not normally paying much attention to the affairs of the Ye Family; the matter of Ye Xin’s engagement had long been forgotten by her.
Moreover, in her eyes, even if it were a Li Family member getting married, with Li Mochan’s ’keep strangers away’ character, he certainly wouldn’t show much enthusiasm.
Without answering, Li Mochan narrowed his dark eyes, probing as he asked, "What, are you going to give me a gift?"
"We’re friends now, right? Wrapping up a big red envelope for you is definitely possible," though this friendship isn’t very close, she mumbled inwardly.
Hearing this, Li Mochan’s gaze turned cold as he averted his face, picking up the paper with the copied family rules to browse through it.
Seeing him pulling a long face again, Ye Jiuliang scratched the back of her head, wondering if he thought a red envelope was insincere?
Well, indeed it wasn’t very sincere; money was probably the last thing he needed.
"Wait, I asked you that day, didn’t you say you didn’t have anyone you liked?" Ye Jiuliang belatedly recalled the words she teased him with on the terrace that day.
If he had no one he liked, where did this engagement come from?
Not wanting to continue the topic and irritate himself, he said, "It’s Li Jingjie and Ye Xin’s engagement."
At his reminder, Ye Jiuliang suddenly remembered the matter.
"Hurry up and write," Li Mochan reminded her, still holding onto the notion of her giving him a red envelope, and feeling irritated, he resorted to talking about family rules.
Ye Jiuliang grumbled, "My hand is sore, I can’t write anymore."
Li Mochan glanced at her sidelong, his gaze moving fluidly, "You don’t want to write?"
"Do you have a way?" Her eyes lit up.
"It depends on your sincerity."
"How about two bottles of wine?"
"I’m not a drunkard," he said flatly.
With her, apart from drinking, there was left to eat, "How about I treat you to a meal?"
"Is that all I’m worth?" His voice, low and husky, carried a tinge of discontent.
"Then what do you want?"
"I can ask for anything?"
The man’s deep gaze seemed to be hiding something, and just as Ye Jiuliang was about to delve deeper, she saw that deep and aloof look return to his eyes.
"You tell me."
"The Beisen monthly exam is next week, don’t fail it again," Li Mochan moved his gaze away, settling on her hands propped on the desk.
His memory drifted back to that night of the birthday banquet.
On the rooftop, she placed her hand in his palm.
Her hand was soft, very cold.
Yet, inexplicably addictive, making one want to hold onto it forever...
"How about this, if I get first in the grade, you get those teachers not to assign me homework, and you also stop asking me to write papers," Master Jiu always made sure his deals were ’all gain, no loss.’
"Fine."
She expected she’d have to argue with him, but he agreed so easily with a simple ’fine.’
Happiness arrived so swiftly that Ye Jiuliang was taken aback.
A rare wooden expression on her face, "You’re serious?"
Li Mochan nodded.
"Master Li, I’ve realized you’ve gotten more and more handsome," Ye Jiuliang smiled contentedly, generously lavishing praise.
Li Mochan shot her a glance, the little wolf pup laughing merrily, her eyes curving into crescents, endearingly cute.
