Chapter 39: Chapter 39: The Demonic Soldiers Descend, Mass Slaughter

A thick fog of blood filled the square as more and more people died in agony.

Bodies piled up, fresh blood pooled together, and the crimson light grew blindingly bright.

Allen was now directly above Kyle. Flames churned around him, wind howled, and countless fireballs and wind blades rained down from the sky.

"Be careful, my lord!"

Kyle’s guards rushed up without hesitation, throwing their bodies in the path of Allen’s Forbidden Spell to block the attack.

Boom! Boom!

The ground shook with roaring fire and violent wind. Dozens of them were blown apart by the sheer force. The energy shockwave even hit Kyle; he spat blood, his face turning even paler.

Yet, he didn’t try to dodge. He just kept muttering incantations under his breath.

"You really are just like that Heavenly King," the priest said coldly, watching Allen unleash spell after spell. "You don’t care about the life force burned by Forbidden Spells!"

"Shut up," Allen snapped. His expression was grim. He gathered more fireballs and wind blades, firing them down at Kyle with reckless fury.

"It’s too late, kid! You’re all going to die!"

Kyle felt the terrifying power hidden within Allen’s spells and went mad with laughter, grinning wildly.

"Hell’s Gate, OPEN!"

His voice echoed, cold and deep. The crimson light flared up once more, becoming brighter and more intense.

Grrr-rumble...

Suddenly, the ground shook violently. Adventurers stumbled and fell as a pitch-black, deep chasm tore open in the square.

"Roar..."

Guttural screams erupted from the rift. Thick black mist surged out, engulfing the entire square and spreading rapidly outward.

A chilling, evil aura flooded the air.

Everyone stopped fighting, their faces twisted in terror as they frantically looked around.

Kyle, struck repeatedly by Allen’s Forbidden Spells, lay motionless in a pool of blood. He was barely alive, yet a cold, sinister smile lingered on his lips.

Hell’s Gate is open. Blackspire will be destroyed, but I haven’t lost!

"Aaaah!"

Suddenly, a terrible wail pierced the air from within the mist. Blood sprayed everywhere as one man was brutally cleaved in half.

Beneath the black fog, a massive shadow loomed. It was huge and muscular, with glowing red eyes, devil horns sprouting from its head, and a thick, powerful tail whipping behind it.

A demonic soldier!

And this time, they weren’t alone. As the Hell’s Gate opened, more demonic soldiers poured out. Wielding massive butcher knives, they ruthlessly slaughtered the adventurers.

These demonic soldiers were all at stage 5 or stage 6 cultivation. Except for a few powerful masters in Blackspire, everyone else had no chance against them.

"Help!"

"Kyle, I hope your ancestors rot in hell! I’ll haunt you even as a ghost!"

"Run! Get out of Blackspire!"

Screams and curses echoed across the square as countless adventurers died in agony.

"This is it!" the priest cried out in despair. The Hell’s Gate was fully open and couldn’t be closed. Blackspire would inevitably fall, becoming a paradise for demons.

"Allen! Find Lilia and get out of here!" Lucas’s voice shouted from below.

He was trapped by three demonic soldiers, and the situation looked hopeless.

"Hold on! I’ll find Lilia first." Allen knew time was tight. He slapped the stunned priest hard on the head. "Get back to the high platform and find Lilia!"

"I’m not your steed, kid!"

The priest roared in anger. He twisted his body violently, throwing Allen off his back before Allen could react.

Without looking back, the priest fled toward the city gate.

"Damn it!" Allen cursed, scrambling to his feet just as a demonic soldier charged at him.

He raised his Saber to block.

Clang!

A terrifying force slammed into his weapon. Allen’s arm went numb, his palm stung, and he was knocked backward step by step.

Just then, two more demonic soldiers joined the attack.

Vwooo!

Sacred light surged as a spear shot through the air, forcing the two monsters to back off.

It was Lucas.

His hair was messy, his clothes torn, and blood trickled from his corner of his mouth. He was clearly injured too.

"Go!" he gritted out, blocking attacks from the two demonic soldiers again. "Hurry up!"

Allen quickly got back up and fired two Heaven’s Punishment: Fireball spells. The explosions forced the monsters back. He ran toward the high platform with Lucas.

"City Lord, is there any way to close the Hell’s Gate?"

Looking at the adventurers dying around them, Allen couldn’t help but ask.

Lucas shook his head in despair. "It’s too late to stop this now. We just need to escape and report to the higher-ups."

Allen stayed silent for a moment, then gathered his magic. Fireballs and wind blades erupted from him, carving a bloody path through the horde as he rushed toward the high platform to reunite with Lilia.

"Father!"

Lilia was pale with fear. Seeing that Allen and Lucas were safe, she finally let out a breath.

"City Lord, move! A stage 7 Demon Guard is coming..." a shadow guard whispered weakly from a pool of blood.

Demon Guards were far stronger than demonic soldiers. With a cultivation level of at least stage 7, no one in Blackspire could stand against one.

Lucas looked at the dead shadow guards and city soldiers, his teeth gritted. Coldly, he said, "Raven, take people and escort the young lady and Allen away."

"Sir, what about you?" Raven asked, frowning.

"I will lead the remaining city soldiers and buy you time," Lucas replied. He gripped his spear as holy light enveloped him, already resolved to fight to the death.

"Father, I’m not leaving! I’ll stay with you!" Lilia shook her head, grabbing Lucas’s arm, refusing to let go.

"Allen, take Lilia and go. Remember, head to the Apocalypse Academy."

Lucas gritted his teeth again and pushed Lilia away.

"I’ll protect Lilia safely," Allen said, giving him one last look before grabbing Lilia’s hand and sprinting for the exit.

"Father!"

Lilia struggled, but her injuries hadn’t healed, and her strength hadn’t returned. She couldn’t break free.

"Miss, Allen, clear the path!" Raven led over a dozen shadow guards, charging fearlessly at the demonic soldiers.

The black mist swirled, and moments later, they could no longer see Lucas. All they heard were the sounds of clashing steel and the roaring of demonic soldiers.

Lilia wiped a tear from her eye and looked at Allen. "Allen, don’t worry about me. Just escape for now. Avenge me later."

She knew shadow guards had no chance against these demonic soldiers. But Allen mastered Forbidden Spells. If he went all out, maybe they could break through.

"Silly girl, what are you talking about? I’m not leaving you behind."

Allen smiled faintly and unleashed Forbidden Spells in a frenzy, blasting the endless wave of demonic soldiers rushing toward them.

The group fought their way out, finally breaking through the square.

Here, thick black mist still filled the air, covering all of Blackspire. Through the fog, more demonic soldiers kept emerging.

BOOM!

A loud explosion sent Raven flying backward, spitting blood. His face was frozen in terror. "Miss, run! There’s a Demon Guard!"

He struggled to speak the few words, then his head slumped, and his life faded away.

"Hmph, none of you are getting away. Today, this city will serve as a sacrifice!"

A cold voice echoed from the mist. Then, an even larger and more imposing figure stepped forward.

It was a Demon Guard from the demons, a powerhouse at Stage 7!

"Fight to the death!" shouted the dozen shadow guards. They charged forward without hesitation.

Vwooo...

The Saber hummed, flashing with cold light as a blinding aura of blood filled the air.

With just one swing, all dozen shadow guards were killed instantly. They had no chance to fight back.

The Demon Guard casually shook the blood off his Saber and locked eyes with Allen and Lilia.

A chill ran down their spines.

Allen instinctively tightened his grip on Lilia’s small hand. He sped up the Art of Immortality, channeling powerful magic around him. Several wind blades and fireballs launched toward the Demon Guard.

Boom! Boom!

Fireballs exploded, and wind blades clashed. The powerful force momentarily buried the Demon Guard.

But soon, the energy faded. The massive figure emerged, completely unharmed.

"Hmph, just a bunch of ants!" the Demon Guard said coldly, slowly raising his Saber.

Allen felt a deep sense of helplessness. Even with his Forbidden Spells, he had zero chance against a Stage 7 expert.

"Allen, go first! I’ll try to hold it off!" Lilia gritted her teeth, stepping forward, but Allen grabbed her arm instantly.

"It’s no use! This monster is too terrifying. I can’t escape either."

Instead of panicking, Allen calmly stared at the approaching Demon Guard, showing no fear at all.

"Hmph, fine. Since you’re a man, I’ll give you a quick death!"

The Demon Guard sneered, lifting his heavy Saber high for a mighty downward slash.

Lilia gripped Allen’s arm tightly and closed her eyes in despair.

BOOM!

A violent explosion sent both Allen and Lilia flying. They landed safely, completely unharmed.

However, the Demon Guard had been cleaved in half by a mysterious force. His red eyes were wide open, staring up in death.

"A-Allen... what happened?" Lilia asked, trembling in disbelief after surviving the near-fatal attack.

Allen looked just as confused, slowly glancing up into the misty sky.

That strike had come from the sky, instantly killing a Stage 7 Demon Guard. Could there be a hidden, terrifying master in Blackspire?

"Get back!"

Suddenly, a roar echoed from the high sky. The voice was hoarse and weathered, yet it covered the entire city of Blackspire.

Everyone heard it and immediately stopped their attacks.

The demonic soldiers and Demon Guards, who had been boasting and ruthlessly slaughtering adventurers just moments ago, now froze in terror. Their bodies shook as they scrambled to flee, rushing desperately toward the open Hell’s Gate.

For a moment, everyone was stunned, confused by the sudden turn of events.

Whoosh...

An endless sea of black fog surged forward, wildly rushing toward Hell’s Gate.

In an instant, the sky and ground returned to clarity. Every demonic soldier and Demon Guard vanished, leaving behind only a devastated battlefield filled with piled bodies and rivers of blood.

Above them, a lone figure stood suspended in mid-air, their robes flowing in the wind. They required no external force to fly.

"A King Tier expert!"

Someone in the crowd shrieked, their voice trembling.

Flying in the air was the hallmark of a King Tier powerhouse.

Allen stared at the lonely figure in the sky. For some reason, his heart suddenly tightened, and a wave of deep sorrow washed over him. Tears streamed down his face uncontrollably.

"You... you are the Demon King!" Lucas shouted from nearby, gripping his spear tightly. He stared at the figure with sheer terror.

The figure was surrounded by monsters, with an evil aura swirling around him. He was clearly not human.

A Demon King?

The tiny sliver of hope the crowd had just felt was crushed again.

A Demon King was the most terrifying existence among the demons, equivalent to a human King Tier expert.

To put it simply, one Demon King was more terrifying than tens of thousands of demonic soldiers and Demon Guards combined.

The figure said nothing. He glanced down at the massive rift in the square, where dark energy still billowed from the open Hell’s Gate.

Vwooo!

He slightly raised his hand. A streak of black cold light surged forth, slashing directly toward the Hell’s Gate.
