The Heaven-Cursed Costs Life, But I Have Infinite Life-Chapter 28: The Secret Letter — Joining the City Lord’s Mansion
Noticing their confusion, Gamma explained, "The werewolf clan and the vampire race have a deep history. In the vampire line, only princes and those above it do not need to drink blood to survive. They are also immune to sunlight and silver. Didn’t you notice how weak Lilia became after being locked up in the church?"
Fear of light is another weakness of vampires, and even the princes cannot escape it.
Priest frowned. Based on what Gamma said, there were indeed many strange things about Lilia, all matching the traits of a vampire.
"If this is true, we don’t need to do anything ourselves. Just spreading this news would be enough to bring Lucas down." Kyle looked cold but his eyes sparkled with excitement.
Priest shook his head. "This matter is too serious. Do not interfere."
He had more important things to deal with. If his guess was right, Allen was the biggest threat and must be reported immediately, without alerting them.
Kyle gave him a puzzled look, feeling a bit annoyed, but finally said, "Fine. I’ll follow your orders."
"Return first, I still have things to handle," Priest said, dismissing them. Ignoring the two, he turned and walked into a small wooden hut behind the main hall.
Kyle frowned. He had a feeling the man was hiding something important from him.
He glanced at the alert William and led Gamma away.
Soon after, Priest came out of the hut, holding a bamboo tube sealed with wax. He handed it to William and said seriously, "Send your most trusted man to deliver this letter to Stormcrest Ethan bishop immediately. Remember, you must hand it over personally to the bishop."
Seeing how serious Priest was, William took the bamboo tube with both hands and promised, "Don’t worry, sir. I will make sure my man delivers it to the bishop personally."
"Go now." Priest waved his hand, looking tired. For some reason, he felt a vague unease in his heart.
...
Meanwhile, Allen followed Lucas and the others as they left. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Allen, the slum area is being rebuilt. Since you have nowhere else to stay, why not move into the City Lord’s Mansion for now?" Lilia made the offer again.
"All right, then I’ll trouble you," Allen agreed, having nowhere else to go.
"Good. I’ll arrange your living quarters right away." Lilia beamed with joy and quickened her pace.
Zakar stood nearby, shaking his head with a bitter smile. "A daughter grown and no longer staying at home."
Allen ignored him, studying Simon curiously. Frowning, he asked, "Sir, have we met before?"
"No, never met before." Simon shook his head firmly.
"Really?" Allen didn’t buy it. He kept to himself and rarely met anyone. Besides Lilia and the teachers and students at the Academy, the only person he knew well was the butcher from the underground casino.
"I remember now!"
Allen suddenly realized something. He took a step back, looking alert. "You’re the one who tried to assassinate me with Mason that night!"
"Hey, kid, don’t make up lies!" Simon snapped angrily. He had only wanted to teach Allen a lesson back then; he never meant to kill anyone.
Besides, that bastard hadn’t lost anything; he was the one who nearly fell into the trap himself.
Lilia looked puzzled and frowned. "Allen, are you sure you’re Misting Artaken? Simon isn’t that kind of person."
"Exactly," Simon added angrily. "Kid, don’t be ungrateful. If I really wanted to kill you, do you think you’d still be alive?"
Allen froze. At the time, he definitely couldn’t beat him, and even now he wasn’t sure he could handle him.
Also, Simon had given him a book about The Heaven-Cursed, which seemed like he was helping him.
"It seems I misunderstood." Allen lowered his guard, though confusion grew in his heart. He glanced at Lucas.
These two seemed to have no ill will, and they had just saved him. What was their angle?
Allen had lived in the slums for years. He had seen enough of life’s ups and downs. There was no such thing as kindness without a reason in this world.
"My Lord!" Suddenly, a dark figure appeared, startling Allen.
The man held out a small bamboo tube and said respectfully, "A shadow guard just intercepted a letter from the Church of Light."
Lucas took it, energy surging in his palm. The wax seal melted away, revealing the letter inside.
He read the contents, his frown deepening. His expression turned serious.
Simon leaned over, confused. He too looked grim. "So that priest is indeed no ordinary man. He exposed himself so quickly."
Lucas said nothing. Seeing Allen and Lilia look curious, he handed them the letter. "This concerns you two. Take a look."
After reading the letter, their faces also shifted slightly.
"Heavenly King? Wasn’t that a legendary figure who died over ten years ago? What does he have to do with me?" Allen asked, puzzled.
The letter revealed that Allen’s blood contained a powerful life force. It also suggested he might be connected to the fallen Heavenly King.
The butcher already knew the secret of his blood, so this exposure wasn’t surprising. But the Heavenly King had died long before Allen was born. What connection could there possibly be?
Lucas frowned deeply. Based on this letter, the Church of Light knew long ago that the Heavenly King was also a member of The Heaven-Cursed.
However, they didn’t know that Allen was the Heavenly King’s descendant.
"The Heavenly King, like you, was a member of The Heaven-Cursed," Lucas explained. He kept the connection between Allen and the Heavenly King hidden.
"The Heavenly King was a member of The Heaven-Cursed? Didn’t he live for hundreds of years? Does that mean..." Allen didn’t finish his sentence.
It seemed the Art of Immortality wasn’t unique to him. His father knew about it, so maybe the Heavenly King had a similar Cultivation Method to extend his life and escape the curse of The Heaven-Cursed.
Allen handed the letter back to Lucas and asked, "What do we do now? Lilia’s identity is exposed. The Church of Light won’t spare her."
His power was too weak right now. He was no match for the Church of Light and was in constant danger of death. He had to stick with Lilia and seek help from the City Lord’s Mansion.
Lucas didn’t call him out on his plan. Instead, he turned to Raven and asked, "Where was this letter going?"
"To Stormcrest Ethan bishop," Raven answered.
"Stormcrest?" Simon frowned and thought for a moment. "That’s hundreds of kilometers away. The roads are terrible. A round trip would take at least a month at best."
Lucas nodded. He gave orders to Raven, "Take care of the messenger. Leave no trace. Have the shadow guards watch the Church of Light twenty-four hours a day. Also, the City Guard must closely monitor anyone trying to leave the city. If anyone looks suspicious, kill them on the spot."
"Understood!" Raven replied. He vanished instantly into the night.
Allen watched Lucas with respect in his heart.
This man was decisive and ruthless. He had secretly built a powerful force behind the scenes. No wonder he had held the position of City Lord for over ten years.
"Kid, don’t worry. I have no ill will toward you," Lucas noticed Allen’s gaze and said calmly.
"Understood. Thank you, City Lord," Allen smiled and thanked him, but he didn’t believe a word of it.
Even if Lucas had no bad intentions, he was probably just seeing Allen’s potential.Men who play politics and schemes like that can never be trusted.
However, if he could secure his daughter, that might be a different story.
Allen glanced at Lilia standing nearby.
To be honest, no man would stay calmin the face of such a beauty. Besides, during the past few days, he had developed feelings for Lilia.
"There’s one more thing," Lucas said, looking at both Allen and Lilia. "Dean Flynn has the City Guard leading the Academy students to the wilderness to level up. Do you two want to join them?"
Allen had destroyed the Academy’s beginner secret realm, leaving all the students unable to level up. If they were to go out into the wilderness alone, it would be too dangerous. Plus, seven days wouldn’t be enough to reach Stage 1, Level 5. This would severely hurt Quinn Academy’s graduation rate.
With no other choice, Flynn had to turn to Lucas for help.
Lilia didn’t answer right away. Instead, she looked at Allen and asked, "Allen, what about you?"
"I’m not going. I have other things to do," Allen said. He didn’t want to get mixed up with those people. Besides, after reaching Stage 2, his leveling speed had slowed down significantly. He’d be better off using this time to master a few more skills.
"Then I’ll go with you," Lilia said, holding onto Allen’s arm. She didn’t have much desire to level up either.
Lucas watched this scene and felt a bitter taste in his mouth. These two weren’t even officially together yet, but his daughter was already following this kid’s lead. What would happen in the future?
"Kid, stay away from my daughter from now on!" Lucas glared at Allen and threatened him coldly.
Allen shrugged helplessly. "So, should I leave the City Lord’s Mansion?"
"No way!" Lilia wrapped her arm around Allen’s, turned to Lucas, and protested, "Dad, you already agreed, how can you go back on your word? Also, be polite to Allen. Otherwise, how will the citizens of the city respect you in the future?"
