The Heaven-Cursed Costs Life, But I Have Infinite Life-Chapter 27: The City Lord Confronts, Gamma’s Guesses
The Priest hurriedly stood up, his face plastered with a fake smile as he stretched out both hands to greet them warmly. "My apologies for not welcoming you sooner, City Lord! I wasn’t expecting a late-night visit. How can I help?"
Lucas looked at the man’s hypocritical grin and felt a wave of disgust. He gave a perfunctory handshake and said coldly, "You have my daughter. I’m here to get her back."
"Your daughter? Miss Lilia?" The Priest looked skeptical, shaking his head immediately. "City Lord, please don’t joke like that. Even if you gave me ten lives, I’d never dare to grab Miss Lilia."
Lucas shot a glance at Kyle beside him, impatiently snapping, "Stop wasting words. We both know what’s going on. Someone destroyed the Butcher’s underground casino tonight, and that person was my daughter."
"Is that true?" The Priest feigned total ignorance, turning to the burly man beside him.
The burly man nodded, understanding the situation. He stepped forward and replied, "Priest, that’s right. Tonight, two thugs destroyed the underground casino and slaughtered dozens. We captured them. One was a girl dressed as a man. Could it be Miss Lilia?"
"Fool!" the Priest cursed angrily. "Don’t you know Miss Lilia? Just let them go!"
"But..." The man hesitated, glancing at Lucas before speaking carefully. "That might not follow the rules. These two were causing chaos in the city and killing innocent people. We have every right to arrest them."
"Killing innocents? Hmph!" Lucas scoffed. He pulled a stack of documents from his chest and threw them onto the table in front of the Priest. "Look at these. They are proof of the Butcher’s illegal human trafficking, illegal profits, and attempts to silence witnesses. Take a good look."
The Priest picked up the papers and pretended to read through them seriously.
Lucas then turned to Kyle, his voice dropping even colder. "Mr. Kyle, I heard the Butcher belongs to you? Shouldn’t you check the crimes your people have committed?"
Kyle let out a nervous, forced laugh and quickly said, "City Lord, I had no idea about any of this."
"Is that so?" Lucas laughed bitterly. "You’d better keep better control of your men, Mr. Kyle. Otherwise, one bad apple will spoil the whole bunch!"
"Right, right! City Lord is absolutely right. I’ll go back and discipline my men immediately!" Kyle nodded rapidly in agreement.
At that moment, the Priest finished flipping through the evidence regarding the Butcher. His face twisted with anger. "I never expected anyone to commit such heinous crimes. City Lord, since this is all a misunderstanding, I will release Miss Lilia right away."
He waved to the burly man beside him.
"And Allen as well," Lucas said calmly.
"That might not be appropriate," the Priest frowned, looking troubled. "City Lord, to my knowledge, Allen isn’t from your City Lord’s Mansion. Even if killing innocents was done in the name of justice, it must still be punished. But rest assured, City Lord, I won’t make things difficult for such talent."
In his eyes, Allen was even more important than Lilia.
A The Heaven-Cursed Class Awakened, though short-lived, could be a sharp blade if used correctly to clear obstacles for the Church of Light’s expansion.
Kyle thought the same and quickly nodded in agreement. "City Lord, Blackspire isn’t your personal kingdom. As City Lord, you should set an example. Even if Allen’s intentions were good, breaking the law is still breaking the law and cannot be easily forgiven. This guy showed such brutality right after leaving the Academy. He needs strict control, or else it will cause endless trouble in the future."
Lucas grew impatient and snapped coldly, "And if I insist on taking both of them away?"
The Priest’s face also turned cold. "City Lord, the Church of Light has the authority to supervise you. If you insist on this, don’t blame me for exercising my own rights."
"Such big talk, but you can’t control me!" Lucas sneered, signaling Simon beside him.
Simon stepped forward, pulled a token from his chest, and held it up. It was dark red with a golden rim, engraved with two ancient, solemn characters: BISHOP.
The Cardinal’s Decree!
The Priest’s face drained of color. He scrambled to bow deeply, stammering, "My apologies, My Lord Bishop!"
The burly man beside him also dropped to his knees immediately.
Simon spoke calmly. "Now, are you still going to object as we take Allen away?"
"I dare not," the Priest swallowed hard. Seeing the Bishop’s seal, he felt as though the Bishop himself had arrived. He wouldn’t dare go against it.
He just couldn’t figure out how Lucas could have such a thing. A rare Bishop’s Seal? Even the Cardinal’s Decree?
The Priest glared at the burly man still kneeling on the floor. "What are you standing there for? Let them go!"
"Yes, yes," the man stammered. He didn’t dare hesitate anymore and quickly stood up to leave.
Soon, Allen and Lilia were brought in.
Lilia looked pale and her spirit was low.
Allen, on the other hand, looked confused. He had just been thrown into the dungeon and didn’t expect to be released so quickly. Lucas’s influence was far greater than he had imagined.
Stepping into the main hall, Allen noticed the man sitting in the high seat. With thick eyebrows, sharp eyes, and an aura of authority, he had to be Lilia’s father, Lucas, the City Lord of Blackspire.
However, Allen was even more curious about the middle-aged man standing next to Lucas. He seemed familiar, like he had seen him somewhere before.
"Miss, are you okay?" Simon hurried over to support Lilia, pouring a wave of pure energy into her body.
Lilia’s color returned slightly. She shook her head weakly.
Lucas also let out a sigh of relief. He gave a slight nod to the Priest and said simply, "Goodbye."
"Safe travels, my Lord City Commander," the Priest said, rising to see the group off at the grand hall’s entrance. Once their figures had vanished from sight, his brow furrowed even deeper into a knot of worry.
Kyle asked in confusion, "Priest, didn’t you say Lucas isn’t part of your Church of Light? Why would he have a Cardinal’s Bishop’s token?"
"I wonder the same thing," the Priest muttered softly, equally puzzled.
He definitely didn’t believe Lucas was part of the Church of Light.
For all these years as City Lord, Lucas had been secretly suppressing the church’s power and even openly opposing them. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been constantly trying to help Kyle rise to power.
"Sir."A man with a cold, sinister expression appeared. He looked at Kyle, hesitating before he spoke.
The Priest frowned slightly. He recognized this man: Gamma, a werewolf, the strongest of Kyle’s men, currently at Stage 5 cultivation. His power was no joke.
"What’s wrong? Just say it!" Kyle said calmly.
Gamma glanced at the Priest before speaking. "Before, the Butcher asked me to investigate that Allen. His blood contains Life Energy. Also, the Butcher once suspected Lucas was a vampire, but he denied it later. I think Lucas sensed something, which is why he invited death upon himself."
"Wait!"
The Priest cut him off, frowning. "What did you just say? That boy’s blood contains Life Energy?"
"That’s right," Gamma nodded. He didn’t seem too worried about it. Blood containing Life Energy was common—like among the Elves, or some humans practicing special techniques. But Allen’s Life Energy was much stronger.
"The Heaven-Cursed... with Life Energy in his blood? How is that even possible?" the Priest muttered in horror. He turned to the burly man, asking seriously, "William, when you caught him, did you see him cast any Forbidden Spells? Did they have any strange effects?"
William blinked, then replied, "When I caught him, he used over a dozen Forbidden Spells. There didn’t seem to be any big effects."
"How is that possible? Could it be Legendary? Is it true?" The Priest took a step back, his face filled with terror.
Kyle looked completely confused. "Sir Priest, using Forbidden Spells drains the Life-Cursed of their lifespan. Since that boy is so young, he shouldn’t show such obvious signs."
"Sir, do you think the demonic soldier in the secret realm was also killed by that Allen?" Gamma whispered.
"Shut up!" Kyle growled under his breath. The demonic soldier’s appearance was his doing; he intended to kill Lilia. He couldn’t let this secret get out.
He stole a quick glance at the Priest. The man looked like he’d lost his mind, distracted, as if he hadn’t heard a word of their conversation.
Gamma realized he almost slipped up and quickly changed the subject. "I’m not talking about Allen. I’m talking about Lilia."
"Lilia?"
The Priest shook off his daze and looked at Gamma, confused.
Kyle also asked in disbelief, "Is there a problem with Lilia?"
Gamma nodded. "The Butcher once guessed that Lucas was a vampire. That wasn’t just wild speculation. I suspect the Butcher was right, but not about the City Lord. I think the vampire is his daughter, Lilia."
"Lilia is a vampire?" Kyle and the Priest exchanged glances. Both found it hard to believe.
Vampires needed to drink blood to survive and couldn’t move during the day. If Lilia were truly a vampire, she couldn’t have hidden for so many years without them noticing.
