Chapter 91: Thanking Their Mother

When he saw her returning, he stepped forward, doning one of his best smiles.

"Hello Ma’am." You must be Elvis and Eleanor’s mother."

He mentioned their names flawlessly as if he had known them for a very long time, courtesy of his sister in-law who had also supplied their names.

Mrs Carr stopped and assessed the young man who suddenly stopped her.

He was handsome and well dressed in a customized gray suit. He had the right bearing around him and the twinkle in his eyes when he smiled, displayed his easy going personality.

She summarized he must also have an impressive background and didn’t suspect anything.

"I’m actually their nanny, sir," she corrected politely.

"Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding," he was quick to apologize as if it was really a mistake.

As a matter of fact, he had known all along that she wasn’t their mother.

"I’m Dr Steffan Rosse, Sophia’s uncle. I recognized you from my niece’s party yesterday when you came with the children."

"That explains it then, I was wondering why an outstanding young man like you would pay any attention to me." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

A warm smile spread across her face. "How is Miss Sophia, the birthday girl?"

"I just dropped her off at school and on her behalf, I want to express our appreciation for taking the pains to bring the children yesterday."

"That wasn’t a big deal, I only came because their mother couldn’t make it," she explained.

Steffan took note of the fact that she mentioned only their mother with no reference to their father.

Most of the kids that came yesterday had come with both their parents as those parents saw the birthday as an occasion for them to get more business connections.

While the children were busy enjoying themselves in the garden, their parents were busy clicking deals and exploring potential waters to fish in.

"I would love to thank their mother for releasing them. Their presence at the party meant a great deal to Sophia."

This was actually true, considering how Sophia almost broke ties with him for allegedly driving her friends away.

"The children also enjoyed their time with her, sir. Did you say you are a doctor?" Mrs Carr asked.

Steffan wondered why she would ask him that out of the blues, but nonetheless, he gave a sincere answer.

"Yes, I’m a surgeon at Medstar hospital, here in Baltimore. Why did you ask?" he didn’t forget to add.

"I was just being curious. Most people I know would have a doctor title but in reality don’t practice medicine. So I needed to be sure which category of doctors you fell into."

Steffan laughed at her analysis as he found her witty response quite funny.

Mrs Carr also joined in the laughter without reservation.

There was no way she was going to tell the handsome doctor that she was already eyeing him as a good candidate for Kathleen who has refused to have anything to do with the opposite sex apart from business and saving people’s lives.

She believed Kathleen was like that because of the heartbreak she suffered from the father of her children but it was high time she moved on. She can’t remain single for the rest of her life and needs to give love a second chance.

As a faithful and well meaning servant that she was, she didn’t mind facilitating the process for her to settle down as soon as possible.

Now that she has confirmed that they were in the same medical profession, she guessed it wouldn’t be a problem for them to connect easily since they share the same passion.

"You’ve not said anything about my request," Steffan reminded.

"I thought I just did," Mrs Carr argued with a smile.

"Not about my being a doctor," Steffan said.

After a failed attempt to remember what he was talking about, Mrs Carr had no choice but to confess, "Sorry, I can’t remember what your request was."

Steffan sighed, "I said I wished to thank the kids’ mother."

She facepalmed herself and quickly apologized, "Pardon me sir, it was an oversight."

"So?" Steffan pressed.

"Thanking her is not going to be a problem but I’ll have to discuss it with her first to arrange a meeting with you."

"That’s understandable." Steffan said as he pulled out a card from his wallet and handed it over to her.

"Here’s my card, I’ll be waiting for your call Miss..."

"Mrs Carr, sir."

"Mrs Carr," Steffan repeated, "Do have a nice day, Mrs Carr."

"You too sir," she said before going back to the car.

That morning he didn’t have much to do so after his ward rounds, he decided to pay his good friend a courtesy call.

When he got to the car park, the scene where he met his heartthrob, who has refused to even give him a name, came back to him.

For some minutes, he indulged in it, reliving every moment again and again before calling Shawn.

This time the President was strangely not busy and had time to pick his call.

"What happened?" Steffan’s mocking laughter erupted in the earpiece.

"When has that been considered a form of greeting?" Shawn retorted from the other end of the phone

"I was wondering what happened that you picked my call so quickly. Where is Johnson?"

Shawn didn’t blame him as the person who would have answered anyone that calls him by this time of the day was naturally Johnson, but his meeting that was scheduled for this morning with the new President of Wyatt Corporations was postponed again.

"It appears you are idle this morning," Shawn threw back. He was in dire need of a little distraction at the moment but still insinuated arrogantly that he didn’t need to be disturbed.

"What do you want? Are there no sick patients in that hospital again?" Shawn teased.

"I want to see you about something, where are you?" Steffan asked, as the corners of his lips lifted in a smile when he thought about the news he was about to share.
