THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 92: I’m In Love!
Shawn could sense the excitement in Steffan’s voice on the phone. "I’m at the company. Hope it is important, if not don’t show your face here.
"I’ll be there soon." Steffan ended the call before Shawn could say anything further.
It wasn’t up to thirty minutes when the door to Shawn’s office was flung open and Steffan practically rushed into the office.
Shawn looked up in shock and the curse that was on the tip of his lips retracted when he saw who it was.
"What’s so important that you can’t control yourself? The cost of that door alone can pay your salary for a whole freaking year."
With a wave of the hand Steffan ordered, "Tell your secretary to get us a cup of coffee first." Steffan couldn’t be bothered with Shawn’s insult as he directly sat on the couch as if it was his office and Shawn the errand boy.
Shawn’s expression was frosty but he still lifted the telephone on his table and sent an order to his secretary. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Then he left his seat behind the large table to stand in front of the table.
He thrust his right hand into his pocket as he observed his friend critically.
Not long after, the secretary returned with the coffee. He placed the two cups on the table while smiling at Steffan, waiting to hear his usual compliment.
To her utter dismay, he didn’t even glance at her nor dish out any of his usual flirtatious remarks, much less a compliment like he would normally give.
He just had a dreamy look as he stared into space, a slight smile dancing at the corners of his lips.
Disappointed, she left the office in low spirits, her steps not as agile as when she had entered.
Shawn also noticed that something was off with Steffan. "You are acting too strange man, what’s with you today?" He asked, raising his cup of coffee to his mouth.
A shiver of excitement coursed through Steffan’s body and he stood up all of a sudden, spread his arms and declared at the top of his voice, "I’m in love!"
Shawn almost choked on the coffee he had just drank and in the process spilled most of it on Steffan’s face.
After wiping his mouth with the handkerchief, Steffan’s mood was not affected in the least, rather, he was grinning like a Cheshire cat, as he stared at Shawn.
"Who are you in love with?" Shawn narrowed his eyes warily as he watched Steffan approach him step by step.
"Don’t come any closer otherwise I can’t guarantee what I’ll do to you," he warned, alarm bells going off in quick successions in his ears.
As if he wasn’t the one being referred to, Steffan didn’t stop, but continued until he was standing directly in front of Shawn, a mysterious glint in his eyes.
Shawn had never been more scared of this current Steffan, he stepped back until his body hit the table.
’I know I’m irresistibly handsome but the last person I want to be attracted to me is my friend. I also love him but only as a brother. Is this how our many years of great friendship and brotherhood was going to end?’
The veins on his forehead throbbed and he gritted his teeth in agony when Steffan refused to raised his hand.
Just when he made up his mind to throw a punch in Steffan’s face to wake him up from his seemingly hypnotic state, Steffan said,
"I don’t know her name yet."
Holding on to his galloping chest, Shawn released a deep breath and his uptight nerves gradually relaxed. ’Thank goodness it’s a she.’
Seeing Shawn’s scared expression, Steffan burst out in a bout of unrestrained laughter. It
was the funniest thing he had ever seen in all his years of friendship with Shawn."
"What a waste of a man that you are," Shawn sneered, his eyes shooting daggers at Steffan. "How can you not know the name of someone you claim to love?"
A contented sigh escaped from Steffan’s lips after a good round of hearty laughter, his cheeks were flushed from the effort. "Did I scare you just now?" he asked as he wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes.
"Truth be told, you got me this time," Shawn admitted. "What was your purpose anyway?"
Steffan’s eyes still held a mischievous glint as he stared at Shawn. "None. It just came at the spur of the moment."
"If you try that next time, I promise, you wouldn’t live another day to tell the story." The mere thought of the awful ideas that flickered across his mind a few seconds back, gave him instant goosebumps.
"Dang it man, you almost gave me a heart attack," he said and grabbed the cup he had unconsciously placed back on the table and drained the remaining coffee to the last drop.
"About the love thing, was it also part of the prank?" Shawn inquired, slumping into the comfort of his couch.
"I wasn’t joking about that," Steffan’s tone turned serious as he reiterated, "I’m truly in love."
"I met her a few days back. She is the most gorgeous and enchanting goddess I’ve ever seen."
"You sound so serious, man," Shawn couldn’t help but say.
"Of course, I’m serious," Steffan stressed.
"How can it not be serious when each time I see or think about her, my heart flutters? Since the day I met her, I’ve not been able to sleep a wink without thinking about her."
"Although I have never heard her laugh, but I bet it would be music to my ear judging by how mesmerizing and peaceful her smile is, which I happened to witness once."
Once again, there was that dreamy look and Shawn had to blink several times to be sure this was really his friend who had never been serious with relationships.
"I have to congratulate you then," Shawn uttered sincerely. This was good. At last his friend had found true love.
Steffan’s lips curved in a deep smile. "Thanks buddy."
