THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 62: Definition Of A Good Surprise
"Nice to meet you Doctor." Director Robin extended his hand for a handshake, however Dr Sullivan was lost in thought and didn’t see the hand.
The resemblance between his goddess and the dignified man beside her was so striking that he felt the introduction was not necessary. Even the way they carried themselves with confidence, and the aura around them that exuded nobility was in sync.
The man before him was a true definition of God’s best creation. He had perfect features and the right bearings.
’Now I know where Dr Janice got her elegant beauty from,’ he said to himself. ’Anyone who could boast of a daughter like his goddess deserves his deepest respect.
"Brad?"
He pulled himself together after hearing Kathleen’s reminder, his lips spasming up in an embarrassed smile.
"I’m so sorry sir. Please forgive my manners. I got carried away and of course, it is a great honor to meet you sir."
He led them to the lab where the blood sample was to be collected.
After the blood sample was screened and certified ok, they proceeded to draw the amount they needed for the transfusion from Kathleen’s veins.
The process did not take long and they were done within thirty minutes.
Kathleen had to rest for some time to recover herself.
The next thing remaining was to follow the procedure to preserve the blood at the right temperature so it will be safe to transport.
"Dad, we’ll have to wait for them to get everything ready before taking it."
"Mm," Director Wyatt nodded in understanding.
"It will take some time though," Kathleen said and suddenly had an idea and took a peek at her wrist watch.
"While we’re waiting for that, we can go pick up the children from the Kindergarten. I’m sure they will be happy to see you."
"Kindergarten?" Director Wyatt raised his head, an inquisitive look forming on his face.
"They haven’t been to school since we got here, so I enrolled them in one."
Director Wyatt chuckled as he remembered something. "Elvis always felt he didn’t have to go to school. How did you manage to get him to agree to the idea?"
"I had a hard time convincing him to go and ended up using the usual strategy."
The corner of Director Robins mouth turned up in a slight smile, "Eleanor?" .
"Yes. He only agreed when he heard that someone might bully his sister." Kathleen shook her head at the memory. "In order to protect her, he had to go. Today happens to be their first day at the kindergarten."
They shared a laugh as they both left the lab.
"Eleanor will never forgive me if she finds out that you came and left without seeing her."
Director Wyatt had a doting smile on his face as he thought about his grandchildren.
"There is no way I would have left without seeing my princess."
They headed to the school to pick up the children after Kathleen instructed Dr Sullivan to monitor the process closely to ensure everything goes smoothly.
They arrived just in time for closing. The children whose parents or guardians were around were filling out to meet their parents, closely followed by the assistant teacher of the class.
The system was highly coordinated such that whoever comes to pick up the child has to go through a security check using a palm print. Once the person is cleared, the name of the child will be announced on an intercom and the child is then brought out by the assistant teacher to meet the parent.
Although the process was a bit strenuous, it was highly appreciated by the parents.
They have heard of how a child was kidnapped from a once popular school and found mutilated days later on an old factory road.
The investigation pointed to the fact that the school’s security system was porous and anyone could come and get a child as long as an ID card was presented.
After that, most schools started putting up strict security measures to avoid a repeat of the gruesome incident.
Kathleen walked up to the verification system. After being cleared, she proceeded to where the children would be handed over to her.
As soon as the gates opened, an energetic mound of flesh lunged at her. If she didn’t have fast reflexes, she would have been thrown to the ground. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Hey... take it easy, young lady." Kathleen took a step back to stabilize herself while holding on to the girl in her hands. "Did you miss me that much?"
"Yeah, yeah. I missed you beyond words." Eleanor’s large ocean blue eyes sparkled like two forget me nots."
"I can’t believe you are such a baby, Eleanor. You obviously had a good time socializing in school and I doubt you had the time to miss mummy."
Elvis walked up to join them, casting a disdainful glance at Eleanor, who he believed will soon win a Grammy Award for best actress of the year.
"How do you know I didn’t miss mummy? Were you in my heart?" Eleanor protested with an equally annoying frown.
"I only played with those girls because I didn’t want them to think I’m a snub, unlike you that carried a long face all day and no one could approach you."
"Mum, talk to your daughter to watch how she talks to her seniors."
Kathleen was speechless.
’Here they go again, always arguing but can’t stay away from each other for a day. I guess I have to step in.’
"That’s enough guys. I have a surprise for you two."
At the word "surprise" Eleanor’s eyes lit up. "I love surprises."
"What’s the surprise mum? I hope it is good this time." Elvis looked up without showing any emotion.
Kathleen stopped in her tracks, looked down at the boy beside her only to be confronted by Elvis’s emotionless little face.
"What do you mean by "you hope it is good this time?"
"The last one you gave landed me in this school and to me that is not the definition of a good surprise."
