THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 63: Grandpa Is The Strongest
Kathleen sighed and shook her head. "Forget it. I can’t even argue with you. You will know whether it’s good or not soon."
"Grandpa... screamed an excited Eleanor as soon as they got to the car park.
Standing beside a limited edition Rolls-Royce Cullinan was her beloved grandpa in whom she was well pleased.
She let go of her mother’s hand and sprinted off towards her grandfather whose hands were already spread out to receive his princess.
At the same time Elvis followed closely behind but his pace was not as fast as Eleanor’s.
Director Wyatt had a generous smile on his face as he crouched down and caught Eleanor in his hands."
"My little princess, you’ve grown so big that grandpa can’t even lift you again."
Eleanor giggled so much that her eyes disappeared into their sockets.
"No Grandpa, I haven’t grown fat. It’s Grandpa who has grown weaker."
"Is that so?"
"Yeah, yeah."
"Let’s see if grandpa is weak." He lifted her up and threw her several times in the air.
Eleanor shouted in between bouts of laughter. "I admit, Grandpa is not weak. Grandpa is the strongest."
He eventually put her down and started tickling her sides. Eleanor’s gaily laughter was like music to Director Wyatt’s ears as she wriggled from side to side.
Her laughter was so contagious that Elvis who was standing with a broad grin on his face also joined in the laughter. Eleanor’s attempt to dodge grandfather’s tickling was quite hilarious.
Director Wyatt stopped tickling her and turned to Elvis.
"And how is my genius grandson doing? Does he also think grandpa is weak?" Director Robin had a mischievous grin on his face as he approached Elvis.
"Of course not," Elvis quickly admitted and took a step backwards before it would be his turn to be picked up by his grandfather and tickled just like Eleanor.
"Although you are a teeny-weeny older, you are still the strongest," he praised.
This earned him a pinch on the cheek. "You little rascal. You are praising me and at the same time saying I am old."
The atmosphere was lively and attracted a lot of enviable looks from the other families who were also in the parking lot, however, the actors in the play were oblivious of this.
Kathleen opened the door for Eleanor while the driver opened the other side of the door and Director Wyatt got in after placing Elvis in the car.
After he got in, the children were not satisfied with the sitting arrangement and immediately changed their sitting positions.
"When did you arrive grandpa?" Eleanor asked, leaning against her grandfather on his right hand side. Elvis on his other side, held his hands as he waited for his response to Eleanor’s question.
"This afternoon my princess."
Director Wyatt’s heart bubbled with joy as he looked from one grandchild to the other. They always brighten his life each time he is around them.
A thoughtful look appeared on Eleanor’s face. "How come I didn’t see grandma?" As far as she could remember, her grandparents have always appeared together so she wondered why this time was different.
"She has something important to do in Luxembourg, so she couldn’t come with me."
"But guess what?" The corners of Director Wyatt’s eyes crinkled in a smile. "You will see her this weekend," he announced to the children’s greatest joy.
"Really. That would be splendid as we don’t have to go to school on the weekend. We will spend more time with her." Elvis said excitedly.
"I can’t wait to see Grandma," Eleanor added. "I miss her so much."
"Talking about school, Your mother told me you started school today. Now tell me, how was your first day in school?"
"School was great, Grandpa. Our teacher was so nice and good to me. I also made a new friend today."
"Why won’t she be good after giving you chocolate?" Elvis’s sneered.
"Eleanor Wyatt! What did I tell you about receiving random gifts?" Kathleen reprimanded from her seat.
Eleanor defended herself immediately. "It wasn’t a gift, it was a reward mum. And that’s because I answered a question correctly."
"Don’t they both mean the same thing?" tested Kathleen in order to know if Eleanor understood the basis on which she should receive anything from outsiders.
"No, our teacher explained the difference. A gift is what you get even without doing anything but a reward is what is given for doing something either good or bad.
"My princess is right." Director Wyatt commended with a satisfied expression.
"A gift is something that is given to you voluntarily that you don’t need to pay for. As a matter of fact, you don’t need to do anything special to be gifted with something.
"However rewards are earned and come as a result of what one does."
"That is why it’s advisable to always do the right thing and live an honest life because goodness has its own reward. On the other hand, evildoers have to face punishment for the wrongs they do."
Elvis listened quietly by the side, taking note of the fact that he needs to work hard if he wants to be rewarded.
Taking a look at the silent Elvis beside him, his grandfather asked, "How about you Elvis, how was school today?"
"Not bad," he said nonchalantly, "although most of what was taught were things I already knew."
Holding onto the word most, Kathleen probed, "So what are the few things they taught that you didn’t know about?"
All of a sudden, Elvis’s expression turned sour and he refused to speak. It was like a veil was cast over his face.
Sensing something was wrong, Kathleen resorted to get Eleanor’s help.
"Baby, what happened in school today? Is there something I need to know?"
After thinking it over for a few seconds, Eleanor did not remember anything strange happening in school. "Nothing happened mummy."
She had barely finished speaking when it all came back to her. "Something did happen but..." she trailed off.
"Uh-huh, go on," encouraged Kathleen, "What happened?"
"Eleanor!" Elvis’ voice was sharp and cold as he glared at Eleanor.
