THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 58: A Beautiful Heart
"Nothing, Goddess..." Shawn raised his two hands in mock surrender. "You can choose whoever you want to work with."
"If there is nothing else Dr Sullivan, I would like to take my leave now." Kathleen pretended as if she did not hear the way Shawn addressed her and sauntered off, without even sparing Shawn a glance.
Her perfectly curved hips swayed seductively in her fitted knee length pencil skirt suit.
At the same time, the temperature in the office immediately dropped several degrees and Dr Sullivan suddenly felt his office was no longer safe for human habitation.
"Please if you’ll excuse me President Hudson, there is a patient I need to check on now."
Like Kathleen, he didn’t wait for Shawn’s response but outrightly scurried out of the office.
Shawn: "...."
He glared at the back of the fleeing doctor and for once couldn’t use his power as a president to do anything to him. He shook his head and strolled out, closing the door as if he was the new owner of the office.
It was 1pm by the time Kathleen got to Wyatt Corporations. She waved at Maya, the receptionist who blushed shyly from her seat. She wasn’t expecting such treatment from the President, not to mention the warm smile that accompanied the greeting.
As soon as the elevator door closed, a staff member approached Maya.
But before she could say anything, Maya quickly put out her left hand, with the palm facing her colleague and a "stop right there" frown.
"I can smell a strong gossiping stench oozing from your direction. What do you have to say this time around?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Nuela Gales, working in the utility department and popularly known as Information Box by her colleagues, was not the least affected by Maya’s attitude. "How can someone be this beautiful?"
With sparkling eyes, she crossed her arms over her chest. "Not only has God blessed her with physical beauty, she also has a beautiful heart."
"You are right on that one," Maya nodded as she sorted out the files before her.
"You finally said something that can be considered true for the first time in ages."
Nuela retorted with a snort, "You know I always say the truth except that I give it a little embellishment here and there."
That attracted a laugh from Maya. "Although Ms Wyatt is the President, she doesn’t have any of those "richer than thou, high and mighty" attitude that people in her position love to display. She treats everyone equally and with respect. I admire her a lot."
"Not only you, can’t you see the way President Jason dotes on her. They are one of the coolest siblings I ever saw."
"Who wouldn’t dote on such an outstanding sister." Maya made a shush sign and answered the phone that just rang.
"Hello, Maya Wembley on the line... I got it Sir. Yes Sir.I will deliver your message as soon as he arrives."
Maya had barely dropped the phone on its handle when Nuela continued from where she left off.
"Do you know that, the first day Ms Wyat came to the office, that spoilt daughter from the Beazell family tried to spread her ugly peacock feathers but they were mercilessly clipped off by President Jason."
A chortle escaped her mouth. "You needed to have seen President Jason cutting her to size that day. He gave her a bitter lesson that I’m sure she has not been able to recover from."
Nuela’s eyes sparkled in excitement as she narrated the incident, occasionally breaking off to cover her mouth to suppress the laughter threatening to burst forth.
"It was such a humiliating sight as she cried and begged but was unceremoniously carried away by the guards. Unfortunately for her, that day, the reception was filled up with people. Do you know what happened to her thereafter?"
Before Maya could respond Nuela burst out laughing, "She knelt in front of the office building and her voice was heard two streets away as she bawled out her eyes for hours until her assistant talked some sense into her and took her home."
"Is that so?" Maya supported her chin in her hand and asked, with a sneer on her face.
"Exactly so."
The mockery in Maya’s tone was not detected by the excited Nuela who was operating on "continuous Play mode" at the moment.
"I would have loved to click a few pictures but unfortunately I wasn’t on duty that fateful day." Her lips turned down in regret.
"I couldn’t forgive myself for days for missing out on such a groundbreaking drama."
She paused, drew her lower lip between her teeth and with a thoughtful expression, pointed at Maya, "You must have witnessed everything that day, right? I heard it happened right here in the reception."
"It’s good you managed to remember I was in the company that day," Maya hissed loudly. "You even narrated the whole incident more than an eyewitness. You sure are talented."
"I know right? I’m damn good."
"Yeah, you should take a course in Exaggeration Technology."
"Don’t think I don’t know you are mocking me," retorted Nuela, "Anyways, I don’t care."
She flipped her hand in dismissal and picked up the bottle of water she had dropped on the table earlier on.
"It so happens that my lunch break is over, I better head back to my office and leave some ungrateful friends," she snorted and strolled off to her office, mumbling some words only she could hear.
Meanwhile Kathleen sat behind a large table in her office listening to the report from Ariel, her assistant.
"The chairman of Mason Group called earlier to know if the appointment with him will still hold this weekend. I told him I’ll confirm with you and get back to him later."
"You don’t need to call him, I’ll call him personally to apologize because I won’t be free this weekend. Something urgent came up that will require most of my time for the next one month."
