THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 57: Kathleen Couldn’t Possibly Compare With Dr Janice
Shawn paused his action of brushing back his hair and looked at his mother’s angry countenance reflecting in the floor to ceiling mirror in his room, "Why do you think it has anything to do with me?"
A deep scowl settled on his face, contrasting with the elegant picture presented in the mirror.
"Are you not the one that applied for the tour and have been singing in my ear every single day how your friends are not ready to invest in the relationship because they refused to go on this tour with you?"
Joanne quickly looked away from the mirror, but the faint flush that spread over her face did not escape Shawn’s piercing gaze.
"Although I would have loved to go on this tour, your grandmother’s health needs close monitoring." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"Mom, when have you been so concerned about monitoring Nana’s health? You only check on her at your convenience. There are people who take care of her, you only get updates. So whether you are there or not, it doesn’t change anything."
Joanne felt like a bucket of water had been poured on her because what Shawn said was the truth and the last bit of anger she had, completely evaporated. She could only come up with a flustered, "Whatever."
Seeing that he had her where he wanted, the corners of Shawn’s mouth twitched in a slight smile.
"So you see mom, as the good son that I am, I only helped you pull a few strings but how was I to know that everything will happen at the same time?"
He glanced at his phone ringing on the table but didn’t pick up. "It only means that this is the perfect timing for you to go on that tour. You have to take advantage of this rare opportunity. Who knows when everyone will be free again to go out together?"
He picked up his phone that had started ringing again and walked out of the room, when he was about swiping the screen to answer the call, it ended.
"Good son indeed," sneered Joanne who was following closely behind. She knew without a doubt that he did all these because he didn’t want her to interfere with his interactions with Kathleen, ’but I also have my own plans cut out.’
"You have to promise me one thing if I must go," she threw at Shawn’s straight back.
Shawn stopped and without turning around asked,
"And what is that?" He knew she had already succumbed and her request was just a formality.
"You have to convince Dr Janice to come so that she will be the one to handle your grandmother’s treatment. I can only rest assured that it is not Kathleen that is in charge of your Nana’s treatment."
A tense look flickered across his eyes which quickly disappeared when he remembered that his mom didn’t know that Kathleen and Dr Janice were one and the same person. "I will do as you say."
"Really?" Joanne hurried over to stand in front of Shawn. She wasn’t expecting him to agree so easily, but come to think of it, Shawn should also know that Dr Janice is way better and Kathleen couldn’t possibly compare with Dr Janice.
Although she was impressed by Kathleen’s skills when she came to the house, it will be over her dead body before she lets others know that that gold digger is so impressive.
Shawn bent his head and sent some messages out, a few minutes later, his phone screen popped up.
"Mom, Dr Janice has agreed to come, but she has a condition before coming." Shawn had to quickly come up with something since he didn’t actually contact Kathleen.
"What is her condition?"
"She wants the house to be completely evacuated, leaving only the patient, a minder and only one family member inorder not to expose her identity and she will be coming over with her own team."
Joanne had her doubts, but when she remembered that Dr Janice’s identity has always been mysterious, she discarded them and agreed to the arrangement.
"Can I go now? Steffan is waiting to see me."
Joanne waved him off and scurried off to her room to pack.
’Wow, that was not as hard as I imagined.’ He didn’t know how he was able to come up with that explanation on the spur of the moment.
Seeing that Shawn has been silent with a silly smile plastered on his face for close to a minute, Kathleen nudged him, "President Hudson, what are you thinking about?"
Shawn suddenly wiped the smile off his face and resumed his calm expression. "Nothing serious."
Dr Sullivan was speechless. For the few times he has interacted with President Hudson before his goddess came along, he can count on one hand how many times he had seen him smile. But he has noticed that he has been smiling quite often these few days.
Kathleen raised an inquisitive brow but didn’t probe further.
Shifting her attention from Shawn who has been behaving like someone possessed by some strange spirits today, she instructed Dr Sullivan.
"Please make arrangements for the nurses to take care of Old Mrs Hudson to be transferred to the Hudson Manor this afternoon. They have to monitor her and report anything they notice without delay. No detail must be overlooked."
"I will also need the nutritionist we found to be sent along with them. He will be in charge of preparing her meals and any medicine that needs to be taken as soon as they are prepared."
Dr Sullivan nodded in agreement. "I will inform Dr Steffan to contact him right away. He can even come around if you want to meet him first."
"No need for that, I will see him when treatment commences. If there is anything he needs to know, I’ll relay it through you."
"Why is he a man?" Shawn asked all of a sudden.
"What is wrong with him being a man?" Kathleen had known Shawn long enough to understand what that flippant question meant.
