THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 271: Are You Sure Daddy Is Alright?
"We will be waiting for your call then, and don’t forget to fulfill your promise," Elvis instructed before ending the call.
"Are you sure daddy is alright, brother?" Eleanor couldn’t help but feel that something was off.
"What could possibly go wrong with him? He should be fine, I guess. He’s just probably busy with work. But I’m sure he will call us when he is less busy."
"Really?"
"Of course," he assured. He didn’t want his sister to dwell on the matter for long, if not, the next thing that might come to her mind was if their father doesn’t love them enough and has abandoned them so soon.
"What do we do now, brother?"
"Wait."
"What did you say?"
"I mean all we should do now is wait for daddy to call us," Elvis explained.
’And pray that that man remembers to inform dad that we called,’ he added beneath his breath.
People like that are usually so busy that they tend to forget the most important things like telling their boss that their children called.
He wished this one would prove to be different.
To distract his sister whose face was still gloomy, he suggested they played hide and seek in the garden.
Eleanor’s eyes instantly lit up when his brother made the suggestion and within minutes the garden was echoing with their laughter as they hid and discovered each other from their chosen hideous.
"Elvis," Eleanor called cheerfully.
"Shussh," he placed a finger on his lips as he encircled a lone butterfly that he had been trying to catch. It was rare to find one flying around these days since it was late autumn.
"Not again," he wailed as the butterfly escaped just when he thought he would finally catch it.
"I’m sorry brother," Eleanor apologized.
"It’s not your fault. Maybe it doesn’t like me. What did you want to say to me?" he asked, wiping his hands on his thick coat.
Eleanor had a thoughtful expression which was soon cleared as she said.
"I was wondering what fun it would be when daddy eventually comes to live with us here and we would be playing hide and seek with him in the garden."
"Your imagination is so wide, sister. We are not even sure dad had raised the issue with mom’s godmother."
"But it’s okay. That’s what little girls do all day long," he said with an understanding expression.
"What do you mean?" Eleanor shot back, feeling Elvis’s words were more of an insult than complimentary.
"They are always thinking about things that will never be."
"Whatever. But I’m sure daddy will come live here with us whether you believe it or not," she pouted. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"I also want him to come, but I don’t think it will be anytime soon, if he is busy running after other things and forgetting about his family."
"How do you know he forgot about his family? Maybe he traveled to see godmother instead of calling her on the phone."
Elvis’s brow furrowed as he considered that possibility. "You may be right."
"Elvis, Eleanor, you are both needed in the main house."
They both turned to the entrance to the garden where Mrs Carr was calling them from.
"Who is asking about us, Mrs Carr? Is mummy back or Uncle Jason?" Elvis asked as they met up with Mrs Carr by the small gate leading out of the garden.
"No, darling. Come and see for yourself."
As the children entered the living room, seated elegantly on the couch were none other than their grandparents.
"Grandpa, grandma," they yelled and flung themselves into their waiting arms.
"You didn’t tell us you were coming," Elvis said, a smile spreading over his face.
"That’s because we wanted to surprise you two darlings," Stacy said as she placed a kiss on each of their cheeks.
"I love surprises, grandma," Eleanor chimed, a wide grin spreading over her face.
"How are you darling?" Director Wyatt asked, ruffling their heads.
"We are fine," Eleanor answered for both of them. Guess what grandma."
Stacy smiled affectionately at her adorable granddaughter. "You know grandma is not good at guessing. Tell me darling, what happened that got you this excited.
"Mummy took us to see our daddy. We know who daddy is now!" Eleanor announced in a loud voice.
"Really!" Stacy exclaimed, pretending to be hearing the news for the first time.
Eleanor’s eyes twinkled as she nodded in confirmation. "Yes grandma,"
"And how is your father? Do you like him?" Director Wyatt asked.
From the expression on Eleanor’s face and the softness in Elvis’ eyes, he didn’t need to be told what the answer was.
"We love him grandpa!"
"Speak for yourself," Elvis siad calmly.
"What! Don’t you dare pretend that you don’t love him. Who was it that was angry when daddy didn’t pick our call just now?" Eleanor revealed before realizing she had said something she shouldn’t.
"Eleanor!l" Elvis yelled. "Can you not say everything that comes to your mouth?"
"What did I..." she trailed off and suddenly covered her mouth with her soft palm when she realized what she had done.
Her little action was so amusing that both Stacy and Director Wyatt were forced to laugh.
"It’s alright, darling. You don’t need to hide anything from us. We know about your daddy and are actually here to help your daddy."
"Really, grandma, grandpa?" It was Elvis’s turn to be excited.
"Yes," affirmed Director Wyatt with an affectionate smile.
"Yayyyy!" Eleanor screamed.
"What are we celebrating? And why was I not informed there is something special to celebrate?" Jason’s voice sounded from the door as he stepped into the house.
"Uncle Jason, you don’t know this but Grandma and Grandpa want to help daddy woo mummy back," Eleanor announced jubilantly.
"Stacy: "...." "How come I don’t remember when I said that?"
Director Wyatt: "..."
"Jason: "What?"
Even Elvis could not believe his ears. Was his sister’s case this hopeless?
"It’s splendid, right?" Eleanor beamed, clearly oblivious of the shock her words had thrown everyone into.
"It is indeed splendid," Jason laughed after recovering from his shock.
Casting a glance at his befuddled parents, he added. "However, I wonder how they are going to go about that."
