Chapter 270: You Are Not Our Daddy.

Elvis snapped out of his thoughts and stared blankly at his mother.

"What did you say, mom?"

"You guys need to get back to class, so you don’t miss out on so much, I can see your teacher by the door, I guess she is waiting for you." Kathleen said as she drew them in for a hug.

"Bye, mummy," the children chorused.

"We will see you at home, mummy," Elvis added as they were leaving with Ms Richards, their class teacher.

"Definitely," Kathleen smiled as she watched until their two little backs disappeared from sight.

"Thanks so much Ma’am for allowing me to see them at such short notice," Kathleen said to the head teacher.

"It’s okay. I understand your desire to see them after being away for a few days," the head teacher said with a smile. "It was a pleasant surprise for the kids I must say and it shows your concern as a loving parent."

’Some parents wouldn’t be bothered with such trivials and take it for granted when they’ve been away from their children for a long time,’ she added inwardly.

"See you this weekend during the meeting, ma," Kathleen said with a smile as she exited the office.

"That’s alright. Be safe on your way, ma’am," the head teacher said as she stood up to see Kathleen off. She was impressed with the little but quiet family, especially the children.

They were well behaved and if not for the close resemblance between the little boy and President Hudson, one wouldn’t know they were from one of the wealthiest families in Baltimore as they never used it as an avenue to bully the other children or cause problems for the teachers.

She sat back to check on what was happening in the classes from her CCTV cameras when Kathleen asked her not to bother seeing her off.

"I think we should give dad a call,’ Elvis said to Eleanor the moment they got home from school.

Eleanor nodded vigorously. "I also thought about that. But that will be after we are done with our assignment."

"Of course, hurry up and finish yours. I’m almost done with mine."

"Ok," Eleanor said as she hurried to complete her assignment.

"Done!" she announced about twenty five minutes later.

She had been working on creating a collage of her favorite animal with colorful buttons, beads and coins.

While Elvis assembled an airplane from newspaper clippings, rock particles and some theater tickets that his uncle had gotten for him.

He stood to admire their works and nodded in satisfaction.

"You did a great job, Eleanor," he praised.

"Thank you, brother," Eleanor smiled brightly. It was rare for his brother to freely give her some accolades. "Yours is equally beautiful," she remarked, as her eyes widened at the masterpiece her brother had assembled.

Elvis grabbed his sister’s hand. "Let’s go to the garden where no one would be able to disturb us."

"Why do you think daddy would suddenly travel without informing us?" Eleanor asked as Elvis was dialing the number.

"Maybe it is an urgent work matter, but still that doesn’t excuse his behavior," Elvis said as he waited for the call to connect.

"Hello."

A frown appeared at the same time on both Elvis and Eleanor’s faces.

"You are not our daddy. Who are you and what are you doing with our daddy’s phone?"

Eleanor didn’t like the current development. It’s been over two days now and she hadn’t heard from their father, and when she thought she could finally hear his voice he was not the one that answered the call.

"Good evening, Miss Eleanor. I’m Mr Johnson, your father’s personal assistant," Johnson replied from the other end of the phone.

He had just returned to the hospital and was headed to the emergency ward when he got the children’s call.

Since he was with his boss’s phone he decided to pick the call. Little did he know he was going to face a panel of impatient kids.

’Why won’t they speak like five year olds for once?’ Talking to them was even more energy consuming than relating with their father. At least with their father, he could easily predict what was on his mind and act accordingly.

"Good evening sir, but you have not answered our question, why is our daddy’s phone with you," Elvis asked.

He was finding it so hard to understand why each time they wanted to contact their father, it was always the annoying assistant that would show up first.

"Sorry, Master Elvis, but your father can’t pick his calls for now."

"Really? Why is that so? Is he in a meeting? And how long will the meeting last because we have something important to discuss with him." Eleanor asked from the side.

Johnson was lost for words. How was he going to explain to these two kids that it will take a long time, probably days before they will be able to speak with their father without letting them know the true situation of things.

He wished their mother was around to handle things, but on second thoughts, the kids might not want their mother to be aware of this call.

"Are you still there, Mister?"

"Yes, master Elvis," Johnson responded to the cold tone from the other side. "Do you have a message for him? You can drop it with me and I will relay it to him."

"We want to speak to him directly not through a third ...," Elvis

"Uncle Johnson," Eleanor’s honeyed voice, cut through Elvis’s speech.

"Can you please take the phone to where our daddy is? It is very urgent we speak to him now."

Johnson’s heart melted at the way Eleanor’s voice sounded all of a sudden, but unfortunately, there was nothing he could do to help her.

"I’m truly sorry, Miss Eleanor, your father cannot speak to you now. I will give you a call when it is convenient for him to speak with you."

"Ok" she said dejectedly. It appears daddy is truly not available.
