Chapter 199: First to Break a Limb

The moment Cain’s command cracked through the air, the male lunged. He came at her with brute strength, a straight punch aimed to end it quickly.

Theo barely had time to register it before she moved on instinct, dropping low and twisting aside just before his fist tore through the space where her head had been a second earlier.

She quickly swept her leg out, aiming for his knee but he jumped it easily and countered with a backhand that caught her shoulder instead of her face. Pain exploded through her arm, and she staggered back two steps.

The crowd hissed.

"Stay down, Luna," he sneered, already advancing again, "This doesn’t have to—"

She grabbed a fistful of sand from the ring and flung it straight into his eyes.

He roared back in surprise, hands flying up to his eyes to block the dust just long enough.

That was all she needed.

Theo drove forward, slamming her shoulder into his chest. It didn’t knock him down, but it knocked him off balance. She followed with a brutal elbow to his ribs, then another, and then came a knee that cracked into his thigh.

He snarled, his wolf flashing behind his eyes, and then backhanded her hard.

The impact sent her skidding across the ring. Her palms scraped raw against stone as she caught herself, her breathing harsh.

*Get up.*

She forced herself to her feet just as he charged again, this time shifting halfway. His claws tore through his fingertips, and his muscles grew bigger as his strength doubled.

Before she could dodge, the male had slammed into her. Theo flew across the ring until her spine hit the ring’s edge. Pain screamed up her back as he pinned her there, his forearm crushing against her throat.

"You should’ve begged," he growled, "I’ll break your arm and be done with it,"

She didn’t need to think. Her knee shot up between his legs, and the sound he made from impact wasn’t dignified.

He reeled back with a howl, and Theo surged forward again, wrapping both hands around his arm before he could recover. She twisted hard, using her whole body to try to break it.

She heard something pop, but it wasn’t enough.

He roared angrily and swung his free hand, claws slicing across her side. White-hot pain tore through her ribs, and she cried out despite herself, blood already soaking into her leathers. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

She didn’t let go.

Instead, she stepped inside his reach and slammed her forehead into his nose.

The crunch of cartilage was heard as he stumbled back with stunned eyes, blood pouring down his face.

That was the last he could endure, and she watched as he instantly transformed in front of her.

His pants ripped into shreds, bones cracked and muscles realigned until he stood in his full glory. His claws curved like hooked knives, and his eyes burned molten gold.

The crowd roared. Most of the Males had gathered to watch.

And then, he came at her with inhuman speed.

She barely got her arms up before he slammed into her, the impact hurling her across the ring. She hit the stone hard, and her breath exploded out of her lungs as pain snapped behind her eyes.

*Get up, Theo!*

She rolled just as claws raked through the space where her neck had been a second ago, stone shattering instead.

She scrambled to her feet, quickly putting distance between them.

The face of his wolf smirked, "Still standing?" He taunted, "Good. I wanted this to hurt,"

He swiped and she ducked. However, she wasn’t fast enough to keep up with his increased speed.

His claws tore across her ribs again, and White-hot agony ripped through her side. She screamed again, tears stinging the back of her eyes.

The wolf didn’t stop.

He grabbed her by the throat and lifted her up till her feet left the ground.

She clawed at his wrist as she choked, her vision beginning to darken as he slammed her into the ring floor again and again, each impact cracking stone and rattling her bones.

"BREAK," he snarled, driving his knee into hers.

Something popped, and pain flared up and down her legs.

The crowd was screaming now, cheering for more blood.

In the midst of it, Cain said nothing.

The male then dragged her upright by her hair and threw her again. She hit the wall of the ring and slid down it, her ears ringing.

*Get up, Theo* She heard Seraphina yelling somewhere in her head, *He doesn’t plan to break a limb that quickly, he’s torturing you first. Get up now!*

Theo spat blood and forced herself upright on shaking legs, glaring at him through her bloody eyes.

"You done?" The wolf jeered, stalking toward her, "Because I’m just warming up,"

She lunged first, this time low enough to grab his leg and twist again with everything she had. It didn’t take him down, but it staggered him long enough for her to scramble up his back.

She wrapped her arm around his neck and squeezed, using leverage instead of strength.

He howled and threw himself backwards.

Her back hit the ground with a sickening crack. The air left her lungs in a broken sob.

Before she could move, he was on her, claws pinning her wrists above her head, and his teeth snapping inches from her face.

"This is where you beg," he growled.

Despite everything, Theo smiled.

It was small, bloody and somewhat maniacal.

"I don’t beg," she whispered, then bit him hard.

Right into the junction where his jaw met his throat.

He roared in shock, jerking back just enough for her to rip her hand free and jam her fingers into his eye.

The male howled and tumbled back, clawing at his face.

She didn’t waste the opening.

Theo surged up, grabbed his already-injured arm, and slammed it against the ring post.

Once.

Twice.

He howled even harder than before.

She braced her foot against his knee, locked her grip as tightly as her strength could carry and pulled.

The crack that followed was thunderous.

His bone snapped clean off, bent the wrong way as the wolf collapsed in the middle of the ring with a scream that silenced the entire grounds.

Theo grabbed the strong ropes for support before she could also collapse. She was bleeding badly from her chin, her side, and her knuckles.

The male writhed on the ground, clutching his shattered arm and he slowly changed back to his human form.

Then, she turned, and her gaze found Cain.

With a deep breath, she let go of the ropes and walked past the broken wolf, every limp a victory carved out of pain, with blood, sweat and fury clinging to her like a crown.

"You said first to break a limb," She said hoarsely. "I believe that’s mine,"

Cain stared at the fallen warrior, then at her.

She stepped out of the ring without asking permission, walking past Cain so close her shoulder brushed his chest.

"Next time," She muttered as she passed him, "Pick someone better,"
