When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds-Chapter 106: Chi Mo 60
"I... I can do Ms. Chi’s makeup!" The streamers who had been eavesdropping immediately rushed over. ’After all, getting to collaborate with Chi Mo is a huge win for them, right?’
Chi Mo tried to protest one last time. "The dance costume..."
A platform executive also joined the effort to persuade her. "Ms. Chi, you can go to the dressing room first and see if there are any suitable costumes. The stream doesn’t start for another two hours. Whatever kind of dance costume you want, Ms. Chi, we can find it."
Worn down, Chi Mo had no choice but to relent. "Then I’ll go take a look?"
The moment Chi Mo relented, Gao Jing immediately followed her. Since she had come with Chi Mo, it was only natural for her to stick by her side. Besides, a chance to watch Chi Mo dance up close was a rare opportunity indeed.
Inside the dressing room, the streamers scheduled to perform were preparing for their acts. On a nearby clothing rack hung all sorts of costumes: Hanfu, short skirts, and more, a dazzling array at first glance.
Chi Mo gave them a quick once-over. "None of these are right. They don’t fit the dance I have in mind."
The kind of outfits that would expose her arms and legs the moment she started dancing were definitely not what Chi Mo was looking for. She wanted to perform the most alluring dance in the most modest clothes. ’To her, less clothing didn’t equal allure.’
She was aiming for an allure that wasn’t common, a glamour that wasn’t garish.
The staffer in charge looked at Chi Mo, realizing she was being serious and not just making an excuse about the costumes. He froze for a second. "There is one historical-style outfit here, but it’s not made for dancing. Ms. Chi, would you like to see if it works for you?"
As he spoke, he pulled a garment bag out from a corner. Inside was a pink, traditional-style outfit. Chi Mo took a look. "This... is custom-made, isn’t it? The fabric and craftsmanship look exquisite. Who would be responsible if it got damaged?"
The staffer was candid. "It is. My friend’s younger sister had it custom-made. I was actually supposed to deliver it to her tonight. If it works for you, Ms. Chi, please wear it for your performance. I’ll just order another one for the little girl."
Chi Mo hesitated. "That doesn’t seem right. It’s wrong to take something another person cherishes..."
"No, no, no! How could this be considered taking something someone else loves? Momo, I’m your biggest fan! I had this made especially for you!" Before Chi Mo could finish, a young girl with pigtails rushed in from outside.
She scampered over, stopping in front of Chi Mo and giving her an incredibly sweet smile. "Momo, please wear this. You’ll look absolutely beautiful in it!"
"You... you’re Tangtang?" Chi Mo stared at the girl for a few moments. "The young lady who’s always sending me DMs?"
"Mhm, that’s me!" Shen Jintang nodded eagerly. "Momo, you know who I am? I... I’m so happy! I came across the design for this outfit by chance, and I just thought you’d look amazing dancing in it! I can’t believe you actually showed up today!"
The young fan’s enthusiasm warmed Chi Mo’s heart. "In that case, I won’t stand on ceremony. To show my gratitude, let me treat you to dinner after the event is over."
"Okay! It’s a deal! I want a picture together and an autograph, too!" Shen Jintang’s eyes lit up as she immediately started listing her requests.
Chi Mo agreed instantly. "No problem."
With the costume, makeup, and styling all sorted out, Chi Mo decided not to return to the main hall. Instead, she stayed in the dressing room to focus on preparing for her dance. She had already given her backing track to the staff.
Gao Jing held up her phone as she talked to Chi Mo. "Word is out that you’re going to dance at the event. My stream is packed right now. So many people have tuned into my channel just to see you."
She was holding one phone for her own stream and watching the main event’s broadcast on another. She had it all figured out.
Chi Mo closed her eyes, letting a beauty streamer do her makeup and hair. "You think so? I’m just a regular dancer. There are so many huge streamers here today; everyone must have come for them."
Gao Jing rolled her eyes. "Do you have any idea how low-profile you usually are? You’ve never once participated in a platform event. People have been dying of curiosity about you for ages."
"How many dancers on this platform have performed at the Spring Festival Gala? And you’re debuting a new dance, no less. Of course people are going to be curious!"
Chi Mo said, "Is that so? I’m just worried I’m not prepared enough. What if my performance isn’t good?"
Shen Jintang, sitting on Chi Mo’s other side, chimed in. "No way! Momo, even when you’re just dancing casually, you’re breathtaking. So many people try to break down your choreography. Your moves look simple, but achieving the same effect you do is incredibly hard."
Chi Mo couldn’t help but laugh, then quickly apologized to the makeup artist. "I’m so sorry..."
The makeup artist laughed as well. "It’s alright. I’m mostly working on your hair right now. I have to use a lot of pins, otherwise, it won’t stay put once you start dancing."
Chi Mo replied, "Use as many as you need. The movements in this dance are pretty big."
Her past dances had always been ethereal and graceful, but this time, Chi Mo wanted to try something different. It was boring being monotonous, and she was ready for a change.
The makeup artist smiled. "Alright, I promise I’ll make sure it’s pinned down tight."
The four of them chatted casually, and other streamers would occasionally come over to talk. Chi Mo welcomed them all. ’Everyone having fun together, what could be better? Besides, they were all gorgeous girls. Getting everyone together was a treat for the eyes and a joy, so why bother with petty drama?’
Once her look was complete, Chi Mo didn’t just wait backstage. She went out to the main hall to watch the other performances. The platform’s streamers were a multi-talented bunch, and those who dared to perform at an event like this were bound to have some serious skills.
One streamer, in particular, performed a sword dance, and Chi Mo applauded enthusiastically from the audience. "She’s so cool! A perfect blend of strength and grace. Just beautiful."
While she was watching the show, she had no idea how many people were watching her. In fact, this was her first public appearance since her "beauty value" had been maxed out. It was still the same face, but somehow, she looked completely different.
"Everyone used to say Chi Mo wasn’t photogenic, but she looks great on camera now."
"I think it’s the glow of fame. In any case, she’s definitely different than she was before."
"She seems even more beautiful."
"Not quite. It’s more her aura, isn’t it? She seems more approachable, like she’s been put through a soft-focus filter."
Of course Chi Mo wasn’t watching the stream. She was completely engrossed in the performances, clapping at times, smiling at others. When she got excited, her eyes would sparkle, making her look incredibly vibrant—a far cry from the cold and aloof persona Tan You had on her show.
With two acts to go, a coordinator came over to get her. "Ms. Chi, you’re on in about ten minutes. Shall we head backstage to get ready?"
Chi Mo stood up immediately. "Alright. Thank you."
The moment she moved, Gao Jing and Shen Jintang were right behind her. Gao Jing kept her phone aimed at Chi Mo, streaming her journey backstage, while Shen Jintang clutched Chi Mo’s bag, playing the part of a diligent little assistant.
After an anxious wait from the audience, it was finally time for Chi Mo’s performance. As the countdown began, Chi Mo stepped onto the stage, a round fan tucked into the sash at the small of her back.
