Chapter 78: Mega Youngsters.

"Hired friend? Who hired you?"

"Your father, of course. Who else would hire a friend for you?" Cyprian stared at the girl like she had lost her ability to think. Even though she knew she was only a year older that Shikera, she could not help thinking her brain was several years older.

"So," Shikera started, "You accepted to be my friend in return for money?"

Cyprian shrugged her shoulders, as if to say it’s not a big deal.

"I rejected the money, because I really wanted to be your friend... but then, it’s unavoidable for me to take something from your father," she said, her voice loud enough for anyone passing outside the door to hear.

"Don’t lie to me."

"I am not. Your father said if I am to fulfill my duties to the best of my ability, I have to attend the same school as you do, except you don’t want me to," the older girl asked, her eyebrows raised in question.

"It’s alright. Where is daddy?"

"In his study, and with my uncle so I will say they don’t want to be disturbed," Cyprian replied.

At that, Shikera went quiet as she walked into her closet to change out of her uniform. When she came back out, her new friend was already dressed too, in the clothes which was lying on Shikera’s bed earlier while standing with a smug smile on her face.

"Fits me well, right?"

Without waiting for Shikera’s reply, she continued, "Why don’t we go for a walk through the estate? We can also visit the beach too."

Not wanting to bore her new friend, Shikera nod her head to agree. The elated Cyprian hurried over to her, and pulling her out the door, it took no time before the two girls were out of the mansion.

As they were about to step out of the large gate, the head of the guards walked towards them and handed them facemasks.

"The Mega youngsters are all out for a walk at this moment, please refrain from talking to any of them and keep this mask over your face no matter what."

At his instructions, the two girls nodded and fastened the mask across their face. With that, they walked out into the estate’s paved pathway.

Shikera laughed out loud, even though the sound seemed strange to her ears. She just couldn’t help it when she had a friend like Cyprian with her, who was bratty when speaking to her but putty when talking about her crush.

Right now, they were skipping class and in the gym’s storage room while hiding behind a stack of balls and watching the student athletes working out in the gym. Though Shikera could spot Leonard, she didn’t shout his name but roamed her eyes around the area to look for Cyprian’s crush.

"Louis!"

Hurriedly, she ducked behind the supplies of instruments which was placed in her hiding place.

"Rian! He looked this way!" She whispered to her friend who was just a few metres away.

"Is that so?!"

"It’s not a lie," Shikera replied, bursting into laughter again at the expression on the face of her lovestruck friend.

"Okay. You can go to class, I can do the rest alone," Cyprian gave her a nod, which Shikera returned before standing up to her feet and running out of the storage room.

As soon as her friend was out, Cyprian took a deep breath in and stood up to her feet. She walked out to the middle of the gym and with closed eyes and a box of chocolates I’m hand, she screamed,

"I HAVE A CRUSH ON YOU, LUCIAN LOUIS!"

Back in the classroom, Shikera dabbed her handkerchief on her forehead, wiping away the sweat that accumulated from staying in that airless room.

Entering the class from the back door, gaze went straight to her seat which was positioned in the middle of the class and her brows furrowed. What was that sitting on her desk?

Her legs quickened towards her chair and when she got there, her eyes widened when she saw it really was a box of chocolate. She looked around the class for who might have put it there, and her eyes stopped when she saw Skyler McCallum and two other girls. The trio were staring at her with...was that an apologetic look in their eyes?!

Without leaving her seat, Shikera raised the box of chocolates and asked, "Did you leave this here?"

"Yeah, we did," Skyler replied, and the three girls approached Shikera.

"Kera...I know I was wrong for what I said and I have really been wanting to apologize. But then, you have been so busy with your new friend that I didn’t get the chance."

Without giving Shikera a chance to reply, one of the remaining two girls, the one who was also Skyler’s gossip mate from the toilet continued, "Kai later confessed to me that she wanted to be your friend but was scared that you would reject her, because of your family background."

Averting her gaze from their piercing eyes, Shikera gave a slight nod. She didn’t want anyone to be privy to that very private want of hers, the need to have more friends, as many as she could.

She looked up, lifting her chin up as she spoke, "Was my face that scary for you to be scared before you could even know me?"

Skylar chuckled, "It was really my fault, Kera. Forgive me, hmmm?"

Stalling for a few minutes, Shikera finally gave a nod, causing the three girls to jump up squealing.

"Yes! That chocolate is the token of my appreciation and friendship."

Shikera looked down at the box of the said chocolate, remembering that she had just taken the week’s ration of junk foods just a day ago. Also, she wasn’t allowed to eat just any chocolate.

There should be no problem if I take it home and give it to Noah, right?, Shikera thought, prepared to keep the box in her locker.

"No, Kera!" Skyler hurriedly stopped her.

"What?"

"Let’s all take a bar of the chocolate and eat, all four of us," she suggested.

Shikera shook her head, reluctant to explain to the girls in front of her. However, they were now friends so shouldn’t it be alright? Coming to a firm decision, she decided to answer.

"Uhm...I’m not allowed to take chocolate or any other..."

Skyler interrupted her, "You have SCD, right? It should be alright...look over there, Reese also suffers from SCD but she’s eating the same kind of chocolate I gave you."

Shikera looked in the direction of Reese, a frown settling on her face. Would it be alright for her to do this?

Her hands opened the box lid, and she picked up a bar followed by Skyler and the other girls. Slowly, Shikera lifted it up to her mouth and took a big bite, a smile spreading on her face at the way its sweetness melted into her mouth.

Skyler smiled at her, "It’s as easy as that, Kera."

A teacher walked into the class, causing them all to rush to their respective seats. Shikera took her seat and brought out her textbook, ignoring the gnawing feeling of guilt in her chest.

A few minutes later, Cyprian was returning to the class when she saw the uproar in their classroom block. The students of all departments were crowded outside her classroom while screaming inaudibly. What had happened while she was gone? A bad feeling rising from the pit of her stomach, she hurriedly squeezed through the crowd to emerge at the front.

Finally getting to the front of the crowd, Cyprian took in the sight in front of her and her heart dropped to the ground.

"Kera!"
