The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife-Chapter 68: Naive Souls.
"Hey!"
Enoch turned on his heels when he heard Ruthlyn’s voice, as he had been waiting for her for the past thirty minutes. Staring at the sparkling reflection of the crescent moon on the rippling surface of the water had made the time go unnoticed by him.
"Hi!" He greeted back politely, soliloquizing inwardly if it was alright that right now, he prefered the time he was always at loggerheads with Ruthlyn to this time when she had finally agreed to keep the engagement in place. Was it him, or was their relationship finally getting boring? A week old relationship?!
"Doesn’t the lake look more beautiful than it should look on a crescent moon night?"
Ruthlyn’s question snapped him out of his thoughts and he turned to face her, a small smile settled on his lips. He was really scared of doing anything that could make her reconsider her decision before his birthday party.
"It is," he agreed. Taking a bold step of courage, he added, "But it’s nothing compared to how you look bathed in the light reflected by the full moon."
The short silence that ensued after, almost made him slap himself for his stupidity, but he refrained himself when a small chuckle escaped her lips.
"It’s nothing compared to how you look too, in your birthday suit on a full moon night."
Enoch’s ears grew red at that, knowing Ruthlyn was talking about that day when the both of them had an unconscious one night stand in Mignon’s house.
After that day when Mignon had caught them together, she had refused to believe it was her conservative but older manager who initiated the one night stand with her mischievous brother. As the two people who had been in the room together could not remember anything, she had continued to pile the blame on Enoch until Ruthlyn lied that she remembered.
In a burst of protective hormones for the 20 year old seemingly innocent boy standing with head bowed in front of her, Ruthlyn had lied that she remembered. When Mignon refused to believe her, Ruthlyn had been forced to recount fake steamy scenes with her face red from embarrassment.
Enoch had known immediately that even though his sister’s manager was older, she still seemed innocent so he had joined in the charade and had helped Ruthlyn in recounting the events.
"She was so beautiful when the light reflected on her that I could not help but want to kiss her. Her eyes was so beautiful as they sparkled that I didn’t know when I got to her front to speak with her," he had said, and that statement still made him laugh till this day.
"Do I look like I want to hear a fairy tale?" Mignon had asked, refusing to believe them and instead, asking for details of what happened in the bedroom instead. The two naive souls had failed to notice that the superstar was just teasing them so they had once again launched into tales of the steamy night they could not remember.
"Manager Stone led the way to the bedroom and I followed cause I was totally smitten by her," Enoch lied.
Mignon nodded in approval, and Ruthlyn took over from Raymond.
"He was actually very fast so I didn’t know when we got into bed..."
"That’s true. She was so beautiful that I couldn’t stop myself and uhm...I think I made those hickeys on her..."
At his unsure tone, Mignon scoffed, "Who else would have bitten her? Me?! Ruth, continue the story,"
The flustered Ruthlyn had looked down at her hands and sighed before answering, "I can’t go into details but...I know I was the uhm...shameless one and I’ll take the blame if he wants to sue me."
At that moment, Enoch’s heart had sank without reason. The fact that his sister’s manager still wanted to protect his image because she felt he was still young, had hurt him beyond measure. And after then, even when they had both remembered what happened that night and had known the real person at fault, she had still remained stiff and emotionless whenever she was handling things related to him.
When they had been engaged to each other, he had refused then because he didn’t want to be restrained but it turned out she was the one being restrained instead. She was the one who had a list of things added to her assignments, to maintain her relationship with Enoch while he had simply gone to university and caused trouble for her once in a while.
A small tap on his shoulder snapped him out of his reverie, for him to notice that Ruthlyn had been talking to him.
"You were lost," she pointed out, leaving the water side and moving to recline on one of the chairs placed not far from there.
Enoch followed her, taking the chair directly beside hers.
"You were saying something?" he asked.
"Yeah, I was the one who called you out yet I came late so I was apologizing."
"It’s nothing. Why did you ask me to come here instead of meeting me inside? Did I do something wrong?" Even though he highly doubted it since she had joked with him just now, he still had to ask in order to reassure himself.
Ruthlyn, however, laughed at his question.
"Why didn’t I meet you inside? Ethan, I remember vividly how fierce you were when you asked me to meet you inside my own room four years ago. I’m not that stupid, you know."
"What?! But...I didn’t act on my own then. I was only fierce because you wanted me too..."
"Of course," Ruthlyn interrupted him, a teasing smile on her lips."That’s exactly my point. Who told you I don’t want you now?"
"If you don’t believe me, we can just go inside and I’ll show you. I only fear that Ethan will evict you," she joked.
"My..." Enoch had to stop to wonder if Ruthlyn didn’t drink or take any kind of drug before coming here, for her to be saying all these tonight. Her actions now we’re already making him reject his earlier thoughts that he preferred their relationship when they still argued, to the peaceful one they had now.
Ruthlyn laughed out loud at his speechless state, before changing the topic abruptly. "It’s your birthday in three days, and we’ll have to confirm our engagement then. I was thinking we should wear matching colours of clothes but I wanted to hear your thoughts first. And if you agree, I want to know the colour you’ll want it to be."
Enoch tilted his head as if in deep thought before answering,"Why don’t you choose instead? I don’t really care much about such stuffs."
Oblivious to how much his words had just dampened Ruthlyn’s mood, he rambled on,"If I was asked to choose, I would forgo the party, both the birthday and the engagement after party. It’s not like it’s going to be interesting with all the uptight rules that have been set in place."
Ruthlyn stayed quiet, as she continued listening to him.
"I wonder who helps mum organize those parties. They are always so boring..."
"Enough!" Ruthlyn cut him off, but was hindered from proceeding as both of their phones pinged at the same time.
It could only be Ethan or Shikera who would message them both at the same time, as it was through the group she created when she couldn’t speak temporarily.
"Did she reach out to anyone of you?" The message from Ethan read.
They gave their replies in the negative, standing up at the same time to meet Ethan even though he had not ordered them to do so yet. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Lucas Feliz Group of Hospitals.
Andrew stared up at Shikera’s face which was growing paler by the minute. He had attempted to adjust the blanket covering her while making sure his hand couldn’t touch her, since the doctor in charge of her had strictly instructed him not to touch her.
"She’s been overworked, stressed and fatigued," the doctor had told him. But what he still didn’t understand was why the man had said touching her would aggravate her stress yet the man had been touching her since.
The sound of a phone ringing from the top of the cabinet, attracted his attention and he stood up to retrieve it. It was Shikera’s and as she was unconscious, he thought it was alright if he received the call on her behalf.
The caller ID also read, ’Dad’ with a series of starry emojis behind it so he concluded her father must be worrying about her already, and picked the call.
"Hello,"
"Where’s she?"
The sharp voice from the other end of the phone gave Andrew no chance to speak, as he was getting impatient. Since Andrew still thought it was Shikera’s father, he replied without wasting time. The man was probably too worried about his daughter for him to care about the person who picked the call.
"It’s the hospital, Lucas..."
"Thanks for your help. You can be on your way home now."
And the call was disconnected, shocking Andrew.
