The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife-Chapter 69: Leonard Alexander.
How rude, Andrew thought. But then, before one could have a beautiful and intelligent daughter like Shikera still unmarried even with the teeming bachelors in the country, then it meant the person had to be considerably rude to all her boyfriends, at least to stare the cowardly ones away.
Not once did he think of obeying the directive given by the person over the phone, so he simply dropped the device back on the cabinet, and turned back to face the sleeping Shikera.
Just then, the door opened and the doctor sauntered in, his eyebrows raising in surprise when he noticed Andrew was still in the room.
"You’re still here? Didn’t you receive a call on her phone just now?"
Andrew smiled politely at the man’s confidence and slight rudeness, even though he was confused within himself. How did the doctor know he just received a call on Shikera’s phone? And was it a common thing nowadays for men to be rude to fellow men?
Discarding his disorderly thoughts, he answered, "I did. But it would make no sense if I don’t hand her over to someone who I can trust, considering the fact that you can’t seem to put a hand to what is wrong with her."
Since it was the trend now to be rude, there should be no offense in trying it out.
"Yh, I know I’m an incompetent doctor...but I also wouldn’t put my patient in danger by entrusting her into the hands of someone she doesn’t know. She’ll be waking up in a few minutes so why don’t you go get her something to eat?"
Andrew stared at the doctor in silence, before standing up in agreement.
"I’ll be back soon. If her father arrives while I’m gone..."
"Then, I will ask him to wait for you. She can’t leave without eating, anyway."
As the door closed behind Andrew, Leonard Alexander stared down at Shikera’s face, a pained look flittering across his eyes. He reached out his hand to smoothen her hair, as his finger trailed down the side of her face.
"Kera," he whispered. "Why the hell did your father chose someone who knows so little about you, to guide you? Why did he have to go to Ethan DeLoach when there are many other willing individuals who would gladly die for that chance?"
His phone rang and he dug his hand into the pocket of his lab coat to retrieve it, picking the call.
"Hey Krystal... It’s not a VIP ward. Yh, room 215."
He hung up on the call and sat on the bed beside Shikera, his hand not halting from it’s linear motion of smoothening her hairs. Even when he heard the door open, he neither turned nor moved his hands.
"Excuse me?"
Leonard’s hand paused. It was a female’s voice, and that was unexpected. Didn’t Shikera husband think her worthy enough to get her from the hospital by himself? Again, he felt angry at the man whom he has never met.
"Doctor...?"
He rose from the bed, turning to see that his presumption earlier had been wrong. As he recognized the lady who was standing before him as Ruthlyn Stone, he could tell that the man wearing black t-shirt and trousers, with his face obscured behind a facemask and a facecap was Ethan DeLoach.
"She’s asleep," he informed them, even though it was something they could tell by themselves.
"When is she expected to wake up?" Ruthlyn asked, her tone professional.
Behind her, Ethan’s hardened gaze was fixed on the doctor. Immediately he entered the room earlier, his eyes had went straight to the bed and he had noticed the doctor’s hand on his wife. The fact that the doctor still behaved like he had done nothing wrong, was now what was confusing him.
"In ten minutes," he replied. Seeing that Ruthlyn’s face held hint of a doubt, Leonard frowned. "I bet you don’t even know what is wrong with her."
At that moment, even though he couldn’t see Ethan’s eyes, he could feel the man’s eyes on him and could tell it was not in a good way.
Even Ruthlyn could now tell this doctor was strange, as she sighed, "Doctor..., I don’t think you know it’s your job to tell us that."
"Ah, another person telling me I’m incompetent. Could that be why Uncle Anderson chose you over me?" His speech was directed at Ethan, whose eyes shrouded in confusion at that.
Ethan’s brain was quick to connect the dots and he stepped forward, removing the cap he was wearing. This person knew Shikera and was also close to Liam Anderson, and this could only mean he was part of the Mega families.
"Who are you?" he asked simply, his tone commanding respect which Leonard gave unwillingly.
"Where are my manners?" He muttered, walking around the bed to stand before Ethan.
He extended his hand for a handshake while introducing himself.
"Leonard Alexander, Kera’s mmm..." he tilted his head as if in deep thought.
Ethan took the handshake, gripping Leonard’s hand in his. An evil smirk sat gracefully on his lips, which was hidden behind the facemask.
"You mean to say you are her boyfriend? The same position you occupy in the lives of many other girls out there?"
Leonard was surprised, and he made no attempt at hiding it.
"I see you guys are pretty close for her to have told you about me."
Ethan simply looked on, betraying no emotions on his face.
"You don’t have to be surprised, as that should be perfectly normal in a marriage," he observed Leonard’s face before adding, "By the way, I don’t think you are incompetent. Since, you were perfectly right when you said I should have known what was wrong with her."
To Leonard’s questioning gaze, he answered, "We do have a sexually active life so it shouldn’t surprise you, right?"
The speed with which Leonard’s face contorted into a frown surprised both Ethan and Ruthlyn, but they could say nothing as the sound of Shikera’s laughter resonated from the bed.
"For real?" She struggled to let out the two words amidst laughing.
Ethan glanced at her and even though he was not sure, there seemed to be a sense of dread in her eyes, as if she didn’t want him to say anything more. This made him step closer to her.
"How are you feeling now?"
"Absolutely alright! The pain usually leaves sometimes around evening so I’m alright now."
Noticing that her tone was firm, Ethan sighed in relief before turning to Leonard who was still wearing a frown on his face.
"What is he saying, Kera? What does he mean you have a sexually active life?" Leonard’s gaze were trained hard on Shikera as the room fell silent.
Ethan and Ruthlyn found the question strange but Shikera didn’t seem to, as she immediately answered, "He is just joking, Leo. Wasn’t it an arranged marriage?"
Ethan’s hand released Shikera’s immediately, as he stared from her to Leonard, a dull realization dawning on him. But, hadn’t she told him he wasn’t her boyfriend?
"Just be careful, Kera. He’s a man and men are capable of..."
Leonard’s words drifted off Shikera’s ears as she turned to Ethan, her eyes pleading for understanding but it seemed he already judged her by himself. He wouldn’t believe her anyway so she surrendered.
She hoisted herself up from the bed and picked up her phone, her movement brisk and calculated.
"Goodbye Leo, I’ll give you a call when i get home."
With that, she covered the distance between herself and Ruthlyn and slipped her hand into hers.
"We’ll be on our way then," with that, she pulled Ruthlyn out of the room and walked away.
Hearing the door close, Ethan faced Leonard without saying anything even though his eyes held questions.
The latter maintained eye contact, refusing to back down since Shikera had given him the courage he needed. However, he was surprised when Ethan removed the mask on his face and revealed the smirk on his face.
"You might have loved each other but you weren’t the first person her father thought of when he needed help, and that automatically disqualifies you. Ethan DeLoach doesn’t accept defeat."
He returned his facemask to it’s former position, and walked out of the ward.

Ruthlyn drove the car while Shikera sat beside her, leaving Ethan to sit at the back. Even though he was always quiet, Shikera could tell this night’s silence was pregnant with a lot of questions and that he was probably doing that to withhold anger. If only she could explain to him without compromising herself.
"Ethan? How did you know I was there?" She asked him, staring at his stoic face through the rearview mirror while hoping against hope for him to answer her. That way, she would be able to gauge the level of anger he held at her.
"Ruthlyn?" Instead of answering her, Ethan called out to Ruthlyn instead. The latter, understanding the message, was quick to answer.
"You were late and Ethan was really worried so we tried to reach Miss Leigh. We weren’t able to reach her and were about finding you when Doctor Alexander called to inform us of your whereabouts."
"Leonard or Krystal?"
"Dr. Krystal. Ethan also called your number and a man picked the call, that’s all."
Shikera nodded in understanding, apology expressed vividly in her eyes.
"I’m sorry for troubling you all," she whispered, though loud enough for the others in the car to hear her. Picking up her phone, she hurriedly texted Cyprian as she needed to know who she was to apologize or show appreciation too.
"Hey! Care to tell me what happened after I passed out?"
The reply came almost immediately, "Passed out? Why do you treat this as if it’s a totally normal thing that you passed out?"
"Because it is. No one, especially me, should suffer when it’s not my fault I’m this weak. It’s not a new thing so why fuss?"
At the other end of the line, Cyprian frowned at the text she just received from Shikera. The light from the open laptop screen reflected on her face as she wondered why it looked like Shikera was exceptionally angry tonight.

The car stopped and Ethan was the first to alight. Taking long strides towards the door, he didn’t wait for Shikera as he always did.
Ping!
His phone pinged with a text in his pocket, and frowning at the strange number, he clicked on the message.
"It’s Leonard Alexander. You can ask me any questions you want to about Kera, in return for keeping her extremely and completely safe."
Ethan laughed, a loud one which rippled through his chest and made Shikera who was just walking in, to halt in her footsteps.
