The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife-Chapter 243: Survey
"Can you see that?" Mignon asked, "Shouldn’t you get her to stop crying before you leave?"
Shikera sighed, "It’s not going to be as easy as that." Turning to Mignon, she directed, "Use the facemask now. Esther is smart so we should be able to see her without anyone knowing."
"How will you do that?" Alan asked, watching the ladies cover their faces once again.
"We will have to meet her inside, in the restroom maybe. I’ll need your help to do that, Alan," Shikera replied. Getting a nod from Alan, she continued, "You will have to near her and try to make small talks with her as if she’s just a cute young girl you saw."
"Even with the glass between us?"
"Yeah," Shikera nodded. "Esther will pay you attention since she saw you with us. Then tell her to get to the restroom without anyone knowing. Tell her mummy won’t see her if she comes with someone else."
Alan picked up his bag and was ready to leave when it dawned on him what he just heard.
"Mummy?!" he chorused at the same time as Mignon. Their eyes held questions which Shikera was sure would take the whole of that day to answer.
She shook her head hurriedly, pointing in direction of the restaurant’s entrance as she grabbed Mignon’s wrist.
"We will talk about this later. Alan, we will join you here when we are done speaking to her."
With that, Shikera pulled Mignon with her as they headed into the restaurant. She could only hope that Esther would be able to get out of the private room without anyone seeing her. That was highly impropable though.
As the two of them made their way to the restroom, Alan on the other hand, was now standing in front of the glass room. With a bright smile on his face, he waved to the young girl who looked a lot like Leah as he bent down to her height.
As if everyone in the room already had their eyes on the young girl from the beginning, they all turned to look at him when he settled himself in front of her like that.
"Is anything the problem, Sir?" The woman who sat nearest to the little girl asked, to which Alan shook his head.
"Not at all. This little girl has just been staring at I and my friends for a while now and I thought she was cute. Uh...if you don’t mind, I have this small survey I’m carrying out with kids so I wanted to ask her some questions. Can I?" he asked, the smile on his face staying glued. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Now that he was closer to them and could see their faces clearly, he could tell that these people who were Kera and Leah’s family, did not look ordinary.
"We don’t think—" the woman who looked exactly like Kera was beginning to answer him, when the little girl interrupted.
"I can chose for myself. What’s the survey about?"
’Thank goodness she’s as smart as Kera said,’ Alan thought, giving Esther a thumbs up sign.
"Thanks, Pretty. So first of all, what’s your name? Just your name, to make sure you remain anonymous," he began. He would make small talk with her until the attention of the other people was completely diverted from them. God help him if any of them decided to keep watching.
"Esther. What’s yours?"
Alan was a little bit surprised that she was asking him his name. He had been unprepared for that. Wait...why was he feeling like someone who wanted to introduce himself to his in-law?
"Can’t you remember your name?" Esther’s soft voice seemed to have a bit of mockery in them as she asked.
"Of course, I do remember. It’s Alan," he replied.
Esther burst out laughing and gradually, Alan felt the gazes on him disappearing. Within a minute of talking to Esther, the others had shifted back to their previous discussion and were no longer paying attention to Alan. It was not like he could steal her away when there was a glass window separating them.
"So Esther, did you recognize my friends earlier?" he whispered, leaning closer so she would be able to hear him clearly.
"I did! That’s my mummy and my mummy," Esther replied. "Where did you find them?"
Though he was confused at how Esther had addressed Kera and Leah, he knew he had not much time left so he went straight to the point.
"Leave that aside, Esther. Your mum wants to see you but she does not want any of these people to come with you. She’s waiting in the restroom," he informed. "Do you think you can come out to see her?"
"Yes!" Esther replied without thinking.
"Wait, mummy or not, you aren’t supposed to agree to what a stranger says that easily. Don’t you know that?" Alan asked, a frown on his face. Yes, this was not the time for lectures but what if another person came right after him and used the same tactic in taking the girl away.
Esther simply stared at the man who had brought the message from her mum, but didn’t bother to reply him. She turned away from him and walked to Hazel, "Miss Hazel, could you follow me to the restroom?"
"Didn’t I just ask her not to let anyone know?" Alan muttered under his breath. He rose to his feet and raised his voice to announce his departure.
"Thanks for letting me speak with Esther. I will take my leave now," he bowed slightly. Turning on his heels, he made his way into the restaurant to join the others. He had to warn them someone was coming with Esther.
Meanwhile, Hazel with a smile on her face excused herself from Elizabeth’s company as she accompanied Esther out. As soon as the door closed behind her, the smile on her face fell.
"Shit! Who is that one trying to fool by treating me nicely?"
