"Shit! Who is she trying to fool by treating me nicely?"

Hazel was annoyed, very annoyed at that. Ever since she stepped into that private room with the others even though she had no clue why she was brought here with them, she had decided to enjoy her day here at least. It was not everytime that she got the chance to eat lunch in a restaurant like this.

But ever since the Elizabeth walked in, the girl had smartly reduced her to a maid while exulting herself as a nice person. What with asking her questions of her childhood and then comparing with her own self? At first, she had thought Elizabeth was trying to engage her in a conversation but as time passed, Elizabeth’s intention became clear.

Hazel had read enough romance novels to know who she was acting like. Like those rich female leads who were—

"Miss Hazel, can I get ice cream please?" Esther’s asked, jolting Hazel out of her reverie.

Hazel was surprised, but she didn’t bother hiding it.

"But you told Miss Elizabeth just now that you don’t like ice cream?" she questioned. Just a few minutes ago, Elizabeth had been trying to get Esther to look at her so she had promised the little girl ice cream. But Esther had surprised them when she said she would only take ice cream that her mum gave her. The atmosphere had turned awkward for a moment there.

"Yes, it’s because I don’t like Miss Elizabeth. But you, I like you and mummy likes you too so I want you to get it for me," Esther stated. Truthfully, she was just taking a chance and did not expect Hazel to agree. In fact, the next plan she had was to throw a tantrum when they got to the restroom and ask Hazel not to follow her inside.

But Hazel agreed immediately.

"Alright. Since you like me so much, I’ll go get the ice cream. Just stay here and do not go anywhere," she instructed, to see Esther nod in agreement. The fury in Hazel’s chest which was caused by Elizabeth’s annoying attitude, had subsided. And all it took for that to happen was that wonderful sentence from Esther. It showed that even though she could not compare to Shikera yet, she was the next choice after her.

As she walked away from Esther to the receptionist’s table, only one thought was in her mind.

’My love story is still intact. I just have to persevere and completely win Ethan’s heart. Elizabeth has no chance in my presence!"

If she had bothered to look back at where she left the girl, she would have seen Esther running towards where the restroom was situated.

"You think she will be able to come alone?" Shikera murmured.

"Of course, didn’t you see that she looked smart?" Mignon replied.

Hearing that answer, Shikera slowly lifted her head to stare at Mignon, who had wanted to comfort her daughter even without knowing who she was.

"Doesn’t she look a lot like you, Mignon?" Shikera asked.

"Mignon? You are calling me the same name you called me that night. Is that like a title or—?"

"No, it’s your real name. Mignon DeLoach," Shikera chuckled as she said it. She never imagined she would be telling Mignon all of this in a situation like this but she didn’t care anymore. After getting her medical report from Krystal, she would return to the island and never come back here. It was only perfect for her to tell Mignon everything about her now so as not to regret anything in the future.

"What are you saying, Kera? You knew my name and my surname? Were we close?" Mignon barraged her with questions, her curiosity heightening the more seconds Shikera stayed without speaking.

"We weren’t close. In fact, the first time I met you in person was on the island, but I guess you can say I have seen your face several times in pictures," Shikera replied. Just as she was about to continue with her explanation, she heard a soft and familiar voice approaching.

"Mummy..."

"I’m in here, Esther." Shikera pulled the door open, and there was Esther standing there with eyes sparkling in happiness.

"Mummy!" She lunged straight into Shikera’s arms, wrapping her own small hands around Shikera’s waist.

Without breaking the hug, Shikera pulled her into the room and closed the door.

"I missed mummy so much!" Esther exclaimed, annoyed that her mother could not see how much she missed her all these time. Earlier, even though she could see her mummy from the distance, she did not mention it to Enoch and the rest because she wanted to continue being a good girl.

She broke the embrace and looked up at Shikera with glistening eyes, before moving them to settle on Mignon.

"Mummy, where did you find mummy?"

"That..." Shikera almost laughed at the way the question was represented, despite the influx of emotions within her. "You shouldn’t ask about now." She turned to Mignon, "I promise I will tell you everything."

Though confused, Mignon nodded. She was too occupied with staring at this little princess for her to be curious right now.

"When are you coming back home, Mummy?" Esther asked.

Shikera raised her brows, "Why were you crying earlier? If you answer that, I’ll answer all your questions too."

"Nothing, I just wanted you to come back home. I’ve been a good girl all through the time you went on vacation but now I can’t take it anymore! I also don’t like the way Miss Elizabeth stares at me!" Esther complained.

"Elizabeth? I guess she’s doing a good job after taking my place," Shikera muttered, her voice inaudible to the hearing of both Mignon and Esther. "Uhm, Esther... where is your daddy? Why is he not here with you?"

"Daddy? Aren’t you on vacation with him?" Esther asked, surprise evident in her voice.
