The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife-Chapter 217: Questions.
Shikera paced the room impatiently, her legs shaking under her as she did. But she didn’t stumble, even for once.
"Ouch!" She felt a prick on her pinky finger and hurriedly examined it to see a drop of blood. She had been chewing her pinky nails earlier and didn’t notice when she started on the flesh, causing this to happen.
As soon as she saw the blood, she dropped her hand and forgot about it, reverting back to her thoughts.
She was pregnant! As absurd as it sounded, the tens of pregnancy test kits on the bathroom floor was saying it was real. She could not believe it. But then, she had other things to think about.
And those things were Ethan, Ethan, Ethan, and Ethan. All her fucking thoughts revolved around him and she hated it! This pregnancy was already a warning for her not to see him again, for she would not want to rid him of his right to the shares he would get from her father. After all, it wasn’t his fault that she got pregnant, right?
"What do I do...?" she muttered.
’All this is my fault! Why the heck did I decide to be the light of the whole family? And they aren’t even my family! I became a reporter for mom, married Ethan for dad, decided to get pregnant for dad and Noah...and Ethan. Just who asked me to do all this shit?!’ she screamed in her head.
Bending to a squatting position, she cradled her head in her hands and began to sob. She could not even allow herself think much about the fact that a baby was living inside her because she was scared shit of the situation. With the way she was eating and living right now, she was not even sure she herself would survive for nine months more, not to talk of the baby. And for the umpteenth time that morning, she asked herself why she got pregnant in the first place.
A knock resounded on her door and Mignon’s voice followed, "Kera? Grandma says you should come have breakfast!"
Shikera sighed. Even to eat breakfast now seemed like a tedious chore for her with the way Grandma Cooper always stood over her with a fierce look, promising to throw her out if she so much as bent over from nausea. Of course, Shikera was appreciative for she knew she would probably be in the hospital now after fainting from starvation if not for the technique Grandma Cooper adopted.
"Kera, are you there?" Mignon’s voice came again.
"Uh? Could you please tell her I am busy right now and can’t—"
The door swung open just then and Grandma Cooper walked into the room with a disapproving frown on her face.
"What are you busy doing?"
In the twinkling of an eye, Shikera wiped the tears off her cheeks and rose to her feet.
"Grand—"
"And why are you crying too?" Grandma Cooper asked again.
Shikera fell speechless, knowing that she would not be given the chance to reply even if she attempted to talk.
"You do know you are a crybaby, right?" Grandma Cooper continued, "Come eat breakfast, you cry. Eat lunch, you cry. Eat dinner, you cry again. Then you cry yourself to sleep at night. Why?"
Shikera remained silent, fiddling with her fingers nervously.
"Since you won’t say anything, then come out and eat."
"I have to buy a phone. Where’s the nearest place I can get it?" Shikera suddenly asked.
"What do you need a phone for?"
"Just to surf the internet and know what’s going on in the city. It’s just to satisfy my curiosity," Shikera replied.
Grandma Cooper was silent for a while as she remained staring at Shikera like she had grown horns on her head.
"It’s just as it thought," she said, when her mouth finally opened.
"What is?" Shikera asked.
"You are not from an ordinary family. Which commoner would want to check the news to know what’s going on with her own family? You know what? You’ll answer a few questions from me and that will determine if you really need to get this phone or not."
Shikera nodded slightly, though a little confused on what questions the older woman wanted to ask her.
"First of all, what kind of news exactly are you searching for?"
Shikera shook her head in reply,"Nothing in particular, just any sort of news and I’ll be satisfied."
"And if there’s no news at all?" Grandma Cooper questioned.
"I will still be reassured that everything is alright with them," Shikera replied.
"Then that means you don’t need to check the news at all. You didn’t run from them because they were in danger and you wanted to escape, right? That means you have only yourself to save right now. If you get a phone and can’t find any news on them, you will be tempted to call any one of your acquaintances there. And then, your location will be tracked. Would you like that?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Shikera shook her head and Grandma Cooper continued.
"Now, to the final and most important questions. You are pregnant now so I understand that you are consumed with fear. But do you think you should go back to your husband with this pregnancy?"
Shaking her head, Shikera knew that as good as that suggestion sounded, it was the last thing she should do in this situation. Her showing up with her pregnancy to Ethan would be the last straw to break the camel’s back.
Her father would surely be annoyed for she knew he still loved her, but behind that, he was a business man and would want to honour the terms of the contract. He would want to take the whole of Chris DeLoach’s shares in DL Corporation. What if Ethan thought that was the reason she provoked him to make love with her?
Her brain was so muddled that she could not even organize her thoughts. Looking up to Grandma Cooper, she replied, "No."
