Chapter 203: Ticking Time Bomb.

"What happened?" Shikera asked, snapping her head up to see that two black cars had stopped directly in front of the one she was in.

"Stay in the car, Ma’am."

Shikera had no choice but to obey the man’s instruction, as she didn’t want to leave this world yet. Plus, Esther was with her. She could not endanger the little girl just to satisfy her own curiosity.

"Mummy..."

Hearing Esther’s soft voice, Shikera looked down and saw that she was awake.

"How are you feeling now?" she asked gently. The slight fear that was still visible in the little girl’s eyes made Shikera subconsciously plant a kiss on her temple.

"I am okay. Just a little scared," Esther replied.

The nonchalant way in which the girl spoke reminded Shikera of how she had been when she just got married to Ethan. Grumpy and a little bit mature, but who knew there was such an adorable angel beneath all of that?

"You don’t have to be scared, Esther. As long as mummy is here, then I will protect you. Oh, and daddy too, he will protect you even when I’m not there," Shikera comforted her.

"I believe you, Mommy... or should I call you momma? I like that better."

Shikera nodded, a smile breaking out on her lips at the excitement in Esther’s eyes.

"Okay, I’ll be momma while you are princess. How’s that?" she asked.

"Princess Esther, sounds beautiful."

The two broke into laughter and Shikera pulled Esther into a tight embrace. She felt ashamed that a little girl like Esther was not scared...but she...she was. Shikera Anderson was scared even though she was laughing right now.

"Ma’am, will you come down for a moment?"

Shikera turned to the man peeking in through the window, surprised.

"I can come down?" She had even been expecting to hear more sounds of gunshots so she was a little shocked that she was being asked to alight.

"Yes, Chairman DeLoach is the one in the car."

"Really?!" Shikera didn’t hesitate to alight when she heard that. However, she was still a little bit nervous so she picked up her bag and hung it around her shoulder, so she could at least have something to fiddle with if she became uncomfortable.

"Here, play a game or music so you won’t feel lonely," she said, handing her phone to Esther, "I will be back."

Shikera followed the man’s direction and walked to the car where Chris DeLoach was.

"Get in," she had barely gotten there when a familiar voice said.

She opened the car and got in, her face void of any form of emotions.

"Hello, Sir."

"How are you feeling?"

Shikera was surprised when she heard the question. With the manner at which the man greeted her, she did not expect her to ask her that.

"I am okay," she replied.

"Good, but you do know you are the only one who is okay, right?"

"Uh?"

"You don’t need to answer. I intentionally came to intercept you from getting to the hospital, Shikera, so I hope you listen intently to what I am about to say," Chris said, his tone stern and unfamiliar. Like he was talking to a mere subordinate.

"Oh...okay, I will listen..." Shikera replied. What else could she say when the man was exuding such intimidating aura like Ethan’s?

"I just asked how you are and you said you are okay, everyone else is not. Your simple existence in itself, is just like a ticking time bomb for all members of the Mega families because you know too many things about us, and out secrets. If you weren’t associated with my son, I know you would have been dead by now...and that’s why I, along with the other heads, have been holding back from taking any action against you," he paused for a while as if to make sure she was really listening to him, before continuing,

"And there is Liam too, he doesn’t want us to do anything to you but he knows he can’t stop us. At most, he will have to expend all his shares in order to bribe us to let you be. That’s what you breathing in and out can cause..."

"Ex—excuse me, I...I don’t think I’m in a proper state of mind to listen to this. I can meet you tomorrow or...to—tonight. I just can’t—"

"Shut your mouth!" Chris cut her off, shocking Shikera to the core. "I haven’t mentioned what happened today, right? Because of you, over twenty people were put in danger and if I must tell you, those people weren’t from us. There were from your family, The Jordans! We don’t know yet is the waiter is dead, or the other man that got shot in the leg. You might not care about those people since they used to be inferior to you but what about my granddaughter?! She was with you, and she could have been shot too!"

Shikera flinched, "That...that was not my fault in anyway! I was a victim too..." she stuttered.

Chris laughed, mockery lacing his voice.

"Victim? Well, I sympathize with you for that but still, you were lucky. If Liam did not take you in, wouldn’t your health have killed you? I know you are sensible, Shikera, but still...will you wait until more people are harmed before..."

"Goodbye!" Shikera suddenly screamed.

"I will just leave, that’s okay, right?! I don’t have to die so soon, do I?! Just...just stop my father from wasting anymore of his shares! I will leave after all...I have always been a burden!"

Without waiting for Chris’ response, Shikera pushed the door open and got out of the car, slamming the door after her. Struggling to hold her tears back, she broke into a run, heading away from where the three cars were.

She was not needed anywhere...

And worse, even if she offered to stay, she would not only be leeching on them without giving anything in return, but also be causing harm to them.

In short...she was a parasite to them all...

Ethan, Esther, Liam, Noah, Cyprian, Ruthlyn, Raymond, Skyler, Krystal, Leonard, Enoch, Raymond, Ruthlyn, and...Ethan again.

Those were the only people she had needed all her life, but now, her mere existence was a ticking time bomb for them, just as Chris said.
