The Chef Rules the Last Days-Chapter 482 - 480: Mourning
Chapter 482: Chapter 480: Mourning
Everyone had been cooperating as brothers for a long time, and now the flame of revenge was ignited. Su Mo spoke up at the right moment, "You don’t need to do anything. As long as they are still in Ao City, something will take care of them. Don’t forget, the Mutant Beast Tide is right behind us."
Her words, indeed, quelled many people’s anger.
They stood on the dark street for a while before each went off to rest, except for Jin Han who stayed there alone.
Jianxiong walked over and patted his shoulder, "Let’s go, brother, we need to set off early tomorrow."
"One of them had just recently found his mother still alive," Jin Han blurted out, then squatted down mournfully, "Having followed me for so long, how do I explain this to anyone?"
Su Mo and Lu Chen, who were about to leave, stopped and turned to look at him. Lu Chen stared at his hunched figure and said softly, "Life and death are governed by fate."
With those four words, he took Su Mo and left. Jianxiong also quietly patted Jin Han’s shoulder again and went to find a place to rest.
"If my strength were strong enough, only I would decide my fate," Su Mo said softly.
The man touched her head, "Exactly, those four words are just for comforting people."
She hadn’t really noticed his comforting, Su Mo shook her head, found a booth in the bar, and lay down on the couch, "We’ve delayed a day here. The route ahead hasn’t changed, right? I remember there is a bridge we need to cross on the map."
"No change. Tomorrow we’ll quicken our pace," Lu Chen sat down beside her and cushioned her head on his lap, "Go to sleep."
"Hmm, and let me tell you another piece of good news," Su Mo laid back and gazed into his deep blue eyes, smiling, "That Rice Hill supplies will last us a very long time, I’ve pulled it all back."
"Well done."
"That’s right."
"Here’s your reward."
"What... huh," before Su Mo could react, his cool lips pressed down briefly, then let go of her reddened face.
"All right, have a sleep," the man took out a thin blanket and gently covered her with it.
Su Mo pulled his hand to her chest and closed her eyes.
As soon as it was light, they set off.
The people from Ao City had evacuated cleanly. From a distance, the other side of the bridge looked like an empty city with only a few zombies scattered around.
Su Mo didn’t like riding on a motorcycle much due to its limitations; it could only serve as a backup vehicle. If there were sudden incidents, she wouldn’t be able to help much. Along the way, she and Lu Chen found a functional small Volkswagen car with a male corpse inside, a knife inserted in his throat, appearing to be a suicide since the car was stationary.
An ID card lay on his leg, Su Mo glanced at it casually; it belonged to someone with the last name Liu.
After fueling up, the group of cars continued on the road.
In the following days, apart from fighting zombies daily and collecting some edible and useful canned goods or life conveniences, nothing extraordinary happened.
The car smoothly exited the city and began winding around the mountain.
Animals occasionally darted through the jungle. While Su Mo was leaning out the window looking out, she suddenly turned her head to Lu Chen and said, "It’s still early, why don’t we hunt some more Mutant Beast meat to take back?"
Such a vast jungle, enough for them to hunt various game.
Su Mo’s restaurant also needed a meat supply, so Lu Chen agreed without thinking. The car stopped by the roadside, and they both got out.
Approaching the woods, they were greeted by the scent of soil and leaves. Jianxiong flexed his muscles and said, "Looks like there are quite a few Mutant Beasts around here."
Jin Han got out of the vehicle from behind. After understanding Su Mo’s intentions, he instructed his companions to get off as well, leaving two to guard the car.
Su Mo said, "Let’s gather here for lunch, make a game meal for everyone."
The sunlight was perfect, cascading down through the layers of leaves, lighting up the forest.
After Jin Han’s people had dispersed, Jianxiong also took off, leaving Su Mo and Lu Chen still standing there.
"How about a competition to see who kills more?" Su Mo turned her head, her chin uplifted.
Lu Chen wasn’t particularly interested in the challenge, but seeing her eager for battle, he nodded and said, "Okay."
As he spoke, Su Mo vanished like a streak into the woods.
How much did she not want to lose to him? The man chuckled to himself and walked calmly into the forest.
Su Mo rushed through the woods, using her keen sense of smell to quickly locate a Mutant Rabbit hidden under a fallen, crooked tree.
Its blood-red eyes and alert, twitching ears soon detected her movement. Su Mo’s Tang Blade in her left hand didn’t hesitate, she struck immediately, and with her superior level, she killed the Mutant Rabbit instantly.
The fluffy gray rabbit was too big to be held with one hand, larger than an average cat. Su Mo threw the body into her System Bag and continued deeper into the forest.
Occasionally, the voices of comrades could be heard on both sides, the number of animals on the periphery was substantial. Su Mo set her sights on a Moose deep in the forest.
It had lost an antler but was otherwise whole, and if one ignored its pale pupils, it looked no different from a regular deer.
Su Mo crouched behind a thicket. She didn’t want to shatter its head directly, hoping instead to keep the corpse intact to possibly make a stylish coat from its hide.
The Mutant Moose was vigilant, with its head held high, it stared motionlessly in Su Mo’s direction, its mouth resembling human-like large teeth continuously chewing.
Half a minute later, it lowered its head and relaxed, ready to eat a snake below it. Seizing this opportunity, Su Mo stood up, ready to chop at its legs first with her Tang Blade, but an ice crystal that was barely visible to the naked eye brushed past her and shot straight into the Moose’s eye. The animal kicked its legs a couple of times before falling down, blood oozing slowly from a tiny wound.
Behind her came the sound of legs brushing against the bushes. Su Mo puffed her cheeks and turned around, "That was the one I had my eyes on first."
"You were a step too late," Lu Chen responded, still in a relaxed manner, stepping past her and taking the burly Moose carcass.
Su Mo watched him for a moment, then suddenly smiled, "There’s still plenty of time."
She turned around to hunt again, but the Moose was gone, only a pile of rabbits killed, along with a nest she came across, full of underdeveloped Mutant baby rabbits inside.
Feeling compassionate, she released Da Bai, who hadn’t seen daylight for a long time. As soon as it was freed, it was overwhelmed by hunger. Su Mo was initially cautious, testing whether it would attack her out of starvation.
But as it turned out, she worried too much. The dog just stood obediently in front of her, eating only the Mutant baby rabbits she threw to it.
However, its manner of eating was still rather disgusting, its skulls split open, using the malformed teeth that grew in the middle to gnaw on the rabbit fur.
