Chapter 159: Chapter 159: I Miss You

It was rare for Seth Maverick and the Special Assistant to encounter a scene like this. Both of their positions were higher than Nathaniel Nathan’s, so they weren’t afraid of him. They absolutely couldn’t miss out on Eight Diagrams like this!

Vera Xavier was much calmer than they were; after all, he had teased her many times recently. She cleared her throat and asked directly, "While you were away, Wesley Kane was arrested for soliciting a prostitute and even ended up on TV. Did you arrange that?"

Nathaniel Nathan hummed softly in agreement. "I arranged it. How are you going to reward me when I get home?"

Vera Xavier had no idea his superiors were standing right beside him. His confirmation warmed her heart, and in a rush of emotion, the words tumbled out, "I’ll kiss you a hundred times!"

The corners of Nathaniel Nathan’s mouth lifted. "Okay. Our chairman and special assistant are right here listening. They’ll be my witnesses. If you dare go back on your word then, I’ll be sure to punish you severely."

Vera Xavier was absolutely mortified when she heard that. ’He’s gone too far! How could he say that in front of the chairman and special assistant?’ Her face instantly flushed crimson. Biting her lip, she said, "Nathaniel Nathan, you bastard! I’m never calling you again!"

"Don’t hang up!" Nathaniel Nathan knew her well. The moment she said that, he knew her next move would be to hang up the phone.

Blushing, Vera Xavier asked, "What else is there?"

"Vera, I miss you," Nathaniel Nathan said earnestly. Yes, he missed her. He’d started missing her the very second they were apart.

Vera Xavier honestly hadn’t expected him to dare say such things. Although the cold, aloof image she had of him had long since crumbled, for him to say this in front of the chairman and special assistant... she felt secondhand embarrassment for him even through the phone line.

She bit her lip and said, "Sorry, but I don’t miss you. I’m hanging up. Bye!"

She quickly hung up after saying that. She was afraid he would keep talking without a filter, saying things about wanting kisses and hugs. If that happened, she would really go insane!

Nathaniel Nathan frowned when he heard the dial tone. ’She really hung up on me! When I get back, I’m definitely going to have to teach her a lesson for this!’

’He missed her so much, and she just hung up on him!’

Seth Maverick and the Special Assistant had been watching his expression change the whole time. Seeing the look on his face, one of them couldn’t hold back a laugh.

Nathaniel Nathan’s gaze fell upon them. Suppressing a laugh, Seth Maverick nudged the special assistant with his elbow. The assistant got the hint and, forcing a stern expression, said, "Comrade Nathaniel Nathan, even though you were speaking with your wife, your words were a bit too explicit. You must be mindful of that next time!"

Nathaniel Nathan reverted to his usual icy demeanor. "Don’t you miss your wife?"

The special assistant was taken aback for a moment. "What kind of way is that to talk?"

Nathaniel Nathan’s tone was frigid. "If you don’t miss her, you’re not a man. If you do, then what are you laughing at me for? You’re acting like you’re some old bachelor."

With that said, he turned and left, his expression cold.

At that moment, the special assistant was at a loss for words to describe his feelings. Seth Maverick burst into a hearty laugh. "I’d only ever heard that Nathaniel Nathan was cold and had a venomous tongue. His coldness is the norm, but this is the first time I’ve seen that venomous tongue. Isn’t your eloquence usually quite good? Yet today, he roasted you so bad you were left completely speechless!"

"You’re still laughing at me!" The special assistant shot Seth Maverick a glare. "You say that as if you don’t miss your own wife and want to be an old bachelor!"

After Vera Xavier hung up, her heart was still racing, and her face was flushed beet red before she knew it.
