Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Sleeping with Him—Isn’t That Gross?

Yelena hoped he would be smart enough not to speak without thinking again.

But from just this sentence, Jasper realized something was wrong, and given that he’s good at recognizing people, wasn’t this the customer who paid Yelena money last time?

"What money?"

He seemed like he was waiting here on purpose.

Yelena glanced at the man. At this moment, he was already deflated. After recognizing Jasper’s face, he couldn’t say a word.

"Young master..."

Upon hearing this address, Yelena hurried to find an excuse to make him leave, "You don’t need to give me a ride today; I’ll go back myself."

Jasper extended his arm, pushing Yelena’s body aside, his gaze becoming more audacious and threatening, "What did you just call me?"

The man immediately realized that, logically, he had never interacted with Jasper; how could he have uttered such an address?

His mind wasn’t processing properly, "I’ve heard her mention you before." It was a cold day outside, but a thin sweat broke out on Henry Louis’s face, "I don’t need to give you a ride, so I’ll... leave first."

He turned around, attempting to leave, but was stopped by Hailey Jenkins, "Did I tell you that you could leave?"

Jasper withdrew his gaze, "What is the relationship between you two?"

He didn’t give them a chance to discuss, "Come on, I’ll count to three, and you both say it together."

Yelena forced a smile, "Young master, are you interrogating a suspect?"

"I’m not joking with you; otherwise, I’ll have someone drag him away too."

Yelena couldn’t even force a smile anymore, and Henry, who was waiting outside, was anxious, fearing exposure and getting skinned alive.

"One."

Jasper began counting, and Yelena quickly glanced at Henry.

"Two."

She glanced at the car beside her, hoping he would understand.

"Three."

Both had to speak at the same time.

Henry said, "Boyfriend."

The word "driver" slipped out of Yelena’s mouth too.

A low, cold laughter echoed from the side, wrapped in a sense of indifference, sounding quite eerie.

"Yelena, you found yourself such a boyfriend?" No wonder Madeline Forest said he was ugly; he could also guess that it couldn’t be Justin Sutton. "What do you see in him?"

This lie couldn’t hold up; the more you try, the worse it gets, so Yelena stuck to her own story, "He’s not, just a chauffeur I hired, taking me home on time every day."

She thought she could get past it because Jasper said nothing further, and Henry just wanted to escape this place of trouble, "Since you don’t need a ride today, I’ll leave first."

He took two steps, but Yelena called him back. She got out of the car and followed him.

Henry’s face turned fierce immediately, "Why did you come out? Trying to get me killed?"

"You better play blind tonight and not tell Miss Alden everything."

Henry heard this as a threat, "Why should I listen to you?"

"Look whose car I came out of; could I be entirely innocent with the young master? I may not be a match for Miss Alden, but I can surely whisper in someone’s ear to deal with you."

Before Henry could agree, she got back into Jasper’s car.

Yelena’s comings and goings had let the warmth in the car escape entirely; she pulled her coat tightly around herself, wishing she could bury her whole body in it.

The car didn’t head straight to her home but to a restaurant instead.

"Eat something," said Jasper, getting out of the car.

The dishes came quickly; they must have been pre-arranged, and a server placed a soup bowl in front of her, steam rising as the lid was lifted.

"Eat up, once you’re done, I’ll take you back."

Yelena was already hungry, and a mouthful of warm soup felt like life returning to a half-dead person.

Jasper remembered she could eat a lot, so he ordered many dishes. Yelena focused on her soup when she suddenly paused at Jasper’s words.

"If you really want to find a man, look for Justin Sutton, he’s better than this guy."

She was still chewing on tender pigeon meat, swallowed it down, and then spoke, "It’s not possible with Justin Sutton anymore."

"Yelena, you’re really not selective."

She didn’t want to explain anything.

Jasper interpreted her response as a silent agreement, becoming even less polite, "What’s it like to sleep in the same bed with someone like him?"

Yelena felt a lump in her throat; what seemed like delicious soup just a moment ago now felt bland.

"Like I said, he’s just a driver."

"Ha," Jasper’s tone suggested he was mocking her, "Waking up to such a face, wouldn’t you be scared to death?"

Yelena carefully recalled Henry’s looks; he wasn’t handsome, his features merely complete, but it shouldn’t be enough for Jasper to nitpick at.

She had no idea what the man opposite her was thinking, but Jasper’s anger was hard to extinguish.

"Was it him, the woman mentioned in the corridor, about domestic violence?"

Yelena ate blandly, unsure what he meant; coming here at night meddling in her affairs, could Jasper be unaware of what she was going through?

How could that be possible?

"Is the young master feeling sorry for me?"

When she wanted to avoid the topic, this was how she would respond inappropriately.

Jasper observed her pale complexion, which seemed to be recovering a bit, no wonder her mouth was getting sharp. "Degenerate."

Yelena truly couldn’t swallow anymore.

She looked at the unfinished food in the bowl, its steam still rising, irritating her eyes to tears.

She was like fish on a chopping board, her fate no different from the pigeon in the soup bowl.

"Young master’s lesson is right." Yelena set down the spoon in her hand, "I’m full."

"Finish it all."

Jasper just wanted to hear her say, what if I don’t want to eat? He liked the Yelena that stood up to authority, like when she challenged Felix Wood; he always thought that was the lively Yelena.

But she obediently listened to him, stuffing all that food into her mouth.

Jasper found it became less entertaining, not interesting anymore.

For the next several days, Jasper did not visit The Sovereign Club. Nancy Alden was bored at home alone, so he had to spend time with her.

A week later.

When Jasper went there, he didn’t find Yelena in the private room.

Chester came in with Madeline Forest, "Young master, long time no see."

"Where is she?" he asked straightforwardly.

"She took the day off for some reason; she’s not coming today." Chester had other errands, so she left after greeting Jasper.

The man didn’t plan on staying but was stopped by Madeline Forest, "Young master, it’s not that she has something to do, she’s injured."

Jasper paused, "What kind of injury?"

"I don’t know either, but the man comes to see her every day, asking her for money every day. I just don’t get it; why doesn’t she break up with him?"

Madeline Forest was furious as she spoke about it, "I’ve also heard others say she used to get the highest tips, but she would share them with the girls who hadn’t made any money that day. Everyone here is money-hungry, but you tell me, what’s her aim?"

Jasper felt a chill run through him; he walked to the door and instructed Hailey Jenkins:

"Retrieve the surveillance footage from the front entrance; I want to know what’s really going on between Yelena and that man."
