The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 86: Sleeping Spell ()
A ferocious shriek escaped Princess Shariah as with a flick of her tail, she lunged for Zariah only to be sent tumbling backwards as King Askel appeared before Zariah in the blink of an eye.
"How can you still protect her?!!" Princess Shariah shrieked in rage.
"As I said, no one touches her!" King Askel reminded in a deadly tone, his eyes flashing dangerously as Luther took position at his side.
Zariah lifted her gaze to King Askel, not certain on how to react to his fierce protectiveness.
This was the time where she had hoped he would know enough to stay out of this situation, but Zariah felt she should have known better.
"King Askel!" The Sea King hissed in rage as he flicked his tail fiercely, sending the entire room trembling as the waters of the Sea were troubled.
Zariah could see the ripples all around her, another visible proof that although they seemed to be on dry land, they were in fact completely submerged in water.
Zariah had not expected King Askel would make his move so quickly, still intent on protecting her without any consideration to the fact that she could possibly be guilty.
Now he stood before her, protecting her yet standing against the entire Sea Kingdom.
"The truth will be made clear after Lady Zariah is interrogated! This is due process, King Askel! Do you really intend to stand against me?!" The Sea King asked in a deadly tone.
"My words exactly, King Himan. I do not care for due process, my stance is clear, whoever touches my queen...dies! Do you really intend to stand against me?" King Askel replied in a chilling cold tone, not the least bit fazed by the growing tension.
Zariah was stunned by the possessiveness in King Askel’s tone and his fierce declaration, completely foregoing every regard he previously held for the Sea King without hesitation.
Zariah had counted on the close ties King Askel shared with the Sea King, believing he would place aside his emotions and deal with this rationally.
That he would place the peace of the supernatural realm before her, but it astonished her to see it was the complete opposite.
’This will blow out of proportion Alpha, King Askel would do whatever it takes to protect you, we can’t let the Ethereal Domain and the Sea Kingdom fall out at this time.’ Nile said in a worried tone.
Zariah had no intentions to get the Ethereal Domain involved in the actions she had decided to take and her heart ached to realize there was only one way to quell this situation.
No matter how Zariah thought of it, as long as King Askel was here, he would protect her from the Sea King regardless of the cost and so there was only one way out of this deadlock.
Over ten more battle mers rushed into the room, the Sea King’s eyes blazed with rage as he stared down King Askel.
King Askel’s stance was calm yet the aura pouring off of him was tyrannical, a fight was bound to break out if Zariah did not interfere soon.
And if a fight broke out now, someone was bound to get hurt and there would be no going back from it.
Right now, within the Sea Kingdom, regardless of King Askel’s strength, not even he could get out of this alive if the Sea King was intent on eradicating them.
Zariah lifted her gaze to King Askel’s back, he stood before her, shielding her from everyone else, yet leaving himself exposed to her.
It was clear he held no suspicions for Zariah at all and so he did not guard against her and because he did not guard against her, he left an opening.
"You should not be involved in this, King Askel." Zariah whispered in a low tone, knowing he could hear her perfectly.
"I trust you, no one is allowed to harm you." These two phrases were his only responses as Zariah felt his wolf rise to the surface, his fingers elongating into claws.
"Take him down!" The Sea King ordered in a terrifying tone.
And as the battle mers advanced on them, Zariah bit her lip to swallow down her reluctance.
Zariah lifted a hand, a surge of magic rushing through her as she erected a barrier, blocking off the approaching battle mers.
The Sea King let out a ferocious shriek as he curled his massive tail back and slammed it into Zariah’s barrier.
Zariah knew the barrier would not hold, she did not plan for it to, she only needed it to hold long enough to get King Askel out of the way.
"King Askel!!!" The Sea King raged as he slammed his tail into the barrier repeatedly.
"Drop the barrier Mhíjani, let him come..." King Askel said in an animalistic tone,
"I cannot let you be involved in this, forgive me." Zariah whispered in a guilty tone knowing her words would attract King Askel’s attention
Zariah twisted her fingers, summoning her magic.
"Mhíjani..." King Askel began, turning to pass Zariah a glance and just at that moment, Zariah lifted her glowing fingers to King Askel’s forehead.
King Askel’s eyes widened slightly as the sleeping spell took hold over him, he opened his lips to speak but could not get any words out as his eyes fluttered closed against his will and he was pulled into unconsciousness.
"Lady Zariah!" Luther exclaimed in shock as he watched Zariah drop to the ground, cradling an unconscious King Askel to her chest.
"The supernatural realm cannot handle another war Luther. This is between the Crimson Moon and the Sea Kingdom, the Ethereal Domain should not be involved." Zariah said in a firm tone.
"But..." Luther began to argue,
"You will take him back to his quarters Luther and stay out of this! That is an order!" Zariah snapped, her gaze narrowed into a fierce glare.
Luther was clearly unwilling, as King Askel’s second in command, he had been willing to risk everything alongside King Askel to keep Zariah safe,
Yet Zariah knew Luther was reasonable enough to understand that the repercussions would be too great.
"I am a Crimson Wolf Luther, not even the Sea King can hurt me as he pleases, I will be safe. But if the Ethereal Domain were to turn against the Sea Kingdom now, then who can take responsibility for it?!" Zariah hissed in urgency.
.
"As My Queen commands." Luther finally gave in.
Zariah glanced down at King Askel, her heart constricting in guilt as she watched him deep asleep, pulled under against his will by a spell she had cast.
Zariah let Luther take King Askel as she rose to her feet, her gaze settling on the Sea King who had stopped his battle mers and watched the occurrence in bafflement.
"You know as well as I do that the Ethereal Domain is not involved in this." Zariah began in a cold tone.
"I do not wish to battle King Askel either, surrender for questioning. I will leave him out of this." The Sea King replied without hesitation.
"Luther, go." Zariah said, nodding at Luther who growled in frustration as he took King Askel out.
The barrier did not stop him and the battle mers parted to let him pass and once Luther and King Askel were out, Zariah heaved a sigh of relief.
"If even a hair on King Askel’s head is tousled wrongly during this time, best be certain the Crimson Moon will never let the Sea Kingdom off." Zariah warned for good measure.
"Can that be considered an admission of guilt to planting the flame poison?" The Sea King asked,
Zariah tilted her head to the side in amusement.
"I shall not admit to a crime I did not commit, but I am willing to admit to the crime I intend to commit." Zariah replied with a casual shrug.
"What is that to mean?!" The Sea King roared furiously,
"Well... forgive my offence...or not." Zariah replied as she lifted a finger to her teeth and bit down deep, drawing blood.
Zariah ignored the furious yells of the battle mers as she harnessed the drop of her blood, infusing it with her flame energy to form a small orb which she shot straight into Kristen’s body.
Kristen jerked violently the moment Zariah’s flame poison entered his blood stream,
"Zariah Torin! I will have your head!" The Sea King roared fiercely as they watched in horror, slamming their weapons into Zariah’s barrier unsuccessfully.
"Treyton! Use the trident!" The Sea King ordered knowing only the tide trident could dismantle Zariah’s barrier in time.
Zariah smirked slightly as she watched Prince Treyton summon the trident just as she had hoped and with a wave of her hand, her flame energy shot out, knocking Prince Treyton backwards and seizing the tide trident.
Zariah stretched her hand, wrapping it around the greatest treasure of the Sea Kingdom.
"This trident...I fear I shall have to borrow it for a time." Zariah said with a smile, her smile widening as the Sea King released a furious shriek.
