Chapter 53: Breaking A Barrier (Ch.53)

Lady Floraina halted momentarily, she was clearly shaken by Askel’s words, it was without a doubt that the Sea Kingdom would declare war on the Floral Domain in event of Prince Treyton’s death.

It was also without a doubt that although the floral domain stood a chance in battle against the Sea Kingdom, the Ethereal Domain was different.

If the Floral Domain was besieged on both sides by the Sea Kingdom and the Ethereal Domain, they would sustain grave losses even before the supernatural council could interfere.

"Alpha King, you were once a representative of the supernatural council and you know the laws of the supernatural realm best."

"The Floral Domain are within their rights to claim a life of royal blood in exchange for that of our Princess Eloneth, on orders of the Fairy Queen, Prince Treyton must die today!" Lady Floraina growled out in a fierce tone.

"You have no confirmation of the death of your princess and yet you want to claim a life? And in the Ethereal Domain? Do you think this is the floral domain where you can act as you please?! You must have a death wish!" One of the Ethereal Alphas, Alpha Juan of the Dawn Fang Pack growled out.

Alpha Juan was one of King Askel’s most loyal subordinates and a cousin brother to King Askel’s second in command, Luther.

"The Alpha King only needs to stay out of this, this is between the floral domain and the Sea Kingdom, there is no need for the Ethereal domain to get involved!" Lady Floraina insisted.

Askel snarled, his claws elongating as he stormed towards the barrier, intending to rip his way through it.

Askel was Ethereal King, although he did not wield magic, ancient magic ran through his veins as surely as blood did,

Tearing through the supposedly impenetrable barrier erected by the battle fairies was hardly worth mentioning to him, however this situation was tricky,

If Askel was to tear through the barrier and step into the array of the ancient spell, he would be at risk of suffering it’s effect as well.

And the barrier which should have dampened the effect of the ancient spell from spreading out to the Ethereal Palace or the rest of the Ethereal domain and causing unpredictable havoc will have an opening at Askel’s entrance.

This would mean Askel was risking the lives of the representatives, Ethereal Alphas and Royal Lycan warriors present by tearing through the barrier,

However on the other hand, If Askel did nothing now, Prince Treyton of the Sea Kingdom would be killed on his lands,

Knowing the Sea King, Askel knew that alone would be enough to put an end to the centuries long bond between the merfolk and the wolf shifters.

As much as Askel was confident the Sea Kingdom and the Floral domain could not defeat the Ethereal domain, he valued the bond shared between the merfolk and the wolf shifters.

Askel had met the Sea King on repeated occasions, even Askel’s father who was as selfish as they came was willing to admit the Sea King was a honorable man and Askel agreed.

If there was one ruler of the supernatural realm Askel could vouch on his honor would never stoop low enough to abduct a royal child, it would only be the Sea King.

Such unscrupulous activities sounded more like what the Fairy Queen or the Dwarven King regularly got up to just to stir up chaos in the supernatural realm.

The Sea King greatly valued the alliance, he would never breach it by inciting war.

Other than that, If Askel did not stop this madness at this moment, there was also no assurance that the barrier of the battle fairies would be strong enough to restrain the deadly effect of the ancient spell.

Even Lady Floraina could not be certain the barrier would hold, the intensity of the ancient spell was far greater than the caster, it was why this was one of the highest death attacks of the fairies.

If the barrier crashed from the sheer power of the spell, it would mean everyone present in the Royal Lycan Arena and as far as the Ethereal Palace were still at risk.

The only option was for Askel to tear down the barrier fast enough to stop Lady Floraina before the spell was complete.

Just as Askel summoned the strength of his wolf to tear down the barrier, a soft but fierce voice interrupted.

Askel’s wolf and beast howled in delight at the sound of that familiar voice that stirred their heart, the voice belonging to his mate.

Askel immediately turned to behold the perfection that was his and Askel swore even when she was clearly raging, his mate was perfection.

"You should have thought of that before casting the ancient spell of the floral domain right in the Ethereal Palace."

"Do you reckon only Prince Treyton will be harmed? You know clearly this barrier cannot hold the magic of the ancient spell, how many Ethereal wolves will die for your madness?!" Zariah snapped as she stormed into the Royal Lycan Arena.

"Whoever is unable to protect their own self can only become collateral damage, in war, people die! The death of a few Ethereal Wolves are not enough reason for the Ethereal domain to declare war!" Lady Floraina raged.

"Truly?...I should expect more, King Askel." Zariah said as she passed a glance to Askel.

Askel felt his heart skip a bit as their eyes met, all the hurt and pain from the previous night flitted away and all Askel could feel was a deep longing.

It took Askel a moment to register that his mate awaited a response from him.

Askel then had to take another moment to recall what Lady Floraina has just said, his eyes narrowing in rage when it clicked.

"Princess Eloneth is not worth more than the life of any of my wolves, I declare here and now that for every life ended today, the Ethereal Domain will claim the same from the Floral Domain!" Askel clarified in a deadly promise.

"It’s settled then, any harm done to anyone here... and that is inclusive of Prince Treyton, it will be regarded as slighting the Supernatural alliance, is this a bargain the Floral Domain is willing to accept?" Zariah asked in a chilling cold tone.

"Lady Zariah of Crimson Moon, this has nothing to do with you!" Lady Floraina snapped back.

Askel growled low in his throat, taking a step forward in rage at the tone with which Lady Floraina addressed his mate.

"You will address my mate with respect!" Askel growled out, a breath away from leaping at the offending fairy and ripping her to shreds.

However Askel stopped when he felt a hand on his arm, not restraining but calming and truly Askel was marvelled as his usually ferocious wolf immediately relaxed at the touch of their mate.

Even the beast that Askel himself could hardly control receded with no protests whatsoever.

"The Floral Domain seems to have forgotten just what the Crimson Moon stands for...to openly declare your intentions to break the alliance in my presence, how bold." Zariah murmured.

"You can’t get through the barrier set by my battle fairies in time." Lady Floraina said with certainty.

Askel’s brow twitched in rage, but he kept his gaze fixed on his mate, although her narrowed gaze was fixed on Lady Floraina, her hand still rested gently on his upper arm.

"Mhíjani..." Askel protested knowing her intentions,

Askel’s heart skipped again when she turned her gaze to him.

"It’s fine, the spell will be completed soon, let me handle this." Zariah said in an assuring tone.

Askel was reluctant but he nodded slowly knowing pacifying situations like this was infact the original duty of the Crimson Moon Pack, the protectors of the realm.

Askel watched his mate step forward, her hand dropping to her side.

"Let’s see just how strong your barrier is." She said in a dark tone.

Her hand scrunched up into a fist and Askel watched with awe as flames roared to life, engulfing her fist completely.

In the blink of an eye, with a motion that was almost too fast for even Askel to comprehend, he watched his mate leap forward, lunging straight for the barrier.

"My Queen!" Luther exclaimed in panic from where he stood,

However Askel only watched with confidence, since his mate had asked to handle the situation, he trusted his mate would only make a move she was capable of executing,

Yet Askel’s eyes still widened in astonishment when his mate slammed her flaming fist right into the barrier.

One would expect that the barrier pulsing with fairy magic would hurl Zariah back but instead Askel watched with awe as the flames spread from Zariah’s fist.

The flames engulfed the barrier, spreading at blinding speed, completely destroying every part of the barrier it touched and in the blink of an eye, the barrier of the battle fairies was completely burned to nothingness.
