The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 150: Deep Connection ()
It was late in the evening by the time Darren and Eloneth were through the first shelf and there were still about ten more which held volumes related to the werewolf race.
Such an accurate account of history was not available even to the Crimson Moon and Darren would never admit it out loud but it seemed the fairies could at least do one thing right.
History always seemed to hold the answers and Darren had hoped the history of their kind from centuries ago could perhaps have seen a case such as Zariah’s.
A case where a wolf shifter had lost their wolf, and there was only the barest life force left of the wolf side.
It was a far stretch, but Darren still believed it was much better than doing nothing.
The healer had said Zariah would regain consciousness at her own time, it could be in days, months or even years...no one could tell exactly.
Darren could not wait that long, he did not think any of them could wait that long or accept such an uncertain fate for Zariah.
The healer had given just one way out, the only way to restore Zariah’s consciousness sooner was if Zariah’s wolf was restored.
As long as they could find a way to restore Torin to health, Zariah would also be fine.
Restoring Torin had initially been termed an impossible effort by Nile, but now that even Nile believed there was hope,
Nile had entrusted the task to King Askel, the mate bond was the surest method, but Darren could not just sit and do nothing.
King Askel could figure out his own way to save his mate... Darren would also do whatever he could for his sister, otherwise he would never be able to forgive himself.
The volumes Darren had read so far told of many things but it seemed what had happened to Zariah was just as rare a millennial ago as it was now.
Many ailments and strange happenings had been recorded, there were wolf shifters born without a wolf, but Darren was yet to find anything that could possibly give an insight to Zariah’s condition.
A wolf and human were two entities entwined together, they had been made to be one and the same.
Whatever could kill a wolf would claim the life of the human too...it was impossible for either wolf or human to survive when the other died.
Yet that was exactly what had happened to Zariah and Darren was puzzled.
What exactly could harm Torin so critically and yet leave no effect on Zariah?
What was Zariah withholding from them? What truly had gone wrong?
Darren would not dare push Zariah to reveal more than she wished to, but now that it seemed to be the only method to save Zariah’s life, 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Darren wished he had insisted and done everything to get an explanation from Zariah on what exactly had happened to Torin and just how it had happened.
If they knew exactly what harmed Torin, Nile could come up with a solution for certain.
But they were all clueless... Zariah alone knew the truth of how Torin had been harmed and she was in a coma.
"Torin disappeared just like that... Zari will say nothing of how it happened. She tells me it just happened but I know there is something more, something she is not saying." Darren revealed his concerns to Eloneth.
It had been hours and yet Darren still had a lot he wanted to say, Darren had not realized he had so much bottled up within his heart.
Not until this moment when there was someone willing to listen, someone so easy to speak to that Darren found the words coming out non stop.
Darren had never been a man of many words, he was not as distant as Zariah for certain but he did not warm up to other’s easily either.
And his wolf Holt was Alpha blooded which made him all the more domineering and adverse to associating with unfamiliar people.
Yet here he was, telling Eloneth of things he would not even reveal to Allen or Nile, not because he did not trust them but because he always had to be strong before them.
Born with Alpha blood, Darren had learned to conceal his weak moments and not let them show easily.
Darren was not as good as Zariah at concealing his emotions, but he did try.
Yet how is it that it felt so natural to speak of his fears and uncertainties before Eloneth?
Darren had to wonder if it was all due to the mate bond which made him feel such a deep sense of trust for Eloneth, a kind of trust he had only for his kin.
’So this is what the mate bond feels like... this deep connection and absolute trust that makes every bond I have had before this seem inferior. So this is what it feels like...’ Darren thought to himself, his heart warm.
"If she doesn’t say it, perhaps it is because she does not want you to worry." Eloneth replied knowingly.
"I do know that. Zari places everyone else before her ownself...she always has. That only worries me more, that she handles everything herself and keeps everything to herself so we do not have to worry." Darren lamented.
"You are not much different in that regard...is it because you blood related? I am certain you also have not said anything to her of all this." Eloneth challenged.
Darren fell quiet for a moment at Eloneth’s words before he nodded in agreement.
"I have not... Zari has enough troubles, I hoped never to add to it." Darren admitted.
"When she regains consciousness...you should tell her Ren. I’m certain if you told her just how worried you are that she closes in on herself... she would not turn you away."
"Your bond with your sister runs deep... trust that bond. If she conceals her feelings, do the exact opposite...let it all out. Even it means you have to show weakness."
"Sometimes... the people we love need to see clearly just how deeply their actions hurt us..." Eloneth advised.
"I will...as long as Zari is fine, I would do anything." Darren said with a quiet sigh.
