The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 138: How Do You Feel? ()
Zariah sat, gazing down at King Askel who was sound asleep, her heart tight with concern whilst her mind was overrun with conflicting emotion.
She could not understand what she was to do from here on out, all along she had hoped King Askel was not involved in the fate of the Crimson Moon from her past lifetime,
But if he wasn’t, then just who exactly was? If he wasn’t, did that mean Zariah still had not even the slightest idea of anything related to the mastermind?
King Askel had not yet regained consciousness for the past night and half a day and Zariah had refused to see anyone else but Nile.
Zariah needed to ease her mind before she could handle any life changing reveals and she knew surely that was what Lord Melven had in store.
"He will be fine...he is Ethereal King." Nile assured from besides Zariah.
"I know...still yet, I worry." Zariah admitted with a quiet sigh.
"He is your mate, it is only natural." Nile said, nodding his head in understanding.
’He is my mate...’ Zariah thought, this fact was one she had never wanted to accept, but how could she still refuse it now?
"You may leave, I sense Kristen’s presence outside." Zariah permitted.
"But..." Nile began to argue in concern but Zariah cut him off.
"I want to be alone..." Zariah said.
Nile sighed quietly, walking up to Zariah, he leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead.
"I am here...do not burden yourself with worries." Nile said,
"I know... I know..." Zariah replied.
Nile nodded and headed out, finally leaving Zariah to herself.
Zariah’s gaze had not moved from King Askel’s face in the past hour, the peace and serenity on his features filled her heart with warmth,
She marvelled at how one person could be so perfect and beautiful both within and without, how one man could leave her so completely and utterly confused... upsetting all her convictions.
"Do you know...you claim to love me, yet you never make things easy for me...do you think it fair?" Zariah murmured as she rested her head down on his chest.
"You should have just let me hate you, you did not have to go out of your way to show me my wrong...you could have just let me hold onto this rage and hate..."
"These are all that keep me going...you have no idea, what I have been through...why I dare to overturn the seas but I do not dare feel...I do not dare love." Zariah whispered, blinking back the tears that gathered in her eyes.
"I have so much I am yet to do... I do not even know how my fate will end this time, it would be better you were my enemy, but should you stand by my side?...How am I to protect you?"
"Do you know how much danger I shall have to face? It was the Tide Trident this time, what would it be next? I have no care for my own life...but you Askel, I cannot bear to see you hurt... I cannot." Zariah confessed, her eyes fluttering closed.
"I wish to take you away and hide you behind a barrier greater than the Crimson Barrier, I would seal it with three layers of Crimson Flame so whoever approaches is razed down to ash...is it selfish of me?" Zariah asked, shaking her head at her own thoughts.
"Then you must know how I feel..." King Askel’s voice reached Zariah and her head snapped up to meet those mystifying golden orbs.
His tone was low, barely above a whisper and his eyes seemed heavy and tired but the love and adoration shining in them left Zariah humbled to be at the receiving end.
"Askel..." Zariah murmured, her throat clogged with the sheer relief that consumed her.
She did not even care that King Askel had heard all what she had said, what mattered was that he was okay.
"Come here." King Askel said with a small smile.
Zariah moved so she lay beside him, her head rested on his chest and his arms wrapped around her.
"I’m fine Mhíjani... I will battle the King of Hell and turn his domain upside down if he dares hinder me from returning to you." King Askel assured.
Zariah smiled slightly, King Askel’s words gave her a sense of confidence, calming every doubt she previously had.
"How do you feel?" Zariah asked King Askel after a moment of quiet.
"Honestly?...I want to kiss you so bad..." King Askel confessed,
Zariah scoffed in disbelief, lifting her head to pass King Askel a stern glare.
"Come on... you know..." Zariah began to reprimand but was cut off when King Askel pulled her head down to his, claiming her lips in a searing kiss.
Zariah’s eyes widened slightly but her surprise only lasted for a moment before she found herself kissing King Askel back with a passion that rivalled his.
When they parted, King Askel had a satisfied smirk on his lips whilst Zariah grunted in annoyance at her own weakness.
"I feel much better now." King Askel declared,
"I will have Nile come take a look." Zariah said, rolling her eyes as she got off the bed and stood to her feet.
King Askel’s gaze trailed down to Zariah’s feet and Zariah understood the question in his eyes even before he asked out loud.
"What happened?" King Askel asked, referring to the noticeable absence of Zariah’s tail.
"I don’t really know...it just... changed back." Zariah replied with a casual shrug.
"Can you take the form again?" King Askel asked curiously,
"I guess so, shouldn’t be much different from shifting... I don’t know really, I have not tried." Zariah replied.
"Do you know...why you can take a mer form?" King Askel asked, Zariah shook her head.
"I don’t...but Lord Melven does." Zariah said with a shrug.
"And do you want to know?" King Askel asked again,
Zariah thought over his question for a moment, whatever Lord Melven would reveal would influence everything she knew about herself and her identity,
But even so, Zariah wanted to understand because now she had realized, not only did she know nothing about the supernatural realm... even her own identity may not have been exactly what she had thought it was.
"I do...I just didn’t want to hear of it yet...not before you regained consciousness at least." Zariah revealed.
King Askel smiled at Zariah’s words, elated to hear she wanted him to be by her side during such a time.
King Askel sat up, releasing a quiet groan of pain and Zariah gaze furrowed in concern.
"Well then, let’s find out, shall we?" King Askel asked and Zariah nodded in agreement.
