Chapter 134: It’s Over (Ch.134)

Zariah gasped as she felt her strength leave her, her concentration was broken and she collapsed to a knee, supporting her weight with a hand on Gretha’s back.

"Just how many are they?!" Commander Alan exclaimed as he rushed to Zariah’s aid.

"Breathe... breathe..." Commander Alan said slowly as he placed a hand on Zariah’s shoulder, guiding her to ease her panting breaths.

Commander Alan had completely forgotten their previous differences in the face of the forsaken army and had been extremely supportive, guarding Zariah and watching in concern as the Crimson Flame drained her energy.

Zariah’s hands trembled as she lifted her gaze to the battle below, the Crimson Flame lighting up the weapons of the Northern battle mers had begun depleting in ferocity the moment Zariah had lost concentration,

Without the Crimson Flame, every forsaken that was cut down would merely rise up again and attack with even more ferocity, it was impossible to kill something that was already dead.

"I... I have never used the Crimson Flame this much, there has never been cause to. Had my father been here..." Zariah murmured but was cut off by Commander Alan.

"He isn’t but you are... Alpha. And the fate of the Northern Seas rests on you," Commander Alan reminded.

"Can you stand?" Commander Alan asked in concern as he also watched the battle play out, the forsaken army had begun gaining on the Northern battle mers.

"Yes, I’m fine." Zariah murmured right as a sword soared through the waters in their direction,

Zariah shoved commander Alan backwards and twisted to the side right in time for the sword to fly past them.

"What the?" Commander Alan murmured as a large built forsaken with skeletal wings flapped towards them, it’s eyes hollowed out yet fixed on them, or more particularly on Zariah.

The forsaken soldier released a shriek and more of it’s kind leaped up from the battle below, making their way up to Zariah.

"They know...they know I command the flames, we have to end this now." Zariah said in a grim tone.

"I will hold them back." Commander Alan agreed as he drew his sword and lunged for them first of the forsaken.

Zariah sucked in a deep breath as she rose to her feet, wielding the Crimson Flame to such a capacity required more concentration than she had thought it would,

But it was only because Zariah had only ever wielded the Crimson Flame for her ownself, she had never had to grant it’s use to so many people and her flames were not at it’s strongest,

Zariah had extracted a portion of her Crimson Flame and granted it to Darren before they had departed for the Floral Domain, she had not anticipated she would have cause to reveal her identity or wield the Crimson Flame. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Zariah summoned her element again and the Crimson Flames roared to life, lighting the weapons of the warriors.

They battled valiantly and the sounds of the forsaken exploding into fiery embers was all that could be heard.

Not far from Zariah, Commander Alan clashed against the forsaken soldiers heading for Zariah, preventing them from reaching her,

Zariah knew Commander Alan could hold his ground and so she kept her focus.

The forsaken army was quickly depleted, and Zariah steadied her heart knowing it would not be long now, she only needed to hold for a while longer.

However the universe seemed to have other plans, a powerful surge of ancient magic blasted right out of the portal,

Tossing all within close proximity to it backwards, forsaken and battle mers alike,

And then the Sea bed trembled as a massive, feet made of rock stepped through the portal.

"A golem! It’s a damned golem!" Zariah exclaimed.

There was no way the battle mers could face a golem and Zariah had already exhausted her energy, she could not battle the golem in her present state,

Zariah could not risk endangering King Askel or Nile against a golem and so Zariah knew she needed to block the entrance somehow, she had to stop it before it could emerge completely from the portal...it was the surest way to end the battle.

"Gretha... if you can understand me, can you get me closer to the portal?" Zariah said to the Killer Whale.

Zariah hoped Gretha would understand her, if she leaped off and headed for the portal herself, she would have to fight her way through the forsaken attacking relentlessly,

Zariah needed to get to the portal in time, the golem had not completely stepped in and if Zariah could close the portal, it would be unable to.

However Zariah knew the mers had their own unique way of communicating with the Sea beasts, Gretha would not understand her.

Zariah prepared herself to leap off of Gretha’s back but she was astonished when the killer whale began moving.

Gretha descended till she was just a little above the battle and surged forwards, right through the midst of the battle mers and the forsaken.

"Alpha! You shouldn’t be here!" Lord Melven exclaimed when he noticed Zariah but Zariah ignored him as Gretha surged past them till she was hovering right before the portal.

Zariah glanced at the portal, she could feel her power waning and so she gritted her teeth to summon every reserve of Crimson Flame she had within her,

Zariah then aimed her flames at the portal and let loose, the blazing blue flame surging out of her hands in a fiery torrent, consuming all the forsaken emerging around the sides of the golem’s feet and burning right through the portal.

Zariah was not certain she could close the portal, every magic bends to the first blood lycans...all but dark magic and the power of darkness.

The Crimson wolves were creatures of light, they could not command the darkness but perhaps the Crimson Flame could destroy the portal.

’The Creator’s Flame is yours to command Zari... trust it...’

The words of her father rang in Zariah’s mind and Zariah’s heart clenched in determination.

’It is just a portal of dark magic, I will scorch it down!’ Zariah thought in rage,

Zariah poured out her flames without reserve, her eyes glowing brightly as the Crimson Flames licked up at the portal,

The Northern battle mers all witnessed the sight in awe as they battled the remaining forsaken.

The portal sparked and crackled before it shattered, the golem tossed back through it with a loud, earth shaking growl.

"It’s over... it’s over..." Zariah murmured, panting as her eyes fluttered closed to steady her breathing.

In Zariah’s distraction, she did not sense the presence of the merman on the other side of the portal, the merman who had just emerged from the Sea Dome, in his hand was grasped the Tide Trident.

The merman lifted the Trident he had snatched from Kristen and with a flick of his tail, he lunged forwards, the Trident aimed for an unsuspecting Zariah.

This was the scene Zariah’s eyes came open to see, the glinting blade of the Tide Trident soaring towards her, grasped by a raging Lord Imain.

Before Zariah could even muster another thought, a shadow arrived before her and arms encircled around her protectively.

All Zariah heard was a gasp of pain and Zariah froze up as she watched Lord Imain retract the Trident with sneer.

"Askel..." Zariah whispered in horror, her hands trembling as she lifted a hand to rest on his back and felt the warmth of his blood coating her hand.

A bone chilling fear gripped Zariah as King Askel swayed slightly in her arms, his head resting on her shoulder as his sword dropped out of his hand and sank down to the bottom of the sea.

Zariah’s arms encircled around him tightly before he could fall, and she dropped to her knees, her hands trembling as she clung unto him,

"The Tide Trident is an ancient artifact...it won’t heal." Zariah murmured in panic as she felt King Askel’s pained breathing.

The world had come to a stand still around Zariah, the battle was completely forgotten as she held unto King Askel, too terrified to pull away from him.

Zariah’s heart constricted in pain, she wanted to scream, to scream and ask him why he would do such a thing to himself... why he would shield her with his own body.

But Zariah knew there was no need to ask why, she already knew it well enough... she was his mate, more than that...he loved her.

"Zari...let me take a look at him." Nile’s voice broke through Zariah’s haze and Zariah lifted her glowing gaze up to him.

"You should never have step foot into my Northern Seas." Lord Imain’s voice reached Zariah.

Rage...That was all she felt, rage unlike anything she had ever felt before, rage so powerful it consumed her every being, dispelling all other feelings but one... the need for revenge.

And at that moment, a voice Zariah had never thought she would ever hear again roared through her mind... the voice of Torin, Zariah’s wolf.

"Rip him to shreds!" She roared, cold and deadly.
