Chapter 189: Chapter 189: Falsehood

Even Moira Young didn’t expect it would be another five kilometers to get there, having already experienced how difficult the road was this afternoon.

After seeing everyone quiet down, the director continued, "We should definitely arrive before lunch tomorrow, then everyone can rest at the school, and we’ll have lunch there."

"Director, can we bring our own food?" a girl interrupted.

The director glanced at her, "If you don’t mind the weight, you can bring as much as you like."

"From the moment you leave tomorrow, you’ll be constantly in front of the camera, so think about what you’re going to do."

"The most important thing I want to say now is that after lunch, everyone needs to teach the students at the school together; you can sing or draw, just showcase your talents."

The girls started whispering among themselves again, basically deciding not to bring anything for tomorrow.

"Director, what time can we get back tomorrow?"

The director announced, "We’ll start heading back at 4 PM, aiming to be on the bus by 8 PM. We’re definitely traveling at night, so be prepared."

Upon hearing this, the girls got gloomy, and even Moira Young felt tired just thinking about it.

However, fortunately for Moira, her curiosity about the mountains outweighed her resistance, so she could accept everything the director said.

"Alright, I’ll do a headcount, then we all go to the staff’s host family’s place for dinner." After the director finished speaking, he started counting everyone, as losing someone in the mountains would be a major hassle.

While the director wasn’t paying attention, Elena suddenly sidled up to Moira Young and asked casually, "Do you have some connection with the director?"

"No."

"Then why do you get to stay alone? I’ve looked around, and the place you’re staying is even better than the director’s." Elena didn’t believe Moira Young had nothing to do with the director.

Moira Young ignored her.

"Are you and the director...?"

Moira Young found the question really boring, "Elena, I think you could focus your energy on gaining fans."

Elena wanted to roll her eyes but was afraid the camera would catch it, so she forced a smile, "I have principles, unlike you; I’d never stoop to any means, and a casting couch situation is non-existent for me."

Moira Young replied puzzled, "First, I don’t stoop to any means to achieve my goals. Second, it’s not as dirty as you say."

"Alright, the headcount’s done. Everyone gather and follow the staff to dinner." The director commanded the group.

Moira Young instinctively stood at the back of the group, where there were fewer cameras, while Elena, who was talking to Moira Young earlier, naturally went closer to the cameras to get more screen time.

The group went to the host family’s place where the staff stayed for dinner. The side dishes for this meal were all brought by the crew from Aleridia and were simply prepared, with several benches pushed together to form a table for the girls to eat first.

The plan was for the crew to eat whatever the girls left behind.

Looking at the food, several girls started complaining, though not too openly. When they picked up the disposable chopsticks brought by the crew, each of their foreheads was tightly furrowed, probably without even realizing it.

"Ah!" Suddenly, a girl named Crystal dropped a piece of meat on the ground, and it got covered in dirt.

"Sorry, I didn’t mean to..." Crystal looked up in horror at the crew, and tears started rolling down her face as she looked at them.

"Don’t cry, don’t cry, it’s just a piece of meat! It’s okay!" The girl next to her hugged her to comfort her.

"I just feel sorry for the staff; they’re helping us with luggage, carrying those heavy cameras, and yet they have to eat what we leave over, and I wasted a piece of meat..." Crystal cried harder the more others comforted her.

Moira Young stared at her blankly, suddenly feeling that everyone in this world is quite the actor.

She remembered Crystal as the girl who, on her first night in the crew’s dormitory, tried to help during a kitchen argument when everyone fell but got harshly refused.

Off-camera, Crystal was quite fierce and wasn’t willing to be friendly with others.

But in front of the camera, she acted as if she got along well with everyone and had a soft personality.

"I’m sorry... I’m so sorry to you all, please don’t be mad at me..." Crystal cried painfully in front of the lens.

The other girls inexplicably started crying with her and then all hugged each other in comfort.

What a beautiful and heartwarming scene!

Then, the picture froze on Moira Young, who alone picked up a piece of green vegetable with her chopsticks, and as she was about to put it in her mouth, she faintly felt many eyes staring at her.

Moira Young looked around and realized that all the staff were filming her.

What... was wrong with her...

The director suddenly called cut and said, "Moira Young, come here for a moment."

Moira Young put down her chopsticks in confusion, glanced at the girls’ resentful eyes, and then slowly walked over.

The director motioned for Moira Young to step back a bit so others couldn’t hear their conversation.

"Director, what do you want with me?"

"Moira Young, just now... as you saw, the girls were hugging and comforting each other, and that scene, if aired, would be very touching, but you..." The director hesitated, afraid of offending her.

"Why don’t you join them for a few seconds, and I’ll record the shot."

Moira Young flatly refused, "I don’t want to do that."

"Why?"

"If the contract requires me to, naturally I’d follow the contract’s processes, but if it isn’t written in the contract, I’m sorry, Director, but I can’t do it."

The director was a bit troubled, "Let me put it this way: the scene of the girls hugging each other could enhance public favorability, which in turn could increase exposure and fan numbers. If all eight girls are hugging, and you’re the lone one eating off to the side, people might criticize you."

Moira Young understood the director’s words clearly.

But so what? She didn’t care.

"Besides, look how sadly Crystal is crying. Her popularity will definitely soar because of this tomorrow," the director proudly stated.

Moira Young paused, suddenly thinking of something, and asked, "Director, was Crystal’s crying scene staged by you?"

The director didn’t expect Moira Young to be so direct, but he wasn’t indirect himself, "Yes, I staged it."

Moira Young suddenly thought of what Elena said about casting couch situations; her first reaction was that Crystal and the director might have something going on, but considering that she had no special relationship with the director, maybe Crystal’s situation was similar to hers.

Moira Young sighed softly, not wanting to think any further about assorted inconsequential things.

"Director, I want to go see Grandma Sean now, so I’ll be heading off." With that, Moira Young left.
