Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Carrying Her on My Back

Moira Young was leaning against a tree alone to rest, trying to regain her strength as quickly as possible. She needed to be ready to head back to where they were staying once Sean returned.

The time passed by second by second, each second was an ordeal.

The trees here were particularly tall, and Moira Young didn’t dare to move, nor did she dare to think about what might be around her.

"Moira—" Sean’s voice suddenly came from a distance.

Moira Young turned her head in a daze, unsure of the direction the voice was coming from.

"Sean—" Moira tried to respond.

"Moira—" Sean seemed to have gotten her response.

"Sean—where are you—!" Moira cupped her hands in front of her mouth, making a small megaphone shape to make her voice louder.

"Just go straight—my grandma fell—!" Sean shouted.

Moira panicked a little, Sean’s grandma had fallen?

Feeling anxious, she ran forward without worrying about whether she could see the road or not, following Sean’s directions to go straight.

Sean, perhaps afraid Moira would veer off course, kept shouting to guide her with his voice.

Soon, Moira felt that she was getting closer to Sean’s voice.

Then she saw a beam of light in the distance, and Moira became somewhat excited, shouting loudly, "Sean! I can see you!"

Sean’s flashlight moved a bit, "Sister, I’m here!"

Moira hurried over and, upon reaching Sean, saw his grandmother sitting on the ground with a large basket of kindling beside her.

"Grandma, where did you hurt yourself?" Moira anxiously squatted down to ask.

Sean’s grandma looked very kind, and though the setting was dark, Moira could feel her warmth.

"Child, I can still walk." Sean’s grandma tried to stand up, but couldn’t manage to do so.

"Sister, my grandma sprained her ankle." Sean pointed out his grandma’s right foot.

"I’ll try to carry you on my back first." Moira offered. Despite being a girl, she was quite tall, and Sean’s grandma was quite petite and frail, making Moira think she could carry her.

"Sean’s support is enough for me." Sean’s grandma said, somewhat embarrassed.

"Let me carry you." Moira reached out her hand to help her up.

"Don’t dirty your clothes." Sean’s grandma was genuinely embarrassed.

Moira felt a pang at her nose, thinking it was no time to worry about such trivial matters.

"Grandma, just relax and let me carry you, I’ll definitely get you home safely." Moira looked at her with determined eyes.

Sean’s grandma didn’t know how to refuse, and Sean chimed in, "Yeah, grandma, Moira is very good."

With that, Sean hoisted the basket that looked even bigger than him onto his back, "Let’s go, grandma."

Moira carried Sean’s grandma, slowly heading down the mountain.

After some distance, Moira started to struggle, and Sean’s grandma clearly felt her body shaking.

"Child, quickly put me down, let Sean support me." Sean’s grandma moved a bit.

"Grandma, don’t move!" Moira hadn’t expected Sean’s grandma’s movements to make it even harder for her.

"I promised to carry you home, and I will keep that promise." Moira focused on maintaining her breaths evenly.

Sean’s grandma dared not move again nor speak, and so the three of them finally got close to home.

Outside Sean’s house, there was some commotion. Upon approaching, they saw that it was the documentary crew all gathered there.

"What on earth is Moira Young doing? Getting special treatment and then going missing! Isn’t she wasting everyone’s time?"

"I can’t figure out what she’s thinking, probably got some issues."

Moira heard the girls gossiping about her, but she paid no mind to it.

"Isn’t that Moira Young over there!" Suddenly, one cameraman shouted, pointing in the direction where Moira was returning.

Everyone, including the director, turned to look in Moira’s direction, and the director shouted excitedly, "Good thing she didn’t get lost!"

Moira carried Sean’s grandma to the doorstep, and from the moment the cameraman spotted Moira, the focus immediately shifted to her.

"I’ll take grandma inside first." Moira said indifferently, then without a glance at them, she went straight inside.

After setting Sean’s grandma down, Sean’s grandma looked at her gratefully, tears almost spilling out. She had lived here her entire life and had seen many city folks who acted nice outwardly but inwardly despised the people from the mountains. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

This time, Sean’s grandma felt that Moira genuinely wanted to help her.

"Child, you’re so kind, thank you so much." Sean’s grandma wanted to hold her hand, but as she lifted it, she put it back down, realizing how dirty they were from chopping wood.

"See, grandma, I told you, sister is very good, not like those city people you talked about!" Sean said proudly, as if he had discovered a treasure in Moira.

"Sean, grandma, the crew is still waiting for me, I’ll head out." Moira smiled.

"Alright, go on now."

Moira left the house reassured, first finding the director and requesting, "Director, Sean’s grandma twisted her ankle. From what I can see, it seems quite serious. Could our crew’s accompanying doctor take a look at her?"

The director readily agreed, not just because it was Moira’s request, but because he knew the scene of Moira carrying Sean’s grandma back would surely be a hit.

"Go fetch the doctor right away." The director said to the staff.

"Who does she think she is, acting like she’s doing charity." Elena rolled her eyes and muttered softly from the side.

Because the director was present and cameras were rolling, no one continued with Elena’s topic of discussion, making her feel awkward. She then thought for a moment and pretended to admire Moira, saying, "You’re really amazing."

"Did you really carry her down from the mountain?"

Moira gave her a cool glance, "I think if you encountered the same situation, you would do the same as I did."

Elena paused for a moment before smiling and saying, "Of course, I definitely would, just hope there’s a camera around next time when I do."

The sarcasm in her words was obvious to everyone.

Moira didn’t mind.

A while later, the crew’s accompanying doctor arrived, but Moira didn’t follow them inside.

The director still had something to say.

"Everyone, gather around, I have something to announce."

"Today, you all worked very hard, and the cameramen captured it all, so your effort won’t go to waste. And tomorrow will be a very, very important day."

"We’ll gather at 6:30 in the morning, then go to the elementary school where we’re volunteering. It’s about five kilometers from here, and we—"

Before the director could finish, the girls started exclaiming, "Five kilometers? Are you kidding me?"

"Are we here to teach or to train for a marathon?"

The director glared at them, "Don’t interrupt me while I’m speaking!"
