Chapter 187: Chapter 187: Sean

"Come on, director... we’re all girls here, there’s really no way to walk this..." some of them began to complain, "Are we here to join a show or suffer? It’s just incomprehensible."

The director said sternly, "Cut the talk! Either go forward, or drop out!"

With those words, no one dared to complain anymore.

"Alright, I know these couple of days will be tough for everyone, but think about it in another way, the more pitiful you appear in the show, won’t your fans feel more sympathetic? Wouldn’t sympathetic fans vote for you? Everyone is doing all this to achieve the ultimate goal, which is to gain renown and be known by the public after the show. Don’t think those seemingly glamorous international stars became famous easily; each of them went through efforts and hardships beyond what you can imagine, the hardships they endured far exceed the challenge of carrying luggage for three kilometers." The director was somewhat angry.

"Let’s set off." Seeing that his words had truly sunk in, the director calmed down.

Everyone grabbed their luggage and began to walk, but Moira Young had it easy because she had brought very few things.

By the time they reached their destination, a few of the girls with particularly heavy suitcases were almost breaking down, all ending up in tears.

The three-kilometer road they had just traversed was full of potholes, making it extremely difficult to walk. Now, seeing the place they were supposed to stay at night, they couldn’t help but feel both angry and sad.

In front of them was a dilapidated mud house; though it was only mid-afternoon and the sun was still shining, the inside was as dark as night.

The windows were all made of paper, and the corners were damaged. The room was full of spider webs, and even the beds were dusty...

"Director... how is this place for living!" Elena couldn’t hold back any longer, she wished she could buy a ticket back home right now!

"Yeah, director, this place is totally uninhabitable! Is the crew messing with us?"

The director was very calm, "I gave you a heads-up already, didn’t I? You brought blankets, right? Lay them down, and you can sleep."

Moira looked awkwardly at her small blanket and couldn’t help but swallow hard. She wished she had brought a sheet...

The girls finished venting but had no choice but to bite the bullet and start making the beds.

The director walked over to Moira and whispered, "Come with me."

Moira paused for a moment, unsure of what was going on, and followed him out.

The director led her to another house, which belonged to a local resident: a grandmother living with her grandson, whose parents were away working. This was considered the wealthiest family in the mountainous area, and the house was well-kept.

"You’ll stay here; I’ve already talked to the owner."

Moira wanted to ask why she was being treated specially, but thinking about how her small blanket wasn’t enough for staying in the previous house, she quietly accepted.

She walked over to the bed, which indeed was clean and had a sheet laid out, with a faint smell of laundry detergent.

Moira placed her things beside the bed and took out her little blanket.

"Hello, sister." A small boy’s voice came from behind Moira.

Moira turned around in surprise and saw a short young boy with a dark face, around eight or nine years old.

Moira suddenly smiled, "You’re the little master of this house, right?"

"Yeah, I live with my grandmother; she’s out chopping wood." The boy stood at the bedroom door, not coming in.

"Why don’t you come in?" Moira approached him.

"Grandmother said the new sister is a city person and might not like us being too close." The boy paused.

Moira was taken aback and knelt down in front of him, taking his hand, "I like you very much. How old are you?"

"I’m nine years old." The boy replied, his eyes intelligent and bright.

Moira calculated, "Then you should be in third or fourth grade?"

The boy shook his head, "I’m in second grade."

Moira didn’t understand the education level here; she thought maybe starting school late was common.

"What’s your name?"

"Holden Hale," the boy thought for a moment, "but my grandmother calls me Sean. You can call me Sean too, sister."

"Alright, my name is Moira Young, you can call me Sister Moira from now on."

"Sister Moira, you’re so pretty, like a fairy," Sean exclaimed, his smile sweet and filled with delight. It was the first time he had seen such a beautiful sister as Moira, with skin so white, clean, and smelling nice.

"You little rascal!" Moira was a bit embarrassed by the compliment from this little rascal and couldn’t help but tap his nose.

"Come, I have a gift for you." Moira led him in.

Sean looked at Moira expectantly, "What gift?"

Moira took a pen out of her bag, a very pretty mechanical pencil, "For you."

Sean took the mechanical pencil excitedly, "I saw one before and even wrote a few words with it!"

"Before? You mean they don’t sell them here?"

"Someone brought lots of backpacks, notebooks, and pens before, but after taking pictures, they were collected back," Sean recalled, "but our language teacher has one, though hers isn’t as pretty as Sister Moira’s."

Moira didn’t think much of it, perhaps she was too tired to fully process his words.

"But I didn’t bring the lead needed for the mechanical pencil; there’s only half in there, but it should last a while. I’ll bring more lead for you when I come by next time, okay?" Moira felt a bit apologetic.

"Okay! Thank you, Sister Moira!" Sean seemed truly fond of the mechanical pencil.

Both the gift giver and receiver were very happy.

Sean looked out the window, "Sister, it’s getting dark, and grandmother isn’t back yet; I need to find her."

Upon saying that, he wanted to run, but Moira quickly pulled him back, "It’s too late; how can you go out alone?"

Sean looked at Moira with confusion, in his mind, there was no concept of being alone, "Grandmother hasn’t returned yet."

Moira frowned slightly, "I’ll go with you."

"Okay then." Sean took a flashlight, and together with Moira, they headed into the mountains to find the grandmother.

In autumn, it gets dark fairly early and already, not long after they had left, the sky turned dark.

Honestly, Moira was somewhat scared; it was her first time in such a place, and she was extremely unfamiliar with it.

Sean walked quickly, full of energy, almost hopping along, while Moira followed behind, worried that she might lose sight of him.

"Sister Moira, hurry!" Sean shouted.

Moira struggled to keep up, already out of breath, "Sean, are you sure grandmother is this way?"
