Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 344: Words I Couldn’t Say
The moment those words escaped my lips, I immediately regretted them. I thought that it probably would have been much better if I had just stayed quiet.
How did I end up saying something so lame?
“I guess it’s been a while," I continued hesitantly while feeling awkward.
"I guess you’ve gotten a chance to catch up with your sister. Hopefully, it makes you feel better," Bradon replied casually.
"Yes, it’s great that she’s back. We had a lot of time to catch up and talk," I said before trailing off. Silence settled in between us again, and I found myself fidgeting in my seat.
"I think Diana has probably realized by now that I’ve ditched her to handle the event on her own," Bradon said before letting out a soft laugh.
I turned to stare at him at his unexpected words and reactions. I honestly didn’t think that Bradon would abandon both Diana and his duty to act out his role as Anthony just like that.
“I’m sure that she can handle it," I replied shortly before trying my best to smile a little.
"I have to say that your sister is very possessive of you. I’ve honestly had a hard time finding the opportunity to see and talk to you because she wanted to keep you all to herself," Bradon teased lightly.
"I apologize for my sister’s behavior. She’s usually not really like this, at least not this bad," I said, laughing naturally. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Suddenly, it felt like the ice wall between us had broken down completely, and I found it a lot easier to talk to Bradon as our words seemed to flow naturally.
I didn’t want to tell Bradon that Diana didn’t want me to meet him ever again because it sounded too extreme and I wasn’t sure how that would make him feel. Honestly, I was very tempted to tell him just to see his reaction, but I didn’t dare to do it. Although I had many things that I wanted to say to him, I couldn’t find the courage to start the conversation. Instead, I decided to turn the tables on him to see what he had to say.
"Well, since you skipped out on the event to come see me, I guess there’s something that you want to say to me?" I asked while feeling my heart beat faster in my chest.
"I did. I thought that we should talk about what we should do from now on," he said, his eyes studying my face intently.
What we should do from now on...
It felt like I was put on the spot, and I wasn’t sure what I wanted us to do from now on. In fact, it was probably because he phrased the question using the word ’us’ to signal our collective action that made me hesitate. I wondered what he wanted to do, and then I began wondering if it was possible that we could want the same thing. The moment that the thought crossed my mind, I killed it because I knew it was impossible. All I wanted was to do what was right and return things to how they were before.
"I don’t think we have to do anything different from what is expected of us. I guess you’ll still have to keep on playing Anthony’s role, but now that Diana is back, I guess there is no need for me to continue posing as my sister any longer. I guess this works out better for me as well because I can focus on supporting Desmond’s plan, and hopefully, he will give me what I want soon enough," I said while keeping my eyes staring straight ahead at the city lights sparkling down below.
Suddenly, the night wind felt colder and harsher than before as it blew against my face and bare arms. I felt a shiver run through my body, but I wasn’t sure if it was because of the sudden drop in temperature.
“Are you feeling cold?” Bradon asked, and then I felt his arms around my shoulders.
"Is that what’s important right now?" I asked before I could stop myself. When our eyes met, I felt my core flutter as my heart began racing so fast that I could hear its thudding sound ringing in my ears.
"Of course, you might get sick if you’re out in the cold wind for too long," Bradon replied smoothly.
For a moment I wondered if he was just desperately trying to change the direction of our conversation and I didn’t miss the fact that he hadn’t at all reacted to what I had told him about our next move. I could still recall the many arguments that we had before about this matter, but now that I was back and taking these next steps was about to happen, I was surprised by Bradon’s calm and collected attitude.
