Chapter 304: Homewrecker

Just as I was about to answer the question, a voice shouted loudly and drew the attention of everybody including myself.

“You homewrecker!!!”

I could not pinpoint who was the one who had yelled that out in the large crowd. Right after, other people started yelling out similar accusations.

“How dare you come back here?!”

“Shameless woman!”

“Homewrecker!”

I had no idea who in the crowd had accused me of being a homewrecker but those words almost made me break out in a smile. There were just too many people and I couldn’t tell where the voice was coming from. Soon enough, I figured out that it didn’t matter anymore because that was just the very start of what seemed like an unstoppable wave of countless people screaming out similar accusations. A parade of people poured into the airport holding signs as if protesting against my return.

Now that I think about it, something like this didn’t happen before when I was banished from the country. I wasn’t sure how much of these people’s fury contributed to the king’s decision if at all at that time. Sometimes looking back I considered that it was purely bad luck on my part that this issue also coincided with the king’s decision to end my relationship with Desmond. Although being at the center of such hatred felt a little traumatizing back in the day, I had to say that I had almost forgotten all about it.

The sudden appearance of this group of people brought back some sickening memories that I didn’t want to recall. I wanted to roll my eyes upwards toward the sky as I wondered what the security team was doing to let these people into the airport’s entrance gate. I was such a controversial figure, I should have known that just as there were many people who supported me, there were also just as many people who hated the fact that I had returned, and it was clear that they had not forgotten what I had done nor have they decided to forgive me in the least.

“Homewrecker! Homewrecker! Homewrecker!”

They continued to chant and it seemed like the attention of the reporters was now focused on capturing the scene of the mob. The protesters held up so many signs but I was glad that I couldn’t read all of them from where I was standing because I was certain that none of the signs showcased any pleasant words. I stood glued to the spot as I wondered what I was supposed to do. It felt like the perfect timing for Desmond to make his appearance so that the people’s attention would be directed to him and also so that he could help me get out of the airport.

Gradually the sound of yelling got louder and then people were throwing things around in the crowd. Suddenly, it seemed like there would be a clash between the group of my supporters and those who disagreed with my return with the reporters quickly picking up on the news. I didn’t want to believe that violence had broken out because of my return to the country. The security guards quickly tried to sort out the situation while a few bodyguards stayed behind to make sure that I was safe.

“Come this way, please...” one of the guards told me.

Although I knew that I had to get to safety, I couldn’t help worrying about the people involved in the violent outbreak.

“Is there a way to stop them?” I asked the guard as I started to panic a little.

When I agreed to go through with this plan with Desmond, I hadn’t expected that something like this could happen.

“It’s Anthony Vulkan!” A group of people yelled loudly and captured everyone’s attention including my own.

Anthony is here...?

Everyone’s attention seemed to be captured by Anthony’s arrival at the scene. My heart skipped a beat before beating wildly in my chest as I waited in anticipation to see the man that I have long to see. Everyone seems excited to see Anthony in person and that wasn’t surprising given his celebrity status.

“Why are you suddenly here?”

“Are you here to welcome Miss Dahlia back home?”

The reporters quicker hurled their questions at him. Instead of answering their questions, Anthony only walks along the path that was cleared for him by his bodyguards. I couldn’t stop staring at him as I struggled to believe that Anthony was here to welcome me back home.

After all this time, why did he choose to appear now?

It just didn’t make any sense. It was when he came closer and our eyes meant that everything started to make sense to me.

Bradon? Why is he here?

Even though no one could tell that the man right in front of them wasn’t Anthony but his elder brother, I could tell right away now that he was close enough for me to see him clearly. Although I should have known that this was the most likely explanation, I couldn’t help feeling a slight sinking sensation in the pit of my stomach. My disappointment didn’t last long before I found myself smiling quite naturally at Bradon. It didn’t matter why he had chosen to appear when he did, because his presence surely did help improve the situation.

“You’re here...” I said to him softly as if I still found it hard to believe that he was actually standing right beside me.

“We should head back soon,” Bradon whispered in my ear as he came to stand right by my side.

I could feel everyone’s eyes on us, so I decided to smile at him politely while reminding myself that Bradon was now supposed to be Anthony.

“Mr Vulkan, isn’t your wife with you?” One of the reporters asked quite pointedly.

I could hear the suspicion and anticipation in the reporter’s voice as he noted that my sister was missing. Of course, there was no way that Diana would turn up because I was now acting as myself.

“She’s not feeling so well today, so I’m here in her place to pick up her younger sister,” Bradon replied smoothly as if he had anticipated this question in advance.
