Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream-Chapter 24: Already caught?
Kyle stepped off the train after riding back and forth across several stations.
During that time, he had assessed dozens of people. A faint twitch beneath the eye, the slow tapping of a heel against the ground, a subtle shift in breathing. Each tiny detail revealed more than most would ever notice.
God’s Eye was far more profound than he had first assumed. If he tried to list everything the skill could do, he would fill an entire page and still leave it incomplete.
’Seriously, it deserves its SSS rank,’ he muttered inwardly.
What surprised him, though not entirely, was the strain and the duration he could maintain it.
He had used God’s Eye for nearly half an hour today. Aside from a slight dryness in his eyes, there was no burning sensation, no sharp pain. The system had warned him that the strain during combat would be far worse, but he had already discovered the most efficient way to use the skill.
Ask the system. Observe the optimal result.
Now, he walked down the street, not toward home but toward a convenience store. After the workout and extended inspection earlier, hunger gnawed at him.
With his hands tucked into his pockets, he headed forward.
He walked.
And walked.
And walked.
"Hm?" Kyle frowned.
By now, the store should have been visible. At the very least, its signboard should have appeared in the distance.
He slowly pulled his hands out of his pockets and scanned his surroundings. "Where exactly am I?"
It felt wrong. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
He was certain he had taken the correct turn after exiting the station.
Then—
[Host, there is Genesis residual in the air.]
Kyle stiffened.
Someone had tricked him.
His gaze sharpened as it swept across the empty surroundings. He could tell he was still close to the station. Faint announcements drifted through the air.
Yet he had been walking for over twenty minutes.
And somehow, he had gone nowhere.
He ran.
The certainty struck him like a blade to the spine.
Someone was watching.
He had felt it the moment he entered the station, a faint itch at the back of his mind. He dismissed it as paranoia after last night’s events.
But now—
Now it was real.
He sprinted harder.
Whoever this was had already realized he was different. Maybe they even knew he was Awakened.
But how? The system had said God’s Eye did not release enough Genesis to stand out in a crowd of ordinary passengers.
Kyle did not slow down to analyze it.
He ran.
He needed to break out of this loop.
His chest burned. He had already exerted himself earlier, and now his shins throbbed with every step. The impact against the pavement sent sharp vibrations up his legs.
Sweat gathered along his brows and slid down his temples. His eyes darted left and right, searching for movement. For a shadow. For anyone.
Nothing.
The street was empty.
No headlights.
No footsteps.
No distant chatter.
Even the city hum had vanished.
It felt as if he had stepped into a hollow world, an endless stretch of road that bent back into itself, dragging him to the same invisible point over and over again.
His breathing grew ragged.
Finally, he stopped and leaned against a nearby wall, pressing a palm against it to steady himself.
Cold.
At least, his senses hadn’t been dulled
Then a notification surfaced before his eyes.
[Host, you should use God’s Eye.]
’But... the sensors...’
[Host, this individual appears to be an experienced Nightwalker. They were likely waiting for you to lower your guard before striking. The host cannot afford to hold back.]
Right.
If a Nightwalker had trapped him inside this distortion, then there was a strong chance they already knew he was a rogue Nightwalker. Not to mention, he was dressed almost the same as last night.
There was no point hesitating.
’Use God’s Eye. Scan the surroundings. Find the bastard.’
The command triggered instantly.
A sharp burning sensation tore through his eyes. Stronger than before. Either the output required more Genesis, or he had already strained the skill too much earlier.
His vision distorted.
Then it transformed.
The entire world shifted into layers.
Buildings became hollow frames. Walls turned transparent. Trees lost their bark and flesh, reduced to internal structures. It was as if reality itself had been peeled open under an x-ray.
Kyle stood still, breathing heavily, as his gaze pierced through every surface, sweeping across the false street, searching for the one anomaly that did not belong.
And then...he saw it...a silhoutte on his left.
It was standing quite close and waving at him.
Just then, the God’s Eye was disabled and he was standing face to face with the person
No longer hiding.
There she was...a woman in her twenties, her silver hair fell over her shoulder, a white eye patch covered her left eye and dark tattoos around her neck.
The woman appeared imposing and undeniably beautiful despite the scar on her face.
However, nothing allowed him to lower his guard as Kyle stared at the woman with his eyes narrowed.
The woman hummed and said, "Mind taking off that mask before we talk?"
Kyle didn’t respond. He was looking around...the surroundings appeared different now. Maybe she took down whatever spell she has cast.
He was just thinking of sprinting away, when suddenly,
"Well, you can try running but can you hide from me...Astortia Kyle?"
"....!!"
