Star Gate-Chapter 1468: Comprehension, Intimidation (III)
“What New Martial spy, that guy doesn’t understand New Martial at all,” the woman transmitted with a laugh. “Those of New Martial cultivate core origin. The ripples from a major world’s great dao are very noticeable and can be determined from one glance alone! Fellow daoist, you don’t have the slightest hint of core origin about you. How can you be from New Martial?
“In addition, that world heavily discriminates against outsiders and almost never accepts them. It hasn’t been long since they’ve appeared in the chaos. Under normal conditions, no exalted emperor would brashly march under their banner.
“Their Human King keeps causing trouble everywhere. Everyone thinks that disaster is upon them soon. Even us chaos wanderers don’t consider joining them!”
Despite New Martial’s obvious strength and having more than one seventh rank exalted emperor among its ranks, chaos wanderers weren’t tempted to throw themselves on its mercy. Although it was stronger than a typical major world, one would have to be crazy to join that band of lunatics!
The New Martial Human King was completely out of control. He’d been quite busy over the years and picked fights everywhere he went. How many people and exalted emperors had he killed by now? Did one dare serve under such a figure?
Of course not!
While it was difficult to determine what path of dao this newcomer walked, the woman could tell that he didn’t practice core origin. Core origin dao gave off a distinctive presence. Those familiar with major worlds could identify with a quick glance which major world another came from.
It was more possible that the young man was a Red Moon spy, since Red Moon had taken in numerous outsiders. But New Martial... was quite isolationist and had never accepted foreigners.
Thus, if an exalted emperor didn’t give off a core origin presence, then they were absolutely not from New Martial.
This was why Big Claw and the female exalted emperor were so unconcerned in front of Li Hao. They were willing to speak frankly of why they wanted to march against New Martial because New Martial did not have allies. They were a lone wolf faction!
As domineering as they were, they had no friends. New Martial played with New Martial, and that was it. Even their notable powerhouses that did not practice core origin, such as the Sun God, were wreathed in core origin. In addition, heavyweights at that level had no need to conceal their identities.
Seventh rank exalted emperor!
That kind of existence was only weaker than some masters of the world, simply due to the lack of a dao universe and a world. Seventh rank was a high rank exalted emperor—they would not deign to pose as a newbie.
“Fellow daoist, do you have a lot of people on your side?” Li Hao transmitted with an upraised brow. “According to what I know, New Martial citizens are quite willing to self-detonate. They’re famously powerful and incredibly savage. They sound terrifying...”
“There’s no need to fear. We have several third rank exalted emperors on our side and even a fourth rank exalted emperor in the lead! Our opponents are not strong—I don’t even mind telling you who they are.
“They’re just two fringe exalted emperors from New Martial, possibly even regarded as a shame of the civilization!” The woman smiled. “We wouldn’t dare provoke a premier exalted emperor, that would be a horrifying experience!
“But this time, our targets are two fringe characters—the Exalted Celestial Pole Emperor and the Pagoda King, someone who surrendered from the civilization prior to New Martial! They’re respectively second and third rank and known for being cowardly. They’re also famous for running away...”
Li Hao’s heart shook. The Pagoda King and Celestial Pole. Hot damn! I know both of them! I know Celestial Pole all too well! But... what are they doing off Yin and Yang?
“I actually know a little about these two.” The young man started. “It’s said that they never stand if they can lie down, that they’d never leave Yin and Yang unless a life-threatening war is at hand. How would they step forward to give us a chance to hunt them down?”
“This will be news to you then! We’re not certain of the details either, but they truly have left their home and are traveling through the chaos. Not only will their bodies belong to us after they die, but Red Moon will also pay handsomely!
“Some of the neighboring major worlds are also offering bounties against New Martial! We’d be feasting at many tables, not just one. The best thing is, they’ll all pay up!
“New Martial has offended too many people over the years and people are more afraid of Red Moon as that major world is more prone to go on the offensive!
“The New Martial Human King has gone on a general slaughter through the universe, bringing untold pressure to the masters of some major worlds! They’re deathly afraid that he’ll use the excuse of being lost and invade at the drop of a hat. Their reputation is even worse than Red Moon!
“We are unable to fight premier exalted emperors, but killing one beneath fourth rank will result in benefits that rival the gains from a fourth rank. This is a tremendous opportunity for those of us who wander the chaos!” The female exalted emperor kept up a steady string of persuasion because she found Li Hao pleasing enough.
Number one, the young man was decently handsome.
Number two, he kept his composure in the face of both insult and praise.
Number three, his bearing was uncommon and there was a scholarly air about him. Although he'd been a bit overbearing before, he remained unfazed by an exalted emperor’s provocation. That alone proved that he was not ordinary.
All of these factors combined made her decide to invite him to join their operation.
Such opportunities were too rare for newly ascended exalted emperors. How much fortune could a first rank exalted emperor come across?
Li Hao hadn’t wanted to agree at first, but he was shocked at hearing two New Martial exalted emperors walk out of Yin and Yang. Celestial Pole was one of the two! Why?
...I know, they’re here to look for Silver Moon!
But that kind of information should have been kept classified. Why had it leaked? Were there traitors among New Martial?
That wasn’t outside the realm of possibility!
Li Daoheng and the others had already betrayed the civilization before, why could there not be more traitors?
Not to mention, it wasn’t like all of New Martial approved of the ideals advocated by the Human King and Supreme Zhang. They might rebel if they found the notions too outrageous.
But the information had been leaked so quickly!
New Martial should’ve decided to send out exalted emperors only after Silver Moon reappeared in the chaos. That would’ve been roughly a month ago, but news had already made it to Skyward!
That... was too quick.
This was the chaos universe, after all, not a world. It was terrifying for messages to be passed along so swiftly.
Li Hao hadn’t been interested before, but now his interest was piqued. “What if New Martial powerhouses seek vengeance after we kill them...”
“There’s no need to worry about that! The heavyweights have their own plan in place for something like that. The Human King doesn’t dare come to Skyward as there would be no avenue of retreat for him when he is surrounded on all sides! He’s fine for now because his whereabouts are hard to pin down!”
The Human King being perpetually lost caused him to come and go mysteriously. It was the unfortunate fact that stymied everyone who wanted his head. He said he was going for Red Moon, but he wandered every which way instead. One had no idea where he would pop up next!
Because of this, it was impossible to encircle him. People did catch up to him once, but it was the Human King that captured his pursuers instead!
None were left alive!
Who dared go after him now?
The Human King disappeared once more after detonating Utmost Dark’s dao universe. It was most dangerous when he was in the shadows. New Martial was a very conspicuous target, but the Human King operated from the dark by himself. One never knew when he would appear next, not even New Martial themselves.
Li Hao finally understood at this point. There were a lot of people who wanted to hunt down the Human King!
They sought his head because he didn’t follow the rules, was incredibly strong, and had cultivated for a very short period of time!
Li Hao was a genius, but he’d just set foot into first rank exalted emperor. Could he become a seventh rank after a thousand years? No one could say for certain! Yet the Human King who’d killed countless people was a seventh rank exalted emperor!
That was utterly astonishing!
“How long until you guys set out?” Li Hao asked.
“A year from now! We’ll need some preparation and travel time. There are some others that we’re waiting on, this isn’t something that can commence the next second. One year isn’t a long time!”
One year?
That indeed wasn’t long. After entering the chaos, Li Hao realized that one year was nothing at all. It was completely negligible if all of it was spent on travel.
He was only a first rank; there would be fourth ranks on this operation. He could fight a third rank, but a fourth rank... in his dreams.
He might stand a chance if he ascended to second or third rank. As for sending a message to New Martial... Who knew if the power of time could trace back to New Martial again? Even if he could, the two had left Yin and Yang. New Martial couldn’t contact them within the chaos either!
Therefore, the best use of this year was to propel himself into second rank as well, maybe even third rank. Only then would he stand a chance of defusing the crisis for the two!
“I’m in!” Li Hao transmitted. “Thank you for your high opinion of me, big sis! I wouldn’t have a chance of being a part of this if it wasn’t for you. Are the other factions on Skyward going to join as well?”
“They’re different from us. Even if they do, they won’t be tackling the weaklings. Their goal will be the ones wandering the chaos, such as the Sword Sovereign, Exalted Blood Emperor, Suppression King, and Exalted Emperor Qin Feng!
“These names belong to mid rank exalted emperors!” the woman sighed with emotion. “We can only handle some of the weaker ones. The stronger ones aren’t easy to handle since they’re heavyweights of major worlds!”
Li Hao understood; he looked on gravely. New Martial truly had no fear when it came to provoking enemies. Such was the case before and such was the case now. Look at this, even people outside of Red Moon Region are thinking of how to take you guys down. You guys really have a knack for getting into trouble.
Just look at me in return! I never cause trouble! I keep a super low profile even when I’ve killed an exalted emperor.
Of course, he wouldn’t be able to do anything if his opponent was too strong either. He could only commit to doing his best.
“Fellow Daoist Big Claw,” the young man suddenly looked at his guide. “I’m going to be lingering in Skyward for a while. Please keep me company during this time. As for Dragon Observatory, please inquire for me if it would be possible to join. I’m interested, but I need some resources.”
Big Claw’s heart quailed! He didn’t dare recruit this fellow anymore, even though there would be a lot of benefits in it for him. The person in front of him was of unknown status. If he joined with ulterior motives, Big Claw would be in for it if his guest ran off!
Although that would be up to the inspection of the exalted emperors and not be relevant to him, he would be in trouble if he was implicated in anything.
