Chapter 64: The Shadow Guardians. (2)

The shadows began to writhe, as if they had a life of their own, or rather, as if they still retained some life.

Lloyd noticed it, and tensed up.

It still wasn’t over?

He still hadn’t caused them enough damage?

His instinct told him it was so, his mind too.

After all if the mission hadn’t been completed it must be because he still hadn’t defeated all his enemies.

The shadows writhed on the ground, until they joined together again, forming a mass of shadows, which began to mold itself.

The shadows came to adopt a liquid-solid consistency, it was like a sculpture made of a dense liquid.

The first thing the boy could perceive was a jaguar, made of dense shadows, which still smoked a bit of darkness.

Its characteristic spots shone a bright purple color, as did its eyes that glowed threateningly, observing Lloyd.

However, the shadows still hadn’t finished molding, giving that creature a rider.

It was a goblin, also made of shadows.

Its head was protected by a feathered helmet, which reminded Lloyd of Aztec aesthetics.

In one hand it carried chains with which it was attached to the animal, and with the other, a strange artifact in the shape of a curved snake.

It was like a kind of magic wand.

"Interesting, so this boss has different phases," the young man commented with a smile, while stroking his jaw.

More than scared, Lloyd was excited.

His previous opponents had left much to be desired, however now at last someone intimidating appeared.

Would this be a worthy enemy?

The goblin didn’t give him time to find out, he spoke, pronouncing words in an ancient language Lloyd couldn’t understand.

His voice was almost like a whisper, but sounded like an acclamation that resonated throughout the entire cave.

At the same time, the goblin had raised his kind of wand, conjuring a gigantic blood-colored fireball.

"So you’re a mage! Perfect," the young noble responded, while he also prepared his magic.

The goblin lowered his arm, pointing forward with his wand. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Upon doing so, the fireball shot toward Lloyd at full speed, however, he had already prepared a counterattack, shooting an immense gleaming ice stake toward the fireball.

Both attacks collided.

The ice inside the stake evaporated, generating an accumulation of pressure that ended in an explosion.

The flames dispersed and the stake exploded, both attacks canceling each other out.

But at that moment, the goblin had launched itself at full speed toward Lloyd, mounted on his jaguar.

The goblin tried to shoot him with a spell from closer, but Siegfried intervened launching a powerful descending cut with his two-handed sword, using overwhelming force.

The shaman goblin had to change his strategy, and instead of attacking Lloyd he conjured a magic barrier that blocked Siegfried’s attack.

Or at least for an instant, because as soon as Siegfried exerted a bit more force, the magic barrier broke and the sword continued its trajectory.

But fortunately for the shaman, the jaguar managed to jump in time and get out of the sword’s cutting range.

"So he can also cast spells without incantations," Lloyd analyzed while summoning ice stakes right where the jaguar was going to land.

It was a good trap, however the shaman acted in time, pointing at the ice stakes with his wand and conjuring heat, melting them.

As soon as he landed, the jaguar jumped again, since Siegfried had again launched a descending attack with his gigantic sword.

The cut hit the ground, however this time something curious happened, a pressurized air cut was sent from Siegfried’s sword, as a strategy to finally seek to damage the shaman.

The goblin quickly raised his wand, expelling a powerful gust of air that dispersed the wind cut that had been sent to him.

"I see, that jaguar is agile and elusive, and the shaman is extremely versatile," Lloyd analyzed, observing the situation carefully.

The jaguar propelled itself onto one of the columns, heading toward another at full speed.

Upon reaching the other column, the jaguar did the same process.

The beast began to propel itself between the columns, gaining more and more speed, and while doing so, the shaman was reciting a spell.

"As I supposed, when the shaman recites a spell, his spell is more powerful," Lloyd deduced, though it was obvious, it was a necessary observation, since it made one thing clear.

Lloyd couldn’t let the shaman finish conjuring.

Though a part of him longed to observe the spell his enemy was about to perform.

His mind, logical and analytical, knew it was a very bad idea.

In a few seconds Lloyd faced quite a big dilemma, but finally his analytical part won, though he had little time left.

He quickly employed Leviathan’s pupil, seeking to find out what the jaguar’s next movement would be, the next column the animal was going to propel itself on.

As soon as he knew, he used his spiritual arts on that column, heating it so much it became magma in an instant.

Such a sudden and powerful movement had cost quite a bit of energy, but it had been worth it, since when the jaguar reached that column, it couldn’t propel itself, but crashed directly into a column of molten magma.

Right at that moment, Siegfried acted, propelling himself at immense speed toward the shaman, bringing his sword down on him.

The jaguar was suspended in the air, still making its jump, after having traversed the magma column, so they had no foothold to get out of the sword’s range.

It was a death sentence.

The shaman analyzed the situation in less than a second, he couldn’t cancel the spell now, it would be a great waste.

However, using magic was the only salvation, whether conjuring a shield to protect himself or a platform for his jaguar to propel itself.

No, both ideas were bad.

In the little margin he had, conjuring a shield was difficult, and even doing so he knew that warrior could pierce through his shield easily.

As for the second option it was something similar.

The jaguar wouldn’t have time to propel itself in time, even if he conjured a platform, so there was only one solution.

The goblin jumped, propelling itself from the jaguar while still conjuring the spell.

Siegfried’s sword descended with violence, splitting the jaguar in half, which dissolved becoming shadows.

It was a shame to lose his companion, but it was also a necessary sacrifice.

His spell continued, black clouds began to appear above Lloyd.

And just when the shaman was about to fall to the ground, the clouds roared, releasing a powerful lightning bolt toward Lloyd.
