Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Leaving Much to the Imagination

Holding an insulated food jar, Maya Marshall was forced to a halt, her brow furrowing slightly.

"Assistant Dawson, don’t you recognize me? And you’re stopping me?"

Of course, Kevin Dawson recognized Maya Marshall. He was also well aware of her complicated and rather ambiguous relationship with Adrian Lancaster.

However, just before entering his office, President Lancaster had specifically instructed that no one was to disturb him and Wren Sutton.

"Ms. Marshall, please forgive me for being blunt, but President Lancaster doesn’t like to be disturbed while he’s working."

Maya Marshall was dismissive, her attitude arrogant.

"I’m different from the others. Adrian won’t be angry with me."

"Besides, Aunt Sterling asked me to come bring Adrian some food. There’s no way he’d get angry at me for that."

Unmoved, Kevin Dawson glanced at the food jar in her hand.

"Ms. Marshall, you can give the food jar to me. I’ll make sure to take it in once President Lancaster is finished with his meeting and I’ll pass along your kind regards."

Seeing that Kevin Dawson was completely unyielding, Maya Marshall grew impatient. Her expression soured, and without bothering to say another word, she tried to force her way in.

Kevin Dawson blocked her, his stance even firmer than before.

"Ms. Marshall, please conduct yourself with dignity. You cannot bear the consequences of disturbing President Lancaster’s work."

Maya Marshall heard the warning in his tone. Feeling utterly humiliated, her shame turned to fury.

Nearly everyone on the top floor of The Rhodes Group knew she was Adrian Lancaster’s girlfriend. For Kevin Dawson to be blocking her from Adrian’s office now... anyone who didn’t know the situation would think she had fallen out of favor.

"Kevin Dawson, you keep blocking me, and the first thing I’ll do when I become Mrs. Lancaster is fire you."

Kevin Dawson was unfazed by the threat. He gestured for her to leave. "Ms. Marshall, I’m afraid I can’t do that. Please, go back."

Unwilling to give up, Maya Marshall started shouting Adrian Lancaster’s name at the office door.

His expression unwavering, Kevin Dawson called over a few security guards.

"Please escort Ms. Marshall out. Be careful not to hurt her."

Maya Marshall struggled fiercely, but seeing it was no use, an idea suddenly struck her. She closed her eyes and pretended to faint.

Seeing this, Kevin Dawson couldn’t take any chances and immediately rushed over to help her up.

"Ms. Marshall, are you all right?"

Maya Marshall rammed her elbow back, striking Kevin Dawson hard in the stomach.

Kevin Dawson: "..."

Taking advantage of the chaos, Maya Marshall burst into the president’s office.

She entered to see Adrian Lancaster sitting upright at his desk, in the middle of a video conference.

Adrian Lancaster’s expression was stern. He motioned for her to be quiet.

Maya Marshall, realizing how rash and graceless she must have looked forcing the door open, felt a pang of guilt.

She tiptoed over, placed the food jar on his desk, and pursed her lips as she sat down quietly across from Adrian, her eyes filled with adoration as she watched him.

A few minutes later, Adrian Lancaster ended the meeting and closed his laptop.

Maya Marshall broke the silence. "Adrian, I hope I didn’t interrupt your work."

"No," Adrian Lancaster replied, his expression unreadable. "Why the sudden visit to the office?"

Beaming, Maya Marshall stood up and opened the insulated food jar, releasing the rich aroma of expensive ingredients.

"I made this soup myself. Aunt Sterling is worried about you, and she asked me to bring it over for you to try."

She walked around the desk to stand in front of Adrian Lancaster, raising a spoon to his lips to feed him the soup herself.

It was an offer he couldn’t easily refuse, so Adrian Lancaster politely took a sip.

’It tasted mediocre. Not nearly as good as Wren Sutton’s soup.’

"How is it? Do you like it?"

Not wanting to crush her spirits, Adrian Lancaster replied, "It’s fine."

Maya Marshall understood. ’’It’s fine’ actually means it’s not very good.’

"I guess I’ll just have to keep practicing."

"Take your time. There’s no rush. No one’s a natural at making soup."

Maya felt a sweet warmth spread through her at his comforting words. She couldn’t help but sit on Adrian Lancaster’s lap, wrap her arms around his neck, and nestle against his chest.

"Thank you for your encouragement."

Adrian Lancaster’s eyes darted toward the door to the private lounge. He stood up, subtly dislodging Maya Marshall.

"I appreciate the gesture. Let me walk you out."

Maya Marshall clung to him again, wrapping her arms around his.

"I’m in no hurry to go back. I want to spend more time with you. I came for another reason besides bringing you soup."

"What is it?" Adrian Lancaster asked.

Maya Marshall looked up at him, her eyes shining.

"Aunt Sterling sent me to ask if you and Wren Sutton have finalized your divorce. She wants me to see the papers. Can I?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Adrian Lancaster: "..."

Just then, Wren Sutton walked out of the private lounge.

Her long hair was draped over her shoulders, her collar was in disarray, and her cheeks were flushed. She exuded a seductive, feminine allure.

She was like a delicate rose freshly bathed in morning dew—breathtakingly beautiful.

Seeing her, Maya Marshall was utterly shocked, unable to believe her eyes.

"You... what were you doing in there?"

’And looking so... suggestive, leaving so much to the imagination.’

Maya Marshall seethed with hatred.

’No wonder Kevin Dawson wouldn’t let her in. Wren Sutton must have been in here seducing Adrian, clinging to him.’

’Bitch!’

Wren Sutton walked over gracefully, her delightful scent filling the air.

Adrian Lancaster’s dark eyes narrowed slightly. Detecting a flash of cunning in her gaze, he remained silent and impassive, simply watching her.

"Wren Sutton, I’m warning you. Stay away from Adrian from now on."

Maya Marshall angrily staked her claim, positioning herself between Adrian Lancaster and Wren Sutton.

Not to be outdone, Wren Sutton retorted, "I’m curious. In what capacity are you warning me?"

"I am now Adrian Lancaster’s fiancée," Maya Marshall blurted out.

Adrian Lancaster’s brow furrowed. "..."

Wren Sutton shot back sarcastically, "Unfortunately, Adrian Lancaster and I are not yet divorced. That makes your ’fiancée’ title rather illegitimate."

"What did you say?!" Maya Marshall looked as if she’d been struck by lightning. "You’re not divorced?"

"Otherwise, why would I be here?"

Wren Sutton hadn’t originally planned to come out of the lounge; she was going to let Adrian Lancaster and Maya Marshall do whatever they pleased in the office.

But then she had a change of heart. ’Hiding in here makes me look like some pathetic, cowardly mistress having an affair. It’s ridiculous.’

So she had deliberately rumpled her collar, mussed her hair, and put on a provocative air for no other reason than to get under Maya Marshall’s skin.

Crushed, Maya Marshall turned to look at the man behind her in disappointment.

"Why haven’t you divorced her? Are you going to ignore Aunt Sterling, too?"

Adrian Lancaster’s expression didn’t change. "I will explain it to my mother myself."

"And what about me? Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?"

"Maya, some things are..."

In anguish, Maya Marshall covered her ears, tears streaming down her face. "I’m not listening! I won’t listen to a word! I’m going to go tell Aunt Sterling right now."

With that, she turned and stormed out.

When she didn’t hear Adrian Lancaster’s footsteps behind her, she began to panic, but she also hardened her resolve. As she opened the door, she deliberately twisted her ankle, crying out in pain as she collapsed to the floor.

In that instant, Wren Sutton saw a black shadow flash before her eyes.

By the time she realized what had happened, Adrian Lancaster had already helped Maya Marshall up and was carrying her to the sofa.

"It hurts so much..." Maya Marshall sobbed softly, her face contorted in pain.

An unpleasant feeling churned in Adrian Lancaster’s stomach. He turned to look at Wren Sutton and commanded, "Go get the first-aid kit."
