Chapter 94: Chapter 93: Luring Ocean

Eleanore was overwhelmed by all of this. What is the reason for this system notification to pop up in front of him right now? Just why?

Is it trying to hint that this is the right time to get rid of Verbena? But there was someone else also involved.

At first she thought it was Adena but now that she had heard that conversation. She was sure that it is a man and Adena is nowhere closely related to any of this.

"Elle!" Victor pulled her back out from the screen. "I am so sorry. I should have stood up for you. I should have fought for you, even if it meant going against my own master." He says, feeling upset over his incompetence.

Eleanore’s worried expression melted on hearing that. It sounds like the one pleading and begging her to wake up was him. At an extreme side, corner of her heart she wished it was Caelestis but this also isn’t that bad.

She gently held the back of his palm and squeezed it. "It’s okay. This was not your fault. None of this was. So don’t blame yourself." She said,

On the other side, her brother, Hael, stood in front of the main gate of the Lancaster mansion. He had no desire to come back here and face Caelestis, if he could. But he had no choice. The report had been delayed a lot and he cannot go on like this for any long.

He walked past the courtyard and entered the mansion. The butler had been standing there to welcome him and guide him to Caelestis’ study, as if he didn’t know where it existed.

Caelestis was waiting for him to arrive. He had a lot of things to say to his friend and more than anything, he wanted to ask for forgiveness.

If this had happened three months ago, he wouldn’t have cared at all, but now something has changed within him.

"Bring some tea." He said to the butler, but before he could leave to obey the order, Hael stopped him.

"There is no need. I am not here for tea." He stops Caelestis from thinking that this is a friendly meeting. It was formal, completely official, that’s all.

The butler was stunned; he stood there, in his place without moving until Caelestis gestured him to. He bowed respectfully, before closing the door behind him.

"It looks like some nobles are involved with the rebels." Hael starts, as he walks closer to Caelestis’ desk. "I suspect that the head of this rebel group is also a noble. A noble who hates the crown."

"I see." Caelestis finds it hard to digest that the rat is hidden among them. "What about Koa? Is he alive?"

"No. I had to kill him. Anyways, the mission never said to bring him back alive."

"Right, there is no way he was going to reveal who their leader is." Caelestis supports Hael’s thoughts.

In all this uproar and Eleanore’s kidnapping, Hael had forgotten about one thing. The Dark mage Eric. He said they would meet again, when he comes for Eleanore. But should he mention this to Caelestis?

No!

"I met a dark mage there." Hael left out Eleanore from that conversation.

"From where?" Caelestis was shocked to hear about it.

In the Kingdom of Seraphine, there has never been a hint of magic but that doesn’t mean it does not exist. Magic exists in the far east and north but has never reached west before. It’s so strange that dark magicians are coming to the west. Is this because of the war in Zhipher?

"Unsure."

Caelestis pulled out a letter sealed with a royal seal and handed it over to Hael. "I have scheduled an appointment with the king this week." He says.

Hael nods and turns to leave, but Caelestis is not done talking yet.

"I made a mistake, Hael. I should have believed her after everything that had happened." He began, but Hael had no intention to listen to his crap.

"It’s not your fault." Hael didn’t turn around. "It was my fault that I ever believed in you. I should have known that you would never choose my sister over that woman and yet I believed in you." He scoffed. "How foolish of me!"

"Hael—"

"You should say sorry to Eleanore and also say thank you to her. If it wasn’t for her. I would have killed you by now." Saying this he leaves the room, without giving Caelestis any chance to say anything at all.

As Hael marched to the main hall, he found someone standing there, waiting for him. The silhouette of that person was that of a woman and Hael knew only one woman that lives in this mansion.

Stella.

She is the same woman who led Eleanore into the state she is, right now. Because of her, she was kidnapped and because of her, there is this rift between him and his best friends.

Everything is happening because of her!

Hael despises this woman. It has been more than two weeks and his sister isn’t even awake yet. Then how dare she stand up in front of him all fine and okay?

When Stella found out that Hael had come to the Lancaster mansion, she couldn’t wait to meet him. She vaguely remembered him kissing her and passing that antidote through her throat. It always sent flutters down her stomach when she thought about it.

She had also heard that Eleanore had fought her life for that antidote and Hael tried his best to have her drink it.

Honestly, she couldn’t be more thankful to these two siblings. She owed them her life.

Hael was about to pass by her but Stella held his arm and stopped him.

"Please, take me with you." She pleads.

"Why?" Hael asked, shoving away her hand from his arms. Hatred, pretty evident in his tone and disgust visible on his face.

Stella felt a pit of guilt forming in the depths of her stomach. She gulped as she answered him, "I want to see her and thank her."

"Wow! How kind of you? After putting her in that state, you wish to thank her? However, she doesn’t need that right now, so leave her alone." He said firmly.

Stella couldn’t quite understand how this was all her fault, she had been unconscious for too long and the servants here weren’t being very transparent with her.

"I’m sorry. I truly value her friendship and I want to check on her. I have been worried for her, ever since I woke up."

"You should be!" He takes another step out of the main entrance, but is pulled back by Stella. She had pinched a small area of fabric in his coat, her gaze fallen to the ground completely.

"Please, duke. Let me see her." The voice and intentions sounded so genuine that Hael couldn’t stop her anymore. He was determined to not take her along, but his resolve wavered when he saw that hint of sadness and self-hatred on her face.

Moreover, can he truly blame her, this was all just a coincidence, after all.

"What about Caelestis?"

Her gaze rose to face his. His pinkish red eyes meet her ocean blue ones. They collided and he felt mesmerized like any other man, who has ever met their gaze with her. Before he could get pulled into that space, Stella spoke up.

Her expression changed from guilt to excitement as she heard that. "You don’t have to worry about that. Thanks to Eleanore, I am free from him now." She says, before letting go off his coat and turning, walking a little ahead but stopping again.

"Please wait here, duke. I’ll go get my stuff in a minute." She says, before disappearing above the staircase.

He was shocked with everything he had heard earlier. Eleanore had helped Stella get rid of Caelestis, how?

Minutes later, Stella arrived with a small briefcase and was almost dragging it all the way to the entrance where Hael was patiently waiting.

He grabbed the bag from her and started walking ahead. It wasn’t his intention. He didn’t want to take that bag from her but something told him to and it felt good to do it.

A smile hung on his face as he walked back to his carriage, with Stella, tagging along just a little behind him.

In sheer contrast, there was darkness and heartbreak looming over the first floor window, from where Caelestis was peeking at.

Three months.

It took only three months for him to lose everything to his foolishness. His years old best friend because he messed up, his love because of that stupid bet he had with Eleanore and a new friend, he had only just acquired.

What a useless creature he is! He lost everything and could do nothing about it, nor can he blame anyone for it. For it was his fault at the end.
