Chapter 95: Chapter 94: Some People Can Never Change

Eleanore’s interference had made a lot of changes in the novel in the mere fraction of the past three months and fifteen days. Some were pretty good for most of the characters of ’Revenge is my only desire.’ While some weren’t as profitable as before.

She had drastically changed the character of Caelestis in a good way. He could finally feel apologetic and thankful for what others have done for him. At the same time, he could quickly sense cracks in any of his relationships and could feel guilty for creating those cracks.

However, there was something Eleanore couldn’t change in him and that was his savageness. A character can learn to feel new feelings but can never evade their character, can they?

Caelestis has and will always be that hot head monstrous grand duke, the whole noble society knows him as.

Caelestis, darts out of his room. The thick fabric of his coat rustled with the shiny marble floor beneath him. News had arrived while the others were out, in the Sinclair mansion. The knights who had been sent to investigate the tower, brought back three people.

He was curious to find out who had the nerve to evade his strong security and kidnap his guest, under his nose. From the moment he found out that Eleanore had been kidnapped from the lands of his estate, he had started searching for the culprits.

It took two whole days for his soldiers to find out where she was kidnapped from. The place where she was tied up, tortured and from where she ran away and came back. His investigation could have been so much faster had he asked Hael, but he never received that chance.

For the last two weeks, Hael never left his sister’s room. His food was sent there and he used a guest room on the same floor to freshen up. Without a word, Caelestis had understood that Hael did not have any intention to even see his face, forget talking about the incident that made him hate the entirety of Caelestis’ existence.

He stood in front of the small prison room’s door built in his mansion, underground. Not many knew about this place, except for Hael.

The butler appeared along with two other knights and handed over Caelestis’ sword to him. With that he entered through the creaking sound of the old wooden door and walked past a few empty cells, until the far end, where the prisoner’s were locked.

Among them, Caelestis spotted a girl. Her blue skirt burned and turned brown, her face covered by her half burned, wet hair and she looked weak, as if she could die at any second.

The two strong-looking men beside him weren’t in a very different situation. They two seemed like they were standing at the edge of a cliff, which would lead them to hell.

"We suspect that there might have been a few more." One of the two knights who had come with the butler said. "However, the others never entered the tower."

"How long did the fire last?" Caelestis asked, as his eyes searched for any clues. His gaze kept landing over that woman. Something telling him that he had seen her somewhere.

"Approximately. From midnight, till dawn. The fire went out on its own since it had nothing left to burn on." The other one took up the question.

"Then how did these three not get burned?" Caelestis continued to glare at the woman in the blue dress.

"They were not in the room." He replied.

"Open the cell." Caelestis ordered.

The two soldiers behind him exchanged looks, before opening the lock. That lock was the only thing keeping those three safe from their master and now it was gone.

Caelestis entered the dusty, dark cell and walked up to that woman first. With the help of his sword, that had yet to be taken out of its scabbard, he raised her chin. One side of her face was drastically burned, it almost looked hideous and unrecognisable, until her wet hair from her face slid down and revealed the other side.

His eyes widened from surprise. He was utterly stunned and couldn’t believe his eyes. Verbena Mallory. The only daughter of Viscount Mallory.

How could she?

He squatted in front of her and asked a single question, removing his sword from below her chin.

"Why did you do it?" His words were heavy, laced with anger.

Verbena gulped on hearing that. She never thought that next time she opens her eyes, she would find herself in this dirty, smelly cell, where not a single light could break in. She hated it here, and complained all day long, but there was not a single man in the prison room to hear her complaints.

Eventually, she felt tired and lost all her strength and voice to hunger. It was not entirely her fault. How come she is the only one here? What is so great about Eleanore that everyone seems to defend her no matter what she does?

That Eleanore, she ruined her face completely, and yet why is she kept in this cell? It should be her?

"Because—" His lips parted, as she thought of an answer. " —I hated her. To the core. I hate her, don’t you, grand duke?" She asks, her eyes glinting with life again, as if she still had an opportunity to get out of here alive.

"That woman— she took everything from you, she poisoned your love. Remember?" She lets out a sinister smile, which quickly vanishes when the color of Caelestis’ eyes deepens in disgust.

"You had poisoned her. Verbena? Do you take me for a fool? Ha!" He frowned, annoyed by this woman’s sadistic and useless muttering.

"Grand duke—"

"What I want is answers, so stop beating around the bush. Tell me. Did you do it alone or was someone else involved in it?" He asked again.

Verbena gulped as she wondered whether to mention that man or not. She thought for a while before answering. "No. Just me. She deserved it. No! She deserves worse. She deserves death." She barks.

Caelestis straightened his back again and sighed. He knew there had to be another person involved here but this dumb woman was not going to tell him, at any cost. Thus, there was no use of wasting his time here.

He pulled out his sword from its scabbard, immediately sending chills down her spine.

"You cannot kill me, grand duke." She yelled out in fear. "I am a noble."

"Who cares? Even if you die today, no one will know. Moreover, how is anyone going to identify you with that horrible face?" He raises his sword in the air. "Dying is the best option, right?"

Caelestis’ sword cuts through the air and splashes blood on the ground.
