Chapter 81: Chapter 80: Head Maid Lilith

For seconds, Eleanore continued to stare at her. Her mind runs in various thoughts about this person. ’Is she a fool or does she consider me a fool?’ Eleanore wondered.

It is a given that no one would do gardening without the accurate tools to be used for it. Is she doing this to strike a conversation, perhaps?

"I do not like gardening. I just wanted to take these flowers for someone special. That’s all." Eleanore answers, her eyes still not moving from Verbena’s face, at all. "However, that’s not important. What are you doing over here? How did you get in?"

"I called her." If one unwanted face was not enough, another one arrived from behind.

Her day had been completely ruined. She knew from the moment these faces popped up that something bad was going to happen. They are omen!

"I was feeling lonely and wanted company. So I invited her here." Adena explains.

"Did you take the duke’s permission?" Eleanore inquired.

"I don’t need to."

"But the duke wouldn’t want her here."

"Why? —" Verbena jumped in. "Why would the duke not want me here?"

"Because you insulted Stella, on the day of the royal celebration, remember?"

"You did that too, yet you are standing here." She argues.

"Because I have changed. On the other hand, you. I don’t see any great changes in you. You just changed sides to continue tormenting her." Eleanore was truly exhausted with these fools.

Even she could see that Adena is trying to use her. How can she not?

What a foolish girl!

"I changed sides, because you betrayed me." Verbena looked like the spitting image of Adena when she said that. Just a little dumber than her.

"Yeah, right. Whatever." She didn’t have strength to argue with a brat and instead just exited from the rose garden. Leaving behind an embarrassed Verbena and angry Adena.

As Eleanore started out of the pathway, she bumped into the gardener. He had come there to perform his daily duties, but Eleanore just added a few more in it . She had him clear the thorn on the roses. For she didn’t want Stella to get hurt if she ever tried to touch it.

Once the thorns were removed, Eleanore splashed some fresh water on the roses to have them shine, before nicely wrapping them into a silver foil, herself.

Her face suddenly lightened up when she saw those lovely roses in her hand. Red roses were never her favourite and she didn’t really hate them. But today she found out that they are not all that bad, she never knew they held such a charm.

When Eleanore opened the door, she was not surprised to find Caelestis in his own room, sitting next to quiet Stella. He has been doing this since yesterday. He would simply sit next to her and then look at her, as if he had a lot to say but always chokes himself when he tries to.

On the other hand, Stella too only continued to stare at the small window in the room. She doesn’t even look at him, yet when Eleanore appears, her gaze moves to where she is.

"You are going to kill Victor at this rate." Eleanore says, as she closes the door behind her.

"He won’t die with just that." He replies, his eyes falling on his fidgeting fingers, when he sees Stella’s gaze finally move. Not for him, but for Stella.

How strange? They were both only responding to Eleanore’s words and movement.

He was not able to open his mouth in front of Stella, even once and yet replied to everything Eleanore said, without fail.

"You should smile now. Even though she is not speaking or responding yet, she is still alive and healthy." Eleanore sets her roses in the vase next to the only window of the room, near the couch. "The doctor said, this is because of shock or because she was asleep for so long, that her brain is not able to become stable yet. Give her time."

She turns to share a glance with Caelestis who was sitting on that little chair, that was never once used but is now taking the weight all day long. How tired it must be?

Eleanore chuckled a little at that thought. Her mind had become so relieved that now it was thinking about nonsense things

"What’s so funny?" Caelestis frowned.

"Nothing." She placed the sachet on the table and that’s when the head maid entered the room, with the breakfast for Stella.

Caelestis takes the breakfast and starts feeding Stella. To Eleanore’s surprise, she was actually eating it by Caelestis’ hand and was not complaining at all like yesterday. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

She smiled as she left the room, following the head maid. "What is your name?" She asked.

"Lilith." The head maid answers with a bow.

"Thank you Lilith for helping me that day." Eleanore found out that Lilith was the one who called Caelestis, from Marina. "Are you new here?"

"No, My lady. I have been working here for over thirty years and was promoted recently. I might look younger for this position, but I have seen and learned a lot in these thirty years." She says, straightening her back again.

"I see." Eleanore was somewhat feeling proud for this old woman she had just met. "You are very brave Lilith. I like you."

"Thank you." Lilith bowed again, before disappearing through the stairs.

By the time Eleanore came back in, Caelestis was done feeding Stella, and was ready to leave. "I thought you would stay longer."

"How can I bully your dear friend any longer? You were instantly worried for him when you saw me here, doing nothing." Caelestis said in sarcasm as he left the room.

He didn’t know why he said that. All he knew was that he felt this faint anger in his nerves, when Eleanore mentioned Victor. ’She only cared about him. What about me?’ He thought, as he left the corridor.

But was it truly anger?
