Chapter 80: Chapter 79: Unwanted Guest

Eleanore still could hardly believe that Stella had truly awoken. She was back and although this made her extremely happy. In the back of the mind, her thoughts continued to contradict with hers.

The fact that everything has gone on the right track and her mission might actually be over, made her sad. She was still not ready to leave.

Hael was yet to arrive, he should be back by this Saturday, which means there are three more days to go. If she must go back, wouldn’t it be best to at least see him once before leaving?

To make this wish come true, instead of wishing to any god. Eleanore prayed to the system, the night Stella woke up and today, while she was on her way to the doctor, to let her stay a little longer.

The infirmary, as she thought, isn’t a place she likes at all. It looked so cramped, filled with various unpleasant smells of medicine, in the sickly atmosphere surrounding her.

Out of the two nurses present in the infirmary. One was busy grinding something using a heavy rock. Rolling it front and back on another bigger one.

That looks painful. She thought.

Another nurse noticed her and quickly left her sorting work, to welcome Eleanore. "Good morning, Lady Eleanore Sinclair." She pays her respects.

"Good morning. The doctor called me to pick up some medicine." She explained her reason for visiting.

"Yes. The doctor is in his research lab, busy with some experiments. He loves experimenting a lot." She laughs. "He won’t be able to leave for about a week. He left the medicine with me." She says, as she walked to the study table, where a blue sachet was kept.

The nurse picked it up and passed it to Eleanore, who didn’t look very well. "Are you not feeling well, My lady?" She asked, worried to see her unsettling expression.

"Oh, no. I am fine. I just don’t like the smell of medicines." She says.

"I see."

Eleanore started out of the infirmary with the sachet and the nurse followed her out. She closed the door behind her. "Since you don’t like it there, we can discuss the other things here." She says when Eleanore’s eyes question her moves.

A hole formed between her eyebrows as she frowned on hearing that. "Is Stella fine?" her voice layed with concern.

"Oh! Yes." The nurse laughed. "Nothing is wrong with her. Just some things she needs to do, to recover quickly."

Her muscles rest on hearing that. She sighed. "What is it?"

"The baroness needs to get out of the bed and go for short strolls, if possible. The doctor said she had rested enough and now needs to move her muscles. Also, it would be best if she doesn’t touch water for two more days. One of us will come and scrub her and then change her dressing too. Talk to her, try to make her speak. She hasn’t spoken since the moment she woke up."

One of the reasons why Eleanore could still not believe that Stella was awake now, was because she was not talking at all. They tried and failed at it, thousands of times yesterday. Nothing worked. She would blankly stare at them, with no emotions in her eyes and nothing to speak.

"Why is she not talking?" Eleanore asked, feeling dejected about it.

"It could be because of the shock or maybe because she has been asleep for three whole days. It is hard to diagnose that, since this is a physiological condition" The nurse explains. Her eyes dropped on seeing Eleanore’s gloomy face. "My lady, please don’t worry. This is normal. She will be fine." She tries to assure her, but it doesn’t work.

"I hope so."

The nurse cleared the strong clot in her throat, to continue relaying the words of her employer. "The sachet contains powder and a small spoon. You must dilute this powder in water, to make it easy for her to swallow it. Two spoons, after every three meals, Breakfast, lunch and dinner."

"I understand." Eleanore nods, before leaving the corridor that leads to the infirmary. When she entered the main hall, to ascend the stairs to the first floor, the sweet smell of roses entered her nostrils.

Her feet turned to the garden from where this smell was coming. The weather today was unusually windy, considering the winters were about to end and soon summer will take over. As she entered the rose pathway, she saw some beautiful roses swirling there with the wind.

’Would these red roses make Stella happy?’ She thought, as she reached out to the ones grown below the tall ones.

Eleanore didn’t want to pluck the ones above, as a few missing roses would take away the shine of this pathway. Thus, she bent a little down to pick the ones that were outside the bush and can be ignored. These roses are normally cut away by the gardener, but today she was way too early for that to happen.

She tied the silky rope of sachet to the satin strip of her dress and started carefully plucking out the roses, making sure to not hurt herself. But all that effort was in vain. For even after being so careful a certain someone’s entry ruined it all.

"Lady Eleanore?" A familiar voice called her out.

Eleanore pricked her finger on being called by someone she didn’t want to see at all. If she had a choice, she would not face her at all and exit from this pathway, but that would look rude and cowardly of her.

Thus, unwillingly she faced her.

With the few flowers she had already plucked, Eleanore stood up. She wanted to create a rose bouquet for Stella but now her mood had died by the mere appearance of this unwanted face.

"Lady Verbena." She straightened her back as she stared directly into her eyes.

"Good morning." Verbena bowed with a smile, unaffected by Eleanore’s unbothered stare. "I didn’t know you were so interested in gardening. Whatever it might be, you should still be using garden tools, to avoid something like that from happening." Her gaze moved to Eleanore’s palm that had started oozing out blood.
